Talk:Angelina Jolie
Add topicway to go Angelina - http://www.makebordershistory.org
On the quotes page I added a citation after the quote identifing it as belonging to Frank Herbert via his novel Dune. I think this particular quote is known as The Bene Gesserit Littainy against Fear. Did Angelina actually say this?

- Acting is not pretending or lying. It's finding a side of yourself that's the character and ignoring your other sides. And there's a side of me that wonders what's wrong with being completely honest.
- And my dad, you're a great actor but you're a better father.
- When other little girls wanted to be ballet dancers, I sort of wanted to be a vampire.
- But there are very few people who can hold me in a way, to look at them and talk to me. And make me cry, and to talk to me about my life. And also to say, get out there. I believe in you. Go, go, go. And get me to go and go to get my life together. And for me to want to come back and say, look what I did.
- I am one of those people who needs to learn to let people hug me. I also need to need other people because I do.
- I consider myself to be straightforward.
- I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
- I have been made to believe that no one could love me for me...Passion turns pain into ecstasy, you can't walk away from love.
- I love my father, but I am not him.
- I never liked being touched ever. People used to say that I held my breath when they were hugging me. I still do. But I've never liked...Everybody thought I was really sexual.
- I once smoked a lot, drank too much, suffered insomnia and like every other person I know, was unbalanced.
- I think we all want justice and equality. We all want a chance for a life with meaning. All of us would like to believe that if we were in a bad situaition someone would help us out.
- I thought I'd help other people out, but in turn, they've really done more for me. It's made me a better person. I'm not so focused on my own problems.
- I usually try to look for something I haven't done before, a side of me I haven't completely explored. There's a truth in acting, and there is a very real part of me that can understand that or believe in that or see the ugliness in that and the statment needs to be made. So it's all kind of me.
- I'd like to believe that the people that have supported me in my work or identified me in my films, the people that feel they know me, they do and they don't have misconceptions.
- I'm getting a wrinkle above my eyebrow and I love that you know.
- I'm happy being myself, which I've never been before. I always hid in other people or tried to find myself through the characters, or live out their lives, but I didn't have those things in mine.
- I'm odd looking. Sometimes I think I look like a funny muppet.
- I'm so nervous, I'm about to fall over.
- I've been reckless but I'm not a rebel without a cause.
- I've realized that being happy is a choice. You never want to rub anybody the wrong way or not be fun to be around, but you have to be happy. When I get logical and don't trust my instincts, that's when I get in trouble.
- If being sane is thinking there's something wrong with being different...I'd rather be completely fucking mental.
- If I make a fool out of myself who cares? I'm not frightened by anyone's perception of me.
- If enough people sitting around you telling you you're wonderful, then you start believing you're fabulous, then someone tells you you stink and you believe that too.
- Live everyday like it'll be your last...Because one of these days, it will be.
- Maybe I was just around a lot of people that cried, and I saw that it accomplished nothing.
- The mind wants to forget because it weighs so much on the heart and soul.
- There was a time when I really was going to give up acting... Right after Foxfire. I was trying to find characters with a certain strength and things going on, but I was always disappointed. Wallace was the first thing I did where I felt their ideas were better than mine.
- There's something about death that is comforting. The thought that you could die tomorrow frees you to appreciate life now.
- When I met Billy, I met him in an elevator... And he said "Hi." And then walked out and I walked smack into the wall actually, I really did.
- When you focus on bigger things...Bigger than you and your life, you can find peace!
- When your world falls apart or you're feeling depressed, you pick yourself up and smile so they won't worry.
- You don't have to be somebody 'cause being someone does not make you anybody anyways.
- You know, we all need to just wake up excited about life. I just want to do the job I always wanted to do ever since I was a little girl, and live in peace with family and people I love, and just be silly and collect t-shirts from gas stations and go on road trips and eat popcorn in the middle of the night and watch tv. That's all I want, you know?
- Therapy? I don't need that. The roles that I choose are my therapy.
- Because I am a bad girl, people always automatically think that I am a bad girl. Or that I carry a dark secret with me or that I'm obsessed with death. The truth is that I am probably the least morbid person one can meet. If I think more about death than some other people, it is probably because I love life more than they do.
- You're young, you're drunk, you're in bed, you have knives; shit happens.
- And my dad, you're a great actor but you're a better father.
- [On if she ever caught her husband Billy Bob Thornton cheating] I've told Billy if I ever caught him cheating, I wouldn't kill him because I love his children and they need a dad. But I would beat him up. I know where all of his sports injuries are. And I'd beat her, too!
