- Just a normal night at the police station for rookie Christine Paley (Lea Thompson). This is a log of about eight different types of arrests which can happen in a normal month. Lieutenant Mike Brosloe (Robert Loggia) leads her through a most unusual first shift. If all shifts were like this, even a veteran could only last a short time.
- Helen McNulty is a journalist struggling to regain control of her life a year after she was abducted and tortured in Central America. She goes to a clinic for survivors of torture, where she reflects on her experiences and learns about others who have suffered similar experiences. She is drawn to Professor Ramirez, another patient at the clinic, who is still being pursued by his attackers. She thinks he can relate to her suffering, and she begins to learn why.
- Karen's married to Frank, a millionaire who has no morals and a hypocrite. it's alright for him to fool around but not for her. So when she has an affair and brags to him about it, he vows to get back at her. When he dies after having one of his trysts, he leaves her millions of dollars but in trust, and also he has left instructions that if his wife gets involved with someone that they should be warned off. Maguire's a man who did a job for Frank but was not paid for it so he goes to Karen hoping to collect what Frank owes him. When they meet there's an attraction. And they also have to deal with Roland the man who's been assigned to keep all men away from Karen but when he learns what she has, he tries to capitalize on it.
- Lt. John Barton is sent on a special mission to deliver a special vaccine to a distant mining colony. He is infuriated to find Lee, a stowaway aboard his spacecraft. Barton has only enough fuel to carry himself and his precious cargo, and Lee's added weight insures that they will crash if she stays on board. They have gone too far to turn back, and Barton's superiors make it clear: the mission takes precedence and Lee has to be dumped into space. But she won't go quietly.
- Karen Garrett, a promising young doctor, is assigned to perform a difficult operation on Teach, an advanced android who has never "blanked" (had his memory erased.) She soon realizes that Teach is much more than an assignment, and is drawn to his desire for a very human life. When Karen takes Teach into the outside world, they soon discover that there is something far more mysterious and dangerous than a medical experiment planned for them.
- A group of elderly retirees join a boxing gym, and rediscover their self-worth as they repudiate expectations that they're too old to lead vigorous lives. Jack is particularly relieved to escape the tedium of his retirement home, as he advances to challenge brutish Rocco for the club championship. But Rudy, the club's operator, must battle local officials who are trying to close the club out of fear that the members are endangering themselves.
- Tuesday Morning Ride was based on the short story "A Summer Tragedy", by Arna Bontemps, a Harlem Renaissance writer. Set in the 1930s, the story depicts an old man and woman who feel they have nothing to live for, since their children do not visit. They are so depressed that they eventually take themselves over a cliff. Houston's portrayal of the characters is different. The elderly couple wake up on a Tuesday morning and finish preparing for their last few hours in their home before they have to move into an old people's home. The couple has everything to live for, but lack a society to do it in.
