有所思，有所感，从历史的时空中来，再回到历史的时空中去。
在介绍美国政府档案时，曾提到拥有15个宗卷的 《美国军情局有关中国报告： 1911 － 1941 年》（U.S. Military Intelligence Reports: China, 1911-1941. 15 reels）这套档案。实际上，自其1983年出品以来，就引起各方广泛关注，因为其史料价值，对于研究民国时期的历史帮助很大。许多人在做某一课题研究时，总是想办法引用这套资料，以此支持其论点。
这套档案实际上也可称之为《美国国务院驻华武官秘档》，在于其集中反映了自1911年以来到1941年间美国驻华武官及其幕僚们，在中国各地所收集和撰写的极有价值的有关中国各个方面的情报。这一时期美国驻华使团驻节北京（北伐一统后叫北平），但其武官及其下属幕僚们，却不仅仅从这里，还从南京、哈尔滨、重庆、广州等大中城市，甚至从全国各地，就中国的政治、军事、内政、外交、甚至文教卫生等各个方面，向国务院提供报告、情报文件和相关背景资料。更主要的是，这些报告或文件资料，皆来源于他们与中国政治军事领袖或不同层级的官员的晤谈、访问，对相关事件人物的观察和分析，包括执政当局以及与之抗衡之派别和势力，甚至共产党及其军队的情况以及其它列强在华活动的细节等方面的调查和整理，涵盖的范围极广。这套15卷的缩微胶卷档案，前13卷皆选自军情局所存中国档的第165号宗卷，第13和15卷则主要选自国务院所藏之从军情局收集而来的档案。
桂系是国民政府时期极具影响力的一个与蒋中正抗衡达二十多年的派系。这套资料中涉及桂系者，比较凌乱，需要耐心阅读淘找，因为每一卷的页数皆不下800－900多页，甚至上千页。在下在这里，将这15卷的缩微胶卷每卷的目录（由Paul Kesaris编辑整理）贴出，希望对研究桂系、以及研究民国在太平洋战争爆发前的这段历史的人士，有所帮助。
