Stipend applications will be reviewed by the Program Committee and recipients selected based on merit and need.
We are accepting proposals for content in a variety of formats and especially encourage proposals (conference or pre-conference) from participants from groups and regions that are traditionally underrepresented in conferences related to linked data in libraries and other cultural heritage organizations, as well as proposals from early career professionals. Please see the full Call for Proposals<https://sites.google.com/stanford.edu/ld42020/call-for-proposals> for additional details.
The Program Committee will select proposals and contact all applicants by February 21st. For those interested in attending without proposing a session, a separate call for participation will be announced in late February.

LD4 Conference on Linked Data in Libraries: May 13-14, 2020
Preconference workshops: May 12, 2020
Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA
Registration starts: Wednesday, March 4
Stipend application deadline: Sunday, March 15
Registration deadline: Friday, April 17
We're excited to announce that registration for the 2020 LD4 Conference will open on Wednesday, March 4th. Join us May 13-14 at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, USA to learn concrete ways that linked data benefits GLAM institutions, and discover pathways to participation in linked data. Please visit the conference web site (ld4.io)<http://ld4.io> for more details. Wikimedians are most warmly welcome to attend and participate in this conference!
Whether you have already implemented linked data in your work or are just getting started, you will leave with a better understanding of what linked data is, how it can be used, and what you can do to get started or continue to incorporate linked data in your institutions or projects. By bringing together a broad range of perspectives, and centering diversity, equity, inclusion, and ethics in our discussions, we will create a community of practice for linked data in libraries.
We are delighted to have Karen Hwang as our conference kick-off speaker. Karen's practice as a metadata professional and archivist is rooted in concerns of discoverability and representation. She works to promote underrepresented histories through digital collections, and has explored ways to implement linked open data to enhance and boost the discovery of cultural heritage resources. Other program highlights include, "Workshopping Queeries: Linked Data Vocabularies and Ethical Cataloging," "Where Linked Data Can Impact User Experience: Findings from a Study on Discovery Workflows," "'I don't think I'll ever understand linked data': How to Teach Linked Data to Our Colleagues," and "Linking bilingual bibliographic data: a Wikidata-based project of Chinese writers' archival collections."
A $100 registration fee will help to cover conference expenses and will include food and beverages during morning and afternoon breaks as well as a lunch buffet for both conference days, May 13th and 14th. There will not be an additional registration fee for pre-conference workshops on March 12th. Thanks to the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, a limited number of stipends<https://sites.google.com/stanford.edu/ld42020/stipends> will be available to make participation possible for those who would not otherwise be able to attend.
We hope that you'll join us! Please visit conference web site (ld4.io)<http://ld4.io> for more information. We'll send out another message on Wednesday when registration opens.

Hello everyone,
In Punjab, India, we have been working on GLAM Wiki Project with government
institutions of Punjab along with our community, a partnership we have
maintained over the last year with numerous meetings with the officials.
This year, like last year, we are putting a project grant proposed by Open
Heritage Foundation in 2020 round. We have successfully completed the 2019
project and are now moving forward with the second phase of the project
which has now grown in scale with a non profit that we have built and grown
over the past year.
Open Heritage Foundation is a non-profit based in India that works on
focussed GLAM initiatives in alignment with Wikimedia's strategic direction.
This project is a Glam wiki project centered around Community growth
supported by the GLAM partnerships for content generation, Integration with
Community engagement around Wikisource and Wikidata, Wikipedia integration
via the new tools we are creating in this project grant and the last and
one of the crucial elements of the project is improving and expanding the
readership scale for Wikisource project.
We will also be supporting other Communities via our micro grants and skill
sharing knowledge pool that we have collected and grown over the years.
We lack adequate sources for citations for curating local encyclopedia
content. To improve that, we need projects like these to generate that data
so we can document our local knowledge with adequate sources to support
that work, similar to the oral wiki project idea that talks about covering
the indigenous knowledge sources with non traditional sources of
information and knowledge creation.
Please feel free to ask any questions if you want to understand more about
the project or have any questions for more clarification.
We look forward to your feedback, advice and suggestions for improvement in
the proposal. We also welcome you to join us as Advisors and collaborators
to work together for the success of the project.
Regards,
>From behalf of Open Heritage Foundation

Hi,
I am Nkem Osuigwe. I work with AfLIA (African Library and Information
Associations and Institutions). We recently signed a Memorandum of
Understanding with The Wikimedia Library for training and to get more
Librarians understand the value and importance of Wikipedia as a resource
for information dissemination and research in Africa. One of the terms of
agreement in the MoU is having a progressive course on Wikipedia standards
and processes for Librarians. We have been advised to write a grant
proposal for a Wikipedian in Residence who will help adapt the already
existing curriculum and materials to suit the African information
environment and library ecosystem. The curriculum and materials were
developed by OCLC for an American audience. I came across this Discussion
list as I was researching to understand more about how the Resource has
been used by libraries.
Now, I saw in writing for the grant proposal that I need to have informed
Wikipedia Communities. Please can I get guidance on the Wikipedia
communities that I need to inform that AfLIA is writing for a Wikipedia
project grant to support the hiring of a Wikipedian in Residence?
Also, I strongly believe that we will need ideas and tips from this
Community to help AfLIA run the training course successfully.
You may read up about AfLIA -web.aflia.net
We have members(Institutional) in 33 countries in Africa and we hope to
leverage on it to increase the reach and use of Wikipedia.
I look forward to hearing from anyone here.
Thank you!
