Flag colors
[edit]I know that the flag of Greece has no officiall color scheme, however the site of the Greek presidency (in Greek) states that:
- The shape and colors (cyan and white) of the national flag had been decided upon in January 1822 at the First National Congress at Epidaurus.
The same page (http://www.presidency.gr/shmaia.htm) also includes a "sample" flag of Greece, whose colors are significantly lighter than the ones used in the standard flag Wikipedia uses for Greece. I suggest that we comply with the flag used by the Greek presidency site and change the color scheme to and instead of and .
which is neither Cyan nor the very dark blue that is now used. Being Greek, I would like to add that dark blue flags are not that common within Greece and there is a general preference for lighter colors in the flag, though cyan flags are quite rare these days. Additionally, the Greek flag in Greek is called the "galanolefki", which is translated as "the light-blue-and-white (flag)". Philly boy92 (talk) 12:44, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
- In theory, you are right. In practice, however, the shade of the blue tends to be dark, even (or rather, especially) in official usage... Personally, I would agree to use a lighter shade of blue, as this is the "traditional" hue. However the question then becomes, which hue exactly? "cyan" or "light blue" can mean a whole range of different colours... If you are interested in pursuing this, you should also contact the Greek Wikipedia, and perhaps also the WikiProject Greece in the English WP and its sister projects in the other major languages. - Yes, indeed there should be more discussion as to what shade of blue shall be used, however there have been cases where a light-blue flag was used, for instance at the Athens 2004 olympic games opening ceremony (link). I just think the shade that is being used now is too dark, even compared with the flags that are officialy used and are darker than my proposal.
Anyway, I shall post about this in WikiProject Greece, thanks! Philly boy92 (talk) 16:53, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Colours
[edit]The so called presidency colors do not exist any more, the link sourcing it is dead. The darker version is significantly closer to actual versions and ones that exist in other sources. In fact, the wikipedia colors source three colors closer to the one just reverted to. Thedefenceman 18:47, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
Adding PD-US licence for original design/use of flag
[edit]{{Edit request}} G'day all, I am using this file on a FAC on en WP, and the image review has indicated it should have a PD-1923 licence for the original design of the flag. Given the flag design and its use significantly predates 1923, that shouldn't be a problem, but obviously this file is protected at present. Could someone with the power please add the PD-1923 template to the Permission field? Could you please ping me when done? Thanks, Peacemaker67 (talk) 08:57, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Peacemaker67, there is an ongoing discussion about your request here. Regards. Wikicology (talk) 13:20, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
- @ Peacemaker67: According to w:Flag of Greece#Adoption, the design of the flag was first adopted in 1822. The appropriate copyright template is {{PD-1923}} (for the US) which needs to be combined with the copyright tag for the source country. For the Greek copyright, {{PD-old-100}} can be used since it is safe to say that the flag's designer died before 1917 (95 years after the flag design was adopted), but without any firm date for the death date of the flag's designer I think the best option is to just use {{PD-GreekGov}}. To add the two copyright templates, use {{PD-two}}, so the code added to the file should be:
- {{PD-two|1=PD-GreekGov|2=PD-1923}}
- The above template should replace the PD template currently on the file, but not the template about the use of insignias. AHeneen (talk) 18:35, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
- That's looks right to me too. Peacemaker67 (talk) 00:24, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- Done This flag is 100% positively {{PD-ineligible}} --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 05:06, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for doing this. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (talk) 00:02, 23 May 2017 (UTC)

- The relevant people probably won't see your request unless you use the reques-edit-to-protected-page mechanism. However, I would oppose adding what is a highly non-official flag there... AnonMoos (talk) 01:02, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
