Nearly 2 months after Aug 20 stabbing incident, offline classes resume in full at private school

With an overall attendance of 70 per cent and amid strict security, a private school in Maninagar resumed offline classes in full on Friday, more than a month and half after the school was closed following a stabbing incident that led to a student’s death.

Classes I to V resumed with an attendance of 60 per cent, the school authorities said on Friday.

After teaching-related work started in Classes X and XII last week, teaching work started in Classes IX and XII as well as classes 6 and 8 respectively from Monday to Wednesday. Teaching finally started in Classes I to V on Friday with an overall 70 per cent students out of a total of 10,267 enrollment from Classes I to XII.

A student of the school allegedly stabbed his classmate to death outside the school on August 19. After large-scale protests by parents erupted on the campus the following day, the school was shut by the District Education Officer (DEO).

The school administration said on Friday that all necessary security arrangements were now in place, as per the directions of the DEO’s office.

On Thursday, Classes VI and VIII were resumed. On Tuesday, entire offline secondary classes with an overall attendance of 75 per cent resumed at the private school.

On October 5, offline education for Class X and XII was resumed after permission from the District Education Officer and amid heavy police deployment around the campus and a strengthened CCTV coverage of the school campus.

Regular classes were suspended after major protests by parents though later on parents’ demand the school started online classes for Classes X and XII.

Thus, with the primary classes the entire school has resumed its offline classes at the school, with an enrollment of nearly 9,500, run in ICSE and Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB).
