Ways to improve Patrick Langlois

edit

Hello, FastCube,

Thanks for creating Patrick Langlois! I edit here too, under the username Girth Summit and it's nice to meet you :-)

I wanted to let you know that I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:-

I'm sure you're right about him coming on as a sub in that game, but the source doesn't actually support that - it mentions him, but just says he's yet to make his A-league debut. Can you get another source to show he appeared in that game? Cheers

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Girth Summit}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:2018–19 Y-League season by team

edit

A tag has been placed on Category:2018–19 Y-League season by team requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited James Delianov, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Macedonia (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Deletion of National Premier Leagues information for A-League reserves teams

edit

Hey mate,
I noticed you have removed NPL info for all A-League reserves teams. I was wondering if that was something you did off your own bat or was there a collaborative decision about the removal? If there was, can you please link it to me? We have had many discussions about this on the task force page before when many teams had their NPL and Y-League pages merged. The consensus at the time was to have just that – one page for all Y-League and NPL related information regarding the "A-League Reserves" team. If no such consensus was reached, I would kindly ask you revert your edits until such a time. —Thanks Eccy89 (talk) 12:06, 28 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Alex, nice to meet you. Thanks for getting involved.
I will refer you to an archived consensus on the issue from three years ago when the mergers happened. Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Australia task force/Archive 3#Discussion on "Youth" vs. "NPL" teams and their articles
It appears that Melbourne City FC popped up again after this (or was never merged). Again I would be happy to go with consensus (i.e. to split the articles into two) but it appears you just deleted well resourced information from one page and didn't actually put it elsewhere. The links you sent me are clear redirects back to the reserves page, in which case all the NPL information has been deleted. Please fix this for all clubs. e.g. Sydney FC NPL and Sydney FC Reserves are redirects to the same page. —Eccy89 (talk) 10:38, 29 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Articles moved to drafts

edit

Two articles you recently created, 2019–20 Central Coast Mariners FC season and 2019–20 Brisbane Roar FC season, do not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published, and it is likely too soon for the articles to be written, given that the season doesn't start for another 2 months. They need more citations from reliable, independent sources. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your drafts to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can develope the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the articles meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus are ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Answering talk pages

edit

Hi FastCube,

Please note that it is preferable to answer discussions on talk pages on the same talkpage they were written on, so that all the people in the conversation can see it, and anyone watching the talk page will see the change, not only one user. I have moved your answer to the appropriate page now. Just letting you know for the future. :)

Hey Alex, how are you going?
Just to let you know I have added redirects to the NPL pages you created a little while back. As per our discussions of the redundancies created - plus it looks like you have upgraded the other Reserve/Youth pages - it seemed best to keep them as redirects and not delete them. —Eccy89 (talk) 12:39, 8 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi,

Just curious as to your moving of the Central Coast Mariners Academy page. Was there a discussion about this somewhere? Scholarship players

edit

Can you give me a good reason why we are putting "scholarship" to the right of the players name in the squad template? Does it really matter if he is a scholarship player or not? What difference does it make? Simione001 (talk) 14:26, 9 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Simione001: It is not a full-senior deal and is different in the make-up of the squad and salary cap. --SuperJew (talk) 15:05, 9 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
But why do we feel the need to mention this in squad list? I just dont see why it needs to be there. All the information about the salary cap can be found on the A-League page. Simione001 (talk) 22:54, 9 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
To see what a player's status is. Why do we have captain marked? Why do we have loans marked? You look at the squad and wonder why a 18-year-old is listed in the senior squad, but then you see he's on scholarship contract. --SuperJew (talk) 09:24, 11 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

