Certainly no {{PD-self}}

The flag certainly can't be licenced as {{PD-self}}, because the wikipedia user who claimed so, certainly is not the government of the Christmas Island or of Australia (at least there is no proof for that). The only PD tag which would be appropriate, is {{PD-ineligible}}. To claim that the borders of the island are public domain, as part of the earth, is fair (see the flags of Cyprus and Kosovo for comparison). And the icon of the golden bosun bird (Phaethon lepturus fulvus) on the right could with courage be interpreted as ineligible. Though, I'm sure there is is a law anywhere to state that official simbols of the administrative units of Australia are not copyrighted. It would be useful if some native english speaker could find and add a link to that law, act, regulation or whatsoever. --ThomasPusch (talk) 13:45, 29 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