- I'll make it real simple, I'm a 36-C. In the game, she's a double-D. In the movie [Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)] she's a D. We split the difference . . . [Lara] is much more athletic, and she has smaller breasts, but she's still Lara Croft, so there.
- I seem to be getting a lot of things pushed my way that are strong women. It's like people see Hackers (1995) and they send me offers to play tough women with guns, the kind who wear no bra and a little tank top. I'd like to play strong women who are also very feminine.
- I'd like to believe that the people that have supported me in my work or identified with me in films, the people that feel they know me, they do and they don't have misconceptions - they understand. I believe that.
- [on her split from husband Billy Bob Thornton] I'm angry. I'm sad. It's a very difficult and sad time. It was a real deep connection, a deep marriage, so it's not that simple to say this or that one thing caused the problems. It's clear to me that our priorities shifted overnight. He's focused on his music and career. I'm focused on my baby. It comes down to what's important to you.
- [People Magazine 8 July 1996] There's something about death that is comforting. The thought that you could die tomorrow frees you to appreciate life now.
- [on playing Olympias in Alexander (2004)] I felt that if I lived at that time, with the dangers she had and the threats she had and the lack of power she had as a woman, I would not have been that different from her. And I thought I also just saw her as a mother who really would push her son at a time that if he didn't get the throne, he didn't acquire a certain kind of strength and ability and greatness, he would probably just die or be killed or be exiled. So out of concern, out of love for your own, just to come from this place that seems very much like the horrible mafia father, but in fact it was for his own survival that she was focused on, which made it very easy for me to focus on thinking of my own son and what he had to do to protect himself from bad things that could hurt him.
If you don't get out of the box you've been raised in, you won't understand how much bigger the world is.
- [on the superficiality of the industry] We are setting an example of what we think is beautiful and you really want to put that much make up on me?
- You might never find out that you are useful for all the right reasons - and not all those stupid things that people tell you you're useful for.
- [(CNN International Edition 29th January, 2005)] My role as goodwill ambassador has made my work as a film star relatively dull. I can't find anything that interests me enough to go back to work. I'm simply not excited about anything. I'm not excited about going to a film set.
- [on what she does with the money she makes each year] Save one-third, live on one-third and give away one-third.
- If I make a fool of myself, who cares? I'm not frightened by anyone's perception of me.
- If I think more about death than some other people, it is probably because I love life more than they do.
- Love one person, take care of them until you die. You know, raise kids. Have a good life. Be a good friend. And try to be completely who you are. And figure out what you personally love. And like go after it with everything you've got no matter how much it takes.
- [Regarding the possibility of marriage with her current beau and father of her child, Brad Pitt] We have both been married before so it's not marriage that necessarily kept some people together.
- [2002] I'm drawn to kids that are already born. I think some people are meant to do certain things, and I believe I'm meant to find my children in the world somewhere and not necessarily have them genetically.
- [interview with Ann Curry] I'm in a strange, I suppose, place in my life. I think that happens when you lose a parent, where you drop into a different kind of serious. And yet, at the same time, you want to laugh and enjoy as much as possible every day. I'm hanging on to my family really tight at this moment, and, because of that, trying to be as good a woman as I can be in my life. Dammit, you got me crying.
- It's alright. It's a part of life . . . I lost my mom. It's a natural thing for a child to lose a parent. I lost my mom too young, but it happened. And I'm happy she's out of pain, because I love her and she's my friend.
- Not many people know this about me but I'm a natural blonde. My hair went from light blonde naturally to a darker kind of blonde. My mother dyed my hair dark when I was a child as I loved the look then. So I'm basically a natural blonde.
- [on making action movies] I think there's always going to be that side of me. [Harrison Ford] is doing it, and he's doing it well, (so) it looks like I've got some more time.
- All women do have a different sense of sexuality, or sense of fun, or sense of like what's sexy or cool or tough.
- And my dad, you're a great actor but you're a better father.
- Everyone got kind of crazy with me mentioning I was in love with a woman.
- Honestly, I like everything, boyish girls, girlish boys, the heavy and the skinny.
- I always play women I would date.
- I am odd-looking. I sometimes think I look like a funny Muppet.
- I didn't really want to live, so anything that was an investment in time made me angry... but also I just felt sad. When the hopelessness is hurting you, it's the fixtures and fittings that finish you off.
- I do have tatoos, and I do wear leather, but there are other sides of me, that my film express.
- I don't believe in guilt, I believe in living on impulse as long as you never intentionally hurt another person, and don't judge people in your life. I think you should live completely free.
