Actor and former cricketer Yograj Singh said that it took him over two years to first meet his grandson, Orion, because his schedule wasn’t aligning with that of his son, Yuvraj Singh. In an interview, the always controversial Yograj said that Yuvraj’s wife, actor Hazel Keech, told him that Orion was a reincarnation of his father. He also revealed that one of the reasons why he doesn’t get along with Yuvraj and his family is that they know they cannot let Orion and his sister, Aura, be with him. In the interview, Yograj said that Yuvraj knows that if he hands his children over to him, there can be no avoiding the treatment that he was given as a child.

Yograj admitted in an interview with SMTV that he was driven by vengeance when he decided to turn Yuvraj into the world’s best cricket player, because he felt that he had been unfairly ignored in his own career. This caused rifts between him and his family, with many of them accusing him of abusing Yuvraj and threatening to call the police on him. Yograj said that his own mother, on her death bed, begged him to spare Yuvraj or he would die. But he didn’t pay heed to anybody’s warnings, and Yuvraj went on to become a World Cup winner, which Yograj viewed as validation for his actions.

Asked if it was all even worth it considering he doesn’t have Yuvraj in his life now, Yograj said, “I found ‘moksha’ and my God. I have never been upset. I am deeply satisfied.” He was asked if he really doesn’t feel like hugging his grandchildren, and he said, “I met my grandson for the first time when he was already over two years old. Yuvi told me that he doesn’t speak a word of Punjabi, and in two seconds, I had him calling me, ‘Bapu’. Even now, when we speak on the phone, he calls me ‘Bapu’. The doctors had said that they couldn’t have children, but they had Orion and then another child.”

Yograj said that Hazel told him that Orion is a reincarnation of his father, whom he lost when he was very young. “Yuvi and Hazel both say, ‘Granddad and grandmom are here’. It took me over two years to meet Orion, but never once in those two years did I feel… I would pray to God and tell Him, ‘They are also your grandchildren; if You meet them, I shall consider that I have met them too’.” Yograj added, “Yes, but the day Yuvi hands his children over to me, they will meet the same fate as he did. You can only forge gold through fire. There will be no mercy, because there is only one path… That’s what they fear, and that’s why we aren’t together.”

In another interview, Yograj said that he dreams of having his entire family together, the two mothers of his four children, but that this isn’t possible because of what he has done and the path he has chosen. In an appearance on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, Yuvraj said that he wouldn’t want his son to become a cricketer because of what he went through. “I just hope that he doesn’t get after Orion. He keeps saying that I should put him in cricket, but I tell him, ‘Isko apni life jeene do (Let him live his life.)’ It’s because he was always a coach to me, and never a father. I don’t want that to happen with my son, I want to be father to him.”
