Sadie Sink is now a front-runner to play Jean Grey in an X-Men reboot movie in the MCU. Marvel first teased an X-Men reboot following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. More updates came recently as X-Men characters began appearing in several MCU films. While some fans are excited about the actress in the role, others harbor concerns regarding her age.

Many believe that Sink is too young to play Jean in the films. Earlier versions of the character in the Fox Universe were played by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner. Sink looks younger than both these actresses, leading us to believe that Marvel might go for a story featuring much younger mutants.

In 2006, Casino Royale kicked off a new era of James Bond movies that would last all the way through 2021's No Time To Die, when Daniel Craig would officially retire as 007. So far as we know, producers are no closer to casting a new James Bond; apparently there's internal trouble at the studios. While we wait for them to sort things out, the YouTube channel Ron South has posted a bunch of videos of now-famous actors who auditioned to play James Bond for Casino Royale way back when. They include heavy hitters like Avatar star Sam Worthington, The Boys breakout Antony Starr, and the internet's favorite hunky nerd Henry Cavill.
Let's look at Sam Worthington's audition first. All three of these guys audition with the same scene, from 1995's Goldeneye, which starred Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. In this scene, Bond is playing a flirty game of Baccarat with femme fatale Xenia Onatopp,...

Movie lovers would be hard-pressed to find a movie role that comes with as much pressure, drama, and, oh yeah, controversy as James Bond. The general public is still waiting on pins and needles to see who officially takes the torch from the irreplaceable Daniel Craig, with rumors strongly pointing to "Kraven the Hunter" star Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the next man up to inherit the mantle. So, while the future of the franchise remains somewhat cloudy, what better time to look back at the past and consider all the what-ifs that could've potentially come to fruition?
Bond aficionados will forever obsess over fan-castings like Idris Elba, Dev Patel, and the always-popular Henry Cavill, but here's one twist they probably didn't see coming. None other than Homelander himself, "The Boys" actor Antony Starr, was once in the running to play the British superspy with a license to kill in 2006's "Casino Royale" -- or,...

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
Horror movies may not often get a whole lot of respect, critically speaking. For whatever reason, they are often treated as a lesser form of entertainment. It's only the rarest of rare genre offerings that can go on to become embraced both critically and commercially, with Jordan Peele's "Get Out" serving as a shining example from relatively recent times. That's an outlier though. One undeniable truth though is that these movies are a reliable backbone for Hollywood studios, delivering consistent profits against relatively low investments. Good movies, bad movies, it often doesn't matter.
Hardcore horror fans will tell you that the number of bad movies far outweighs the good in any given year. It's about searching for that diamond in the rough.

The 1998 high school horror flick The Faculty is the next on the line to get the remake treatment. Drew Hancock is in line to direct.
Audiences seem to be having a good time with Drew Hancock’s feature debut, Companion. The horror comedy comes from Boulderlight, the same team that brought the wild horror, Barbarian into the world back in 2022. Following the success of that film, they seem to have the pick of many a horror project in Hollywood.
For Drew Hancock, that next project could well be a remake of the 1998 high school horror, The Faculty.
The original featured an ensemble of young talent including a young Elijah Wood and Josh Hartnett and was a fun film, a kind of late 90s teen horror spin on Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. Salma Hayek popped up, as did Robert Patrick and Famke Janssen. With Robert Rodriguez directing, the movie possessed his trademark kinetic style,...

