Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Carved animal head found in the Oseberg Boat grave in Vestfold Norway. This is likely a temple lion head. It might be related to Buddhist lion symbols. Within Buddhism lions were used as temple guardians, in the same way as seen in the Stave churches of the Nordic areas. Dates back to 834 CE.
