Last supermoon of the year lights up the East

People have witnessed the last supermoon of the year as it illuminated the sky on Thursday.
The Cold Moon was the third consecutive supermoon after October's Harvest Moon and the Beaver Moon in November.
There had been fears cloudy skies would obscure the phenomenon, but the weather cleared in many part of the East of England leaving the skies lit up by the large full moon.
BBC Weather Watchers have been sharing their photos of the sight.

The Cold Moon was all that could be seen in the sky across Corby in Northamptonshire

The moon was still visible hanging above the trees just before sunrise in Harpenden, Hertfordshire

Wendy Windblows took an atmospheric shot of the Cold Moon in Cambridge

The Cold Moon took on a yellow hue against a violet and pink sky during sunrise in Southend-on-Sea, Essex

In Westley Waterless, east Cambridgeshire, the sky was clear allowing for some close-up snaps

The silvery moon could be seen shining down in Somerton, Norfolk, even from behind the trees

Fortunately not all chimneys are nearly the size of the moon as this shot from Ravenswood in Ipswich, Suffolk, suggests.

Even in cloudier conditions, such as in Shotley, Suffolk, people were treated to fabulous views of the year's last supermoon