If it manages to strike that balance, it'll definitely be a hit in our book.
What horror classic is getting remade? Well, it'll be the 1998 sci-fi horror flick The Faculty, which starred talented actors such as Josh Hartnett, Jordana Brewster, Clea DuVall, Laura Harris, Salma Hayek, Famke Janssen, Shawn Hatosy, Christopher McDonald, and Elijah Wood. Back at the end of December 2023, just two days after the 25th anniversary of the release of director Robert Rodriguez‘s alien invasion horror film The Faculty (watch it Here), which reached theatres on December 25, 1998, scooper Daniel Richtman has revealed on his Patreon page that Rodriguez was on board to produce a remake of The Faculty. Now, thirteen months later, Variety has finally confirmed that scoop – and they have also revealed that the screenplay for the remake is being written by Drew Hancock, writer/director of the sci-fi thriller Companion, which reaches theatres tomorrow. JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols already had the chance to see Companion and gave it a 9/10 review that can be read Here.
Rodriguez directed the original The Faculty from a screenplay by Scream writer Kevin Williamson (working from a story by David Wechter and Bruce Kimmel). The film has the following synopsis: To the students at Harrington High,...

Sir Patrick Stewart is a nexus between "Star Trek" and "X-Men." For geeks, his two most famous roles will always be Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Professor Charles Xavier, and the two roles have a lot in common. The characters are both wise and fatherly leaders, even if Professor X is much warmer than the reserved Picard could ever be.
Stewart is not the only actor to appear in both a "Star Trek" and an "X-Men" production, though. But one overlap you may have missed is the late John Colicos, who played an important villain in both "Star Trek" and "X-Men."
On the original "Star Trek," Colicos played the first major Klingon character, Kor, in "An Errand of Mercy." About 30 years later, he voiced Apocalypse in the animated "X-Men" series, being the first actor to ever do so. Apocalypse was recast...

Many Trekkies might find it curious that someone like Jeff Bezos (who admittedly gave bad advice to the "Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" showrunners) would be a Trekkie. "Star Trek," after all, takes place in a post-capitalist society wherein humanity is no longer motivated by the accumulation of wealth. Class has essentially been erased, and technology allows everyone to live comfortably, without want. Jeff Bezos, meanwhile, is one of the richest people on the planet, said to be worth over $237 billion. He owns Amazon and the Washington Post, and has, in recent years, been spreading his money around the American Right Wing, showing financial support for the country's most unsavory politicians. He also prevented the Post from endorsing Kamala Harris for president. Bezos has been described as an oligarch and is certainly one of Earth's most insidious supra-capitalists. These are not the philosophical viewpoints of Gene Roddenberry's futuristic utopia.

Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu made a couple of changes to the original movie and the main character, Count Orlok, and it ended up sharing a disturbing power with Bill Skarsgård’s forgotten Netflix vampire. One of 2024’s most anticipated horror movies was Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, a remake of the 1922 German expressionist classic of the same name by F. W. Murnau, itself an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Nosferatu has been praised by critics and, at the time of writing, has already broken even at the box office, and it’s expected to make more.
Nosferatu takes the audience back to 1838 to meet Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp), a young woman married to Thomas Hutter (Nicholas Hoult), a solicitor and estate agent. Ellen has been haunted by a mysterious creature for years, and when Thomas travels to Transylvania for work, he meets the creature himself: vampire Count Orlok (Skarsgård). Orlok is...

Pierce Brosnan starred in four James Bond movies, but he never topped his first and best film, GoldenEye. Released in 1995, GoldenEye was directed by Martin Campbell, and it introduced the world to Pierce Brosnan as the new James Bond. GoldenEye also starred Sean Bean as the villainous Alec Trevalyan Aka 006, Famke Janssen as Xenia Onatopp, Isabella Scorupco as Natalya Simonova, and introduced Jedi Dench as the new M. GoldenEye was a box office smash, grossing $356 million worldwide.
After a 6-year interval since the previous James Bond film, 1989's License To Kill, due to a legal battle over the 007 rights between United Artists and MGM, Timothy Dalton bowed out of playing James Bond. Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson wisely selected Pierce Brosnan as the new 007. I'm even more hopeful about the upcoming X-Men reboot following recent reports of Jean Grey's casting in the MCU. As a member of the original X-Men team in Marvel Comics and one of the most-adapted and beloved mutants in the Marvel Universe, it makes sense to me that Jean Grey would be an essential character to debut in Marvel Studios' upcoming X-Men movie. The powerful telepath has previously been portrayed in live-action by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner, and her possible MCU casting may now have been revealed.