- I don't see myself as beautiful, because I can see a lot of flaws. People have really odd opinions. They tell me I'm skinny, as if that's supposed to make me happy.
- I don't think the money people in Hollywood have ever thought I was normal, but I am dedicated to my work and that's what counts.
- I like everything. Boyish girls, girlish boys, the heavy and the skinny. Which is a problem when I'm walking down the street.
- I like someone who is a little crazy but coming from a good place. I think scars are sexy because it means you made a mistake that led to a mess.
- I like to hide behind the characters I play. Despite the public perception, I am a very private person who has a hard time with the fame thing.
- I love to put on lotion. Sometimes I'll watch TV and go into a lotion trance for an hour. I try to find brands that don't taste bad in case anyone wants to taste me.
- I need more sex, OK? Before I die I wanna taste everyone in the world.
- I never felt settled or calm. You can't really commit to life when you feel that.
- I never like being touched, ever. People used to say I held my breath when they were hugging me. I still do.
- I seem to be getting a lot of things pushed my way that are strong women. It's like people see Hackers and they send me offers to play tough women with guns, the kind who wear no bra and a little tank top. I'd like to play strong women who are also very feminine.
- I think all women go through periods where we hate this about ourselves, we don't like that. It's great to get to a place where you dismiss anything you're worried about. I find flaws attractive. I find scars attractive.
- I'd go from film to film and almost detach from one world and jump in another. I was living as these people and not having a self. I didn't know who I was. And things just get really dark.
- I'd like to believe that the people that have supported me in my work or identified with me in films, the people that feel they know me, they do and they don't have misconceptions - they understand. I believe that.
- I'm getting a wrinkle above my eyebrow because I just can't stop lifting it, and I love that you know.
- I'm happy being myself, which I've never been before. I always hid in other people, or tried to find myself through the characters, or live out their lives, but I didn't have those things in mine.
- I'm odd looking. Sometimes I think I look like a funny muppet.
- I've been reckless, but I'm not a rebel without a cause.
- I've realized that being happy is a choice. You never want to rub anybody the wrong way or not be fun to be around, but you have to be happy. When I get logical and I don't trust my instincts - Thats when I get in trouble.
- I've told Billy if I ever caught him cheating, I wouldn't kill him because I love his children and they need a dad. But I would beat him up. I know where all of his sports injuries are.
- If I didn't have my films as an outlet for all the different sides of me, I would probably be locked up.
- If I make a fool of myself, who cares? I'm not frightened by anyone's perception of me.
- If I think more about death than some other people, it is probably because I love life more than they do.
- If you ask people what they've always wanted to do, most people haven't done it. That breaks my heart.
- If you have enough people sitting around telling you you're wonderful, then you start believing you're fabulous, then someone tells you you stink and you believe that too!
- Oh, God, I struggle with low self-esteem all the time! I think everyone does. I have so much wrong with me, it's unbelievable!
- Sometimes I think my husband is so amazing that I don't know why he's with me. I don't know whether I'm good enough. But if I make him happy, then I'm everything I want to be.
- The fact is I am not having sex. But I feel absolutely ripe for the, what would you say? plucking?
- The truth is I love being alive. And I love feeling free. So if I can't have those things then I feel like a caged animal and I'd rather not be in a cage. I'd rather be dead. And it's real simple. And I think it's not that uncommon.
- Therapy? I don't need that. The roles that I choose are my therapy.
- There's something about death that is comforting. The thought that you could die tomorrow frees you to appreciate your life now.
- They're right to think that about me, because I'm the person most likely to sleep with my female fans, I genuinely love other women. And I think they know that.
- We come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.
- What nourishes me also destroys me.
- When I get logical, and I don't trust my instincts - that's when I get in trouble.
- When other little girls wanted to be ballet dancers I kind of wanted to be a vampire.
- Where ever I am I always find myself looking out the window wishing I was somewhere else.
- Without pain, there would be no suffering, without suffering we would never learn from over mistakes. To make it right, pain and suffering is the key to all windows, without it, there is no way of life.

Quote source gone, new ones found.
The CNN source for this quote is gone into internet oblivion:
"I was horrified by the attacks against her, [but] Madonna knew the situation in Malawi, where he was born. In that country, there isn't really a legal framework for adopting. Personally, I prefer to stay on the side of the law."
With some searching, I found two others to replace it. I think these are reliable sources, but if not, pay them no mind. Since I have never added sources before, perhaps someone with experience can add one or both?
