Top Sabres News

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Suffers injury Monday

Lyon suffered a lower-body injury in Monday's 4-2 win over St. Louis, according to Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News on Tuesday.

Lyon didn't participate in Tuesday's practice, and it's unclear if he will be available for Wednesday's road matchup against Dallas. He has won his last seven outings while allowing only 15 goals on 185 shots. If Lyon misses game action, Colten Ellis (concussion) could come off injured reserve to push Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen for playing time.

  • Sabres' Beck Malenstyn: Sets up empty-netter

Malenstyn registered an assist, five hits and two blocked shots in Monday's 4-2 win over the Blues.

Malenstyn had failed to record a point over the first 12 games of December, posting 45 hits, 18 PIM and 12 blocked shots in that span. The 27-year-old forward has played almost exclusively on the fourth line this season, though the Sabres' nine-game winning streak has seen the team take strides on offense. Malenstyn is unlikely to ever be a big scorer -- he's at six points with 39 shots, 130 hits, 41 blocks and 20 PIM through 37 contests this season.

  • Sabres' Mattias Samuelsson: Distributes assist Monday

Samuelsson recorded an assist, two shots on net and two blocks in Monday's 4-2 win over the Blues.

Samuelsson distributed the lone helper on Alex Tuch's game-tying goal in the second period. With the apple, Samuelsson is up to 13 assists, 19 points, 50 shots on net, 53 hits and 76 blocks through 36 appearances this season. Not only has the 25-year-old defenseman already posted five more points than his previous career high, but he's surged during the Sabres' nine-game win streak with seven points, a plus-eight rating, eight shots on net, 16 hits and 19 blocks. The second-round selection from the 2018 NHL Entry Draft is blooming into a two-way defenseman who offers an above-average bundle of defensive stats. He should continue to draw a large number of minutes in Buffalo's top defensive pair, giving him all the tools to maintain good value across all fantasy formats this season.

  • Sabres' Peyton Krebs: Tallies empty-net goal

Krebs scored an empty-net goal and recorded two shots on net in Monday's 4-2 win over St. Louis.

Krebs placed the bow on top of the Sabres' ninth consecutive win, as he found the back of the Blues' empty net to put Buffalo up by two goals. With the twine finder, he is up to three goals, 14 points, 45 shots on net, 92 hits and 22 blocks through 38 games this season. After dishing out 10 helpers but failing to find the back of the net himself across his first 34 games, the 24-year-old forward has three goals over his last four outings. His contributions offensively from the Sabres' top line have helped ease the goal-scoring burden on Tage Thompson's shoulders. Despite Krebs lack of a role on the power play, he still has fantastic streaming value in fantasy with six points and 16 hits over the team's last seven games.

  • Sabres' Zach Benson: Lights the lamp in win

Benson tallied a goal and fired five shots on net in Monday's 4-2 win over St. Louis.

Benson notched the go-ahead goal in Monday's contest just under two minutes into the final period. With his game-winning score, the 20-year-old winger is up to four goals, 17 points and 48 shots on net through 25 appearances this season. After going 17 games without scoring a goal, he has four over his last eight games, which has been one of the best totals during the team's nine-game win streak. While he sat out the majority of November due to a lower-body injury, his high level of play lately is helping salvage his chance to set a new career high in points. With over half the season to go, he is just 13 points away from tying the 30 points he had in 71 regular-season games during his 2023-24 rookie campaign. Benson offers strong streaming value in fantasy with his contributions at the heart of Buffalo's recent success.

  • Sabres' Alex Tuch: Finds twine Monday

Tuch recorded a goal, two shots and two blocks in Monday's 4-2 win over the Blues.

Tuch helped turn the tide in Monday's game, as he scored the first of three consecutive Buffalo goals across the final 25 minutes. He now has 12 goals on the season to go along with 31 points, 94 shots on net, 39 hits and 43 blocks across 37 games this year. During the team's nine-game winning streak, he has been an all-around contributor with three goals, seven points, 26 shots on net, 11 hits and 14 blocks. Defensively, he is tied for third in the league for blocks among forwards over the last nine games, and his season total of 43 ranks sixth across all forwards. Tuch's utility on offense hasn't wavered either, as he remains on track for his third regular season in the last four years with 60-plus points. His two-way value in fantasy makes him a strong option in all league formats.

  • Sabres' Noah Ostlund: Grabs opening goal Monday

Ostlund scored a goal and fired a shot on net in Monday's 4-2 win over St. Louis.

Ostlund sparked the Sabres' offense Monday when he scored just over two minutes into regulation. With the opening twine finder, he has seven goals, 10 points and 31 shots on net through 27 appearances this season. The 21-year-old center's brief stint with AHL Rochester midway through December has paid dividends for him, as he has scored four goals in seven games since his return to the NHL. Ostlund is one of many young players in the Sabres' lineup who have stepped up their game during the team's nine-game win streak, as he has added a plus-five rating, 11 shots on net and two blocks to the cause in addition to his goals. The rookie is a solid streaming option in fantasy while the Sabres' offense is firing on all cylinders. He also has value as a stash in deep leagues throughout the rest of the season if he can sustain his middle-six role at the NHL level.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Win streak up to seven

Lyon stopped 16 of 18 shots on goal in Monday's 4-2 win over the Blues.

Outside of a tough first period where he allowed two goals, Lyon shut down the Blues to help guide the Sabres to their ninth consecutive win. With Monday's victory, he is up to a 10-6-3 record with a .906 save percentage and a 2.82 GAA through 21 appearances this season. The 33-year-old netminder has been a large part of the Sabres' recent success and used Monday's victory to raise his own win streak to seven straight appearances. A very small list of goalies are currently playing better than Lyon, who has a .919 save percentage and a 2.22 GAA during the team's win streak. He is a top waiver-wire add in all fantasy formats, and his next chance to take the ice is Wednesday in Dallas.

Kozak (upper body) won't play against St. Louis on Monday, Lou Korac of The Hockey News reports.

Kozak was a full participant in Sunday's practice, but he will miss his fifth straight game. He has contributed two goals, four points, 19 shots on net, 23 blocked shots and 62 hits in 24 outings this season.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Set to face St. Louis

Lyon is up to a 9-6-3 record, 2.87 GAA and .907 save percentage in 20 appearances this season. The Blues rank last in goals per game with 2.51, so this is a favorable matchup for Lyon.

  • Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin: Slated to play Monday

Dahlin (personal) is expected to play Monday in St. Louis, per Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News.

Dahlin rejoined the Sabres for the monring skate. Based on the practice lines, Dahlin should serve on the top pairing alongside Mattias Samuelsson on Monday. Jacob Bryson will likely be a healthy scratch. Dahlin has four goals, 28 points, 37 PIM, 27 hits and 41 blocks in 33 outings this season.

  • Sabres' Stiven Sardarian: Three points in Michigan Tech win

Sardarian scored a goal and added two assists in Michigan Tech's 5-2 win over Miami University on Sunday.

Sunday's performance gives him nine goals and 20 helpers through 19 appearances, putting him two goals and six points shy of matching his 35-game total from last year. The Sabres prospect has been a standout for the Huskies for a second year in a row as he looks to wrap up his NCAA career on a high note.

The 26-year-old center's tally Saturday tied the game at 1-1 early in the second period, the first of three Buffalo goals in a span of 6:15 in that frame. • Sabres' Isak Rosen: Loaned to AHL

Rosen has been loaned to AHL Rochester by the Sabres, the team announced Sunday.