History of Adelaide United FC (2003–2005)

edit

Hi, I came across a page you created, History of Adelaide United FC (2003–2005) and I'm a little unsure on the necessity of this page. The page is shorter than the information covering the same period on the club's main article and a two-year spell in the history of a club is really too short to be having a standalone article. I'd suggest starting the History of Adelaide United FC (2005–present) page but including these years as well to make a viable article. Kosack (talk) 08:28, 4 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Even with expansion, how much information can be gathered from two years? Looking at Category:History of association football clubs in England, some clubs have their entire history, often spanning more than a century, in a single article. I think having a general History of Adelaide United FC article would be more than sufficient. Kosack (talk) 11:51, 4 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Please don't create blank categories that are uncategorised

edit

Hello. It's really important that categories are always categorised themselves, otherwise humans and maintenance bots can't find them - the hierarchy is important, they're not simple metatags. It also helps you identify existing trends in category names - for instance if you'd tried to categorise Category:2019 National Premier Leagues into Category:National Premier Leagues seasons you would have seen that Category:2019 National Premier Leagues season already existed. And just in general, be wary of WP:OVERCATEGORISATION. I know sport editors tend to over do it in general, but a good category has 30-50 members, and a WP:SMALLCAT that will never have more than a couple of members should generally be upmerged. Cheers. Four Questions post

edit

Do I have your permission to split your Four Questions post into different Sections, as they are separate topics, some of which will be continuation of discussion in Sections immediately above? This would allow for separate discussion on these Questions, which will likely have different people contributing and at different times. Matilda Maniac (talk) 23:54, 25 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Matilda Maniac: Yes. Understood. Look, what I am I supposed to do? I get bored editing older season articles to revamp them and create new player articles. That's I all I do that none of you want to revert on me. I'm creating as many articles as possible that makes sense, since there is SO MUCH more details that are missing in Australian soccer articles. When I think I made a mistake, I go back and re-edit whatever I'm editing. Like to me, I did seem like it was pointless splitting the navboxes between men and women. So I put them back together. I don't get annoyed of things that you tell me. I do understand your points, but I disagree to an extent. So something would need to be discussed.
--FastCube (talk) 01:27, 26 October 2019 (UTC)FastCubeReply
And the talk page is there for discussions :) Regarding missing details, also remember this is an online encyclopedia, and not a sports almanac or a stats website. So some things which might seem important to you (who I take are quite a diehard fan ;) ), won't be important to the casual reader. --SuperJew (talk) 18:47, 26 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
Also BTW, regarding revamping older season articles, it would be very appreciated if you could work to have them better referenced (not saying you add unreferenced information, but that the a lot of the old articles are missing references which they should have :) ) --SuperJew (talk) 18:51, 26 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
@SuperJew: I'm trying my best to do that. --FastCube (talk)FastCube
The purpose of Wikipedia is not to have editors "creating as many articles as possible that makes sense" as Wikipedia is not a statistical collection; this information itself must have notability (see WP:NOTSTATS). I suggest that you also browse through some of the history of how we got to where we are now, in terms of previous discussions and consensus reached for the Australian football/soccer pages, which do differ from the consensus those of other countries and other language Wikis (e.g. Americans counting assists, germans naming youth teams as "II', south americans collating red cards everywhere, naming conventions for surnames, [wikipedia in other langueages]). Note WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS - just because its done for EPL on Wikipedia, doesn't mean it should be replicated to the same standard or detail for the Gawler U14 Girls competition.
It is true that there are many details that are not yet captured, and some of them - deemed the most important or useful - have already been flagged at the Project Page of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Australia task force which you joined 9 days ago. There is a comprehensive to-do list, so maybe some of these you might like to contribute to, to prevent you getting "bored editing". Matilda Maniac (talk) 01:53, 27 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Template:2019 National Premier Leagues tables

edit

A tag has been placed on Template:2019 National Premier Leagues tables requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

This soccer season has already finished, and the tables referred to here are in the article 2019 National Premier Leagues as a hypertext Transclusion from multiple individual Federation Season articles (e.g. 2019 FFSA season or 2019 Football NSW season). Therefore this template should not be used even if it is completed. The transclusion format is so the tables are updated only the once in individual season articles, which automatically populate the NPL overview article, rather than having them updated twice with the same information. For this reason also, the development of a similar format for next season (2020) may be challenged once the 2020 individual Federation Season articles are created.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. I note that an editor speedily deleted this article in a very short space of time, so may not have given you sufficient time to respond. There are still avenues to challenge this if you so desire, and perhaps the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Australia task force is one of them. Can you please desist from making further changes to article names until the discussion (at this Task Force Page) has reached consensus, and then we will change all articles to the format that is decided? Matilda Maniac (talk) 12:15, 2 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}

