This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure. Minimum voting requirement are listed here.

Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewards^connect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this page

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

2. Fill in the values:

domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case this is for multiple users, leave this field blank and give a list of these users in your remarks.
discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser]]"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

Hello @EPIC I hope you may checked my status and activities. As you may known that Tai Nuea language is the same language family of ours, Kra–Dai. As for that I can help tdd Wikipedia such as creating Templates, Modules and MediaWiki files those are essentially needed by tdd. If you assume I am not enough to help them let it be. I don't see any issues with granting the flags since you hold A/IA elsewhere, I only asked if you had proficiency in the language since there were no supports and you had 42 edits on the project (we have declined some similar requests in the past). It may be OK to grant temporary rights, but:

An editor who actually knows the language should at least reply in the discussion.
An editor who actually knows the language should be encouraged to become an administrator. Maybe @DaiMengMaoLong or @Yang Yan Ao Thuan.

Hello, did you guys take a look some articles in tdd? Tdd doesn't even has commons files (*.js, *.css) on it. There are alot of interface issues. Who will fix it? @Superpes15 as a professional and practicing librarian I believe I have the minimum experience required for the task. On the tasks I intend to perform, they are; 1. help improve on the Luganda language that is used on Luganda wikipedia to help ease editing and article creation (Luganda is a very vast and huge language but I found that most of the words used on the key features is very advanced that even a native who hasn't taken interest in studying the language can fail to understand what the words mean. I thus believe it's high time we changed such documentation to a more simpler and easily understandable Luganda) 2. We also face a challenge of templates much as they're several templates on the English wikipedia, the Luganda wiki lacks most of those . This in return has affected the quality of the articles on Luganda wikipedia. 3. There exists a number of auto translated articles that need to be improved but there are those that also need deletion completely. 4. The other issue is about our main page. The Luganda wikipedia currently has over 3300 articles but only a few (old) articles appear on the main page as feature articles day in day out. At times they don't even resonate with the current stories that people search about. I launched an election on December 11 on smnwiki so we could decide if we want her to have these rights again since we now have a backlog of stuff that needs to be done because of the previous rights expiring. Bureaucrat access

In principle, requests for temporary bureaucrat access are not granted.
A small project does not need bureaucrats. Currently whether a promotion is valid or not is decided by stewards. See here for a guideline.

CheckUser access

See CheckUser policy for information about this user group and the policy governing the use of this tool.

To request CheckUser information, see Steward requests/Checkuser. This is the place to request CheckUser access.
One-time CheckUser access is not permitted and temporary access is only used by Stewards or when the mandate of the CUs has an expiry date specified in local policies.

Stewards: Before granting this permission to a user, please check the current policy and make sure that the user has signed the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. An email template is available for requesting new users to identify.

When a new user is assigned to this group, please add them to this list. Subscription to checkuser-l will be handled by list owners. Make sure new users contact an op for access to #wikimedia-privacy^connect and #wikimedia-checkuser^connect.

To request to have content oversighted, ask for a steward in #wikimedia-stewards^connect and contact a steward privately. This section is for requesting access to the Oversight tool.

Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and temporary status is only used by Stewards .

Removal of access

If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.

To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, provide a link to the discussion, with a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.

To request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity, link to your local inactivity policy. If your site does not have inactivity policy, the global policy Admin activity review applies.

The suppressredirect right is not included in any local right on rowiki, except bot and sysop. Also, even if the sysop flag is removed, would the abuse filter editor right also be affected (which cannot be removed by any local user and therefore also requires a steward)? @Andrei Stroe: Pinging a different local administrator/former bureaucrat for a second opinion. w:ro:WP:FM says that any administrator can be an abuse filter editor, but for other users a discussion is needed. I don't have a strong opinion on the subject, I believe the right won't be abused if kept. Strainu (talk) 15:16, 25 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

When policy wording is vague, which in this case "special actions" is, the benefit goes to the user in assumptions that are made. This is a decline for me. For sysop rights the policy wording is not vague, it explicitly asks for adminstats to be used:

What are "special actions"? How are they defined in policy? Yes it has the link after it, but even reading through the original discussion, I don't think anyone argued for any specific right to not be included. The language used is inclusive by not spelling them out. Since this has global precedent, and there is not local policy excluding it, I'm going to mark this as Not done.
