"Mann" spelling
[edit]@Fry1989: am unable to find any reliable sources that support this spelling of the Isle of Man. Also, am aware of the discussion and community support for the circle-centered flag, which makes this flag subject to deletion. Wasn't going to go that far, however since this flag is not considered by the community to be a flag of the Isle of Man, we can do that if that's what you want. P. I. - Your interpretation of the current dispute is incorrect. There are sources for both forms of orientation of the triskleion, but no single diffinitive source, therefore both versions are equally correct and incorrect at the same time. Since two files can not share the same name-space, of course there will be one file with an "incorrect name" as you put it. The community has not issued any unified opinion that this version "is not a flag of the Isle of Man". Fry1989 eh? 17:31, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
- Not for anything, but the consensus at File talk:Flag of the Isle of Man.svg#Request for comment certainly appears to be a valid opinion that this flag should not even be on Commons. Can you point to any discussion that is more recent and shows community consensus for this flag? I've been unable to find any conversation that supports this flag, so unless you revert and remove this flag from the categories as I did, the next step will logically be a deletion discussion. P. I. - @Fry1989: on reflection, think I'd like to refrain from offering this flag for deletion, mostly because it's used globally on so many pages. So I withdraw this request to remove it from categories; however, I continue to think that there has been no change in consensus since that linked RfC. We shall leave this to the community to decide if consensus has changed. P. I. Ellsworth, ed. put'r there 05:48, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
- I should say that you have not engendered me to having a conversation with you, when you ignore the name-space conflict, disingenuously claim there is no source for "Mann" when there actually is, and claim that files cannot be used because of their spelling (not true) as opposed to the legitimacy of what the image depicts which is what actually matters. And whilst you have retracted your threat of a deletion nomination, you've done so for the wrong reasons, claiming it is because the file is in broad use rather than because it is a legitimate alternative depiction of how the triskelion is orietated on the flag. I would suggest you find a new axe to grind somewhere else. Fry1989 eh? 14:01, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I had no axe to grind here, as I was just following the consensus at the RfC. And you have shown nothing, no new consensus, which overrides that community decision that remains in effect. Any usage of this flag should be replaced by the actual flag of the Isle of Man. If we don't do it, someone else will, because this flag is still the wrong flag. It should be redirected to the correct, circle-centered flag. P. I.
