An unforgettable suspense novel that combines the storytelling talents of Academy Award-winning actor Reese Witherspoon and internationally bestselling author Harlan Coben. Gone Before Goodbye is the story of a woman trapped in a deadly conspiracy—where uncovering the truth could cost her everything.

Maggie McCabe is teetering on the brink. A highly skilled and renowned Army combat surgeon, she has always lived life at the edge, where she could make the most impact. And it was all going to plan...until it wasn’t.

Upside down after a devastating series of tragedies leads to her medical license being revoked, Maggie has lost her purpose, but not her nerve or her passion. At her lowest point, she is thrown a lifeline by a former colleague, an elite plastic surgeon whose anonymous clientele demand the best care money can buy, as well as absolute discretion.

Halfway across the globe, sequestered in the lap of luxury and cutting-edge technology, one of the world’s most mysterious men requires unconventional medical assistance. Desperate, and one of the few surgeons in the world skilled enough to take this job, Maggie enters his realm of unspeakable opulence and fulfills her end of the agreement. But when the patient suddenly disappears while still under her care, Maggie must become a fugitive herself—or she will be the next one who is...

It’s a good book, interesting and engaging overall. I couldn’t quite tell which parts were written by Harlan Coben and which by Reese Witherspoon, but the tone definitely felt different from Coben’s usual thrillers. The pacing was much slower than his typical edge-of-your-seat stories that I just can’t stop listening to.

This one had a lot more focus on Maggie’s inner thoughts and emotions, something I often notice more in books by female authors, though I’m not sure if that’s the case here. I still enjoyed it, but it was the kind of audiobook I could pause and come back to easily. It didn’t have that “painful to stop” momentum Coben’s solo novels usually have.

It’s a good book, interesting and engaging overall.

“Book and Narration of the Year.” Witherspoon’s narration & collaboration and Coben’s writing is superb. I hope they do another one together.

I loved the characters especially Porkchop and Maggie. The storyline was so intriguing and kept my mind working on figuring out what happened to Mark and Trace and why!

The details!! I could almost feel, see, hear or taste whatever the author was detailing.

I finished it quickly, it was that good. Suspense and great character development with a twist at the end. Enjoy.

Good Listen

I enjoyed the anticipated Coben twists and turns, and I love love loved the little easter eggs from the Bolitar world. I will say that there seemed be a copious use of metaphor and simile,.. to distraction at times that I don't recall being present in most of his other work, but really if that is my biggest complaint, then I don't have much of one!

I should preface this by saying that I ADORE Reese Witherspoon as an actress. ADORE. However she did a lot of first time audio book narration missteps that were distracting, often. Though I hope she will hone her skills for narration on the (hopefully) next offering between these two!

A great first offering from this combo of writers

I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy this one as much as I did. I thought it was going to be all hype because of Reese Witherspoon’s name on it, but it turned out to be a strong, well-paced thriller that kept me invested from start to finish. The storyline around organ harvesting and medical ethics was surprisingly gripping and gave the book real depth.

As for the audiobook, I adore Reese, but her narration leaned a little too heavy on performance. It sometimes felt more like she was acting out the scenes than narrating them, which pulled me out of the story here and there. Still, it didn’t ruin the experience—the plot and pacing more than made up for it.

Overall, a great listen and an even better story, even if i totally didn’t love the ending. I can already see this being turned into an incredible mini series.

Strong Story, Overacted Narration.

Nothing to dislike. The story was top notch. Well written and engaging. The performance by the readers was just as good. I hope to see and hear more from Ms. Witherspoon.

Wonderful story and so well read

Wow, just wow. Caught my attention and held it to the very last sentence. Not sure how the collaboration between Witherspoon and Coben worked or why the publisher decided to use so many voices in the narration, but it was impressive from start to finish. Another one please.

Incredible
