There is no proof that this photo was published prior to 1989. Just because it was taken in 1986 does not mean it is necessarily Public Domain. A Tineye search shows this photo was earliest available online around 2014 via the website of the photographer, Lisa Haun [1]. If this was actually a promo photo or press kit photo distributed by a music/record label in the 80s, we would need to see a scan of that, showing the lack of a copyright notice. - Comment The year of the first online publication you can find of an analog image isn't that significant. I think this link is much more significant than your point about 2014, though. What's your evidence that this story, which "was originally published in the Dec. 4, 1986 issue of Rolling Stone", didn't include the photo then? If you really care deeply, maybe you should look for a microfiche copy of that issue at the nearest library, instead of trying to get it hidden here because you didn't check (I slogged through their archives but didn't find it online). The uploader provided a lot of evidence, including this link. Find the original article, and then tell us whether it included the photo in question or not. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:19, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
- As you can see in this ebay listing, [2] for the very magazine this story was originally published in - December 4th 1986, it includes a different image(s). The one up for deletion is nowhere to be seen with the story - The link provided as a source is just the original story that has been digitized for the internet, with a different photo. I'd say the Rollingstone website alone is weak proof that this photo was ever 'published' prior to 1989 & without the copyright notice or registration within 5 years. Cannot just make assumptions, have to show it- (Ex. ebay listing of magazine, or scan of magazine, archive link etc.) PascalHD (talk) 18:44, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
- Delete Now that's convincing research. Thanks, and I no longer have any reason to disagree with your point of view on this. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:15, 19 October 2023 (UTC)
