China detains and beats mourners of purged leader Zhao Ziyang
The government of China has detained several people who were mourning the passing of former communist party leader, Zhao Ziyang. Mr. Zhao was the former Communist Party secretary general who purged for opposing the 1989 military crackdown on the Tiananmen Square student movement. He died two weeks ago at age 85, having spent the last fifteen years of his life under house arrest. At least three people were beaten during the arrests today, according to reports from the AFP.
