Upgrading Red Hat Fedora Core 7 (F7) to Fedora 8 (F8) on Generic Linux Desktop Machine 1

On May 3, 2008, following the instructions found at

I upgraded my Linux desktop machine (described in §15.9 below) as follows:

Later on (Oct. 2008), I had to manually remove the F7 version of avahi in order for yum update to run successfully:

rpm -e --noscripts avahi-0.6.17-1.fc7