@SportingFlyer: Excuse me?! I'm not new to Wikipedia. I know how to edit Australian soccer on Wikipedia. I joined here two years ago and started immediately on association football. Apart from that, I can definitely think on improving the article, but I'm just focused on other A-League clubs and their missing links. --FastCube (talk) 12:28, 8 November 2019 (UTC)FastCubeReply
@FastCube: Sorry - there's a backlog over at the new page review which is how I found the page, there's an automated template to help PROD the pages and that's the template it automatically places on the creator's page, it's not something I wrote myself. I admit the text should be a bit better. That being said tere's no need to have a separate history article for Western United yet, it's a clear WP:REDUNDANTFORK, the main article isn't that long yet and the information should just be included there for now. SportingFlyer T·C 12:56, 8 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
My view is also that the main article isn't that long yet and the information should just be included there for now in the main article's history section (under WP:REDUNDANTFORK and WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Matilda Maniac (talk) 01:10, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Matilda Maniac: I believe that the History of "(A-League Club)" articles, should contain all their history, but in the A-League clubs' normal articles, it should just be a summary, since the article will be as long as the normal history section.
Even if that is right, one can argue WP:TOOSOON may apply. Matilda Maniac (talk) 07:12, 9 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Adelaide United FC–Melbourne Victory FC rivalry moved to draftspace

edit

An article you recently created, Adelaide United FC–Melbourne Victory FC rivalry, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. Most of the article is unsourced. And while the two teams play one another, and there very well be a rivalry between the two, the current sourcing does not indicate a rivalry between the two, let alone a notable one. The best indication would be that the two were "fierce foes", but that does not mean they have a notable rivalry.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. I can actually agree to have this deleted. This article: List of W-League (Australia) clubs is basically the same as the clubs section in the W-League page. --FastCube (talk) 02:19, 20 December 2019 (UTC)FastCubeReply

Edits to National Soccer League

edit

I have restored some of your edits which removed the club performance information in National Soccer League article, rather than remove them to a new article (presumably List of National Soccer League clubs). This is on the basis of taking a single article and creating a fork which moves information into a much smaller side article. I do not see a reason to split the article. And in coming to this talk page, i see that there is also a deletion proposal relating to a very similar issue, which has also been described as creating an unnecessary fork.

The same logic would apply to the List of A-League clubs article, as an equivalent fork off the table in A-League#Clubs, and the recent Performance record of clubs in the W-League article as well. I see the theme of these reverts or proposed deletions is that it may be better to build and expand and strengthen existing articles, rather than split articles into smaller, linked fragments.

One of my focusses for next year is going to be information on the women's teams at the NPL level, which would probably struggle to initially be notable as stand-alone articles, but which would initially be a few paragraphs as a section within the current club articles (which are essentially 100% focussed on the men's teams). Your comments welcomed. Matilda Maniac (talk) 23:33, 19 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

For the last time, mate. I'm 'NOT' new, I've been here for two years, I'm an advanced Wikipedia editor. Besides that, I'm working on adding more citations and I've added a new map for the article to show all the clubs. Just give me time for me to make this happen. --FastCube (talk) 03:04, 20 December 2019 (UTC)FastCubeReply
@FastCube: I use Twinkle to nominate these for deletion and that's the template it uses to notify you, my apologies, it should probably be changed. Feel free to remove the PROD, but I still think it's a content fork - the only leagues I've checked that have similar pages are the English Premier League and the Bundesliga, and they have far more turnover. SportingFlyer T·C 03:11, 20 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

The article Performance record of clubs in the W-League has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Undersourced, duplicative WP:CONTENTFORK.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
