Fijian rugby sensation and La Rochelle flanker Levani Botia continue to defy time and rugby conventions with another man-of-the-match performance in their narrow 25-24 defeat to Leinster over the weekend.
Botia finished the game with an impressive 13 tackles, securing three crucial turnovers and gaining 84 metres from carries and beating four defenders in a monumental effort by the openside flanker.
In the post-match interview, Botia credited the atmosphere at the Aviva Stadium for bringing out the best in both teams, providing the fans with a memorable contest.
“I thank Leinster for giving us a good game tonight. It was an awesome atmosphere and a really great place to play rugby – it’s amazing,” he said.
The match was also special for La Rochelle coach Ronan O’Gara, who hails from the province.
The former Munster and Ireland player has led both his club and international teams to many famous victories at the Aviva Stadium.
Despite the loss, Botia is confident O’Gara will be proud of their efforts in the match.
He concluded the interview by giving credit to the Almighty for his rugby talent and to everyone around him for their support in helping him become the player he is today.
“I want to thank the Almighty for giving me the strength, as well as the boys who support me all the time and the coaches for giving me the opportunity to show my skills,” said Botia.