When I saw Famke Janssen in Soho in a red jacket, Lbd, and loafers, I thought she was a young fashion blogger. Her outfit exuded a youthful and fresh vibe, making it perfect for a night out or a casual stroll with friends.
This isn’t shocking, though, considering she usually wears clothing that makes her young-looking. But I particularly like this look more because it’s more contemporary. Famke’s 5’11 1/2” height, one of the tallest in Hollywood, allows her to effortlessly pull off various styles and look stunning.

Skyfall was Daniel Craig's billion-dollar-grossing James Bond film where M (Judi Dench) emerged as the true Bond Girl who became 007's mission to protect. Directed by Sam Mendes, Skyfall was a global box office hit in 2012 that took Daniel Craig's James Bond back to basics. Casino Royale rebooted 007 with Craig and refreshed multiple aspects of his James Bond. Skyfall melded Craig's new style of Bond with some more traditional tropes, and one of them was replacing Judi Dench's M with a male supervisor, Mallory (Ralph Fiennes).

As the crew of the USS Enterprise-d explored the galaxy on Star Trek: The Next Generation, they encountered some incredible characters who only appeared once. Led by Patrick Stewart's Captain Jean-Luc Picard, the characters of Tng have become one of the most beloved science fiction casts of all time. As they went on new adventures each week, Captain Picard and his crew made even the weakest episodes of Tng worth watching. However, some of Tng's best episodes became classics because of their guest stars.
With its episodic style of storytelling, Star Trek: The Next Generation introduced new characters each week who created the conflict for that week's plotline. Umbrella Entertainment resurrected a forgotten flick from the mid-90s with their Blu-ray release of Lord of Illusions last year. Back in 1995, writer-director Clive Barker ventured outside his normal horror otherworld playground to deliver this unconventional story that is part film noir and part supernatural fantasy thriller, but the result is all entertaining. Besides being a Barker joint, it starred an ex-Quantum Leaper, a Bond villain and a Seinfeld boss who loved making life a living hell for George Costanza!
And almost thirty years later, it indeed might be worth a revisit through fresh eyes.
A specialist in cases involving occult activity, private detective Harry D’Amour heads to Los Angeles for what is supposed to be an easy insurance fraud stakeout to shake off the trauma from his last job involving a demonically possessed young boy. This gig...

Twenty five years ago, on October 29, 1999, Dark Castle Entertainment launched with a remake of William Castle’s The House on Haunted Hill. Penned by Dick Beebe from Robb White’s original 1959 story and directed by William Malone, the 1999 remake relocated to a foreboding psychiatric hospital for its haunted setting. This time the ghosts were very real and very vengeful. At the center of it all, though, was a very inspired performance by Geoffrey Rush. One that deserves a space in horror’s hall of fame.
Rush played amusement park mogul Steven Price, the rich host to his wife’s birthday party that offers up $1,000,000 to anyone who can endure a night-long stay in the haunted hospital. This was the precise same role Vincent Price played in the 1959 original film, and the character was renamed in reference. The irony, though, is that Steven Price wasn’t initially meant to look like...

Jason Statham's first action role was in Ghosts of Mars, which was itself a stealth remake of a John Wayne Western. Released in 2001, Ghosts of Mars marked the final John Carpenter movie for a decade, with the legendary filmmaker taking a long break after feeling burnt out with the industry. The film itself is a fusion of sci-fi, action and horror, with a dash of Western thrown into the pot. Ghosts of Mars was also one of a run of films set on Mars during this period, including Val Kilmer's Red Planet and Mission to Mars.
The movie feels like a mixtape of Carpenter's previous work; Ghosts of Mars takes the cop shop setting of Assault on Precinct 13, the paranoia of The Thing with a main character who feels very much like Kurt Russell's Snake Plissken. There was even a debunked rumor Ghosts of Mars was almost the third Escape From.

The comedy-drama, which debuted as the opening film at this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival, follows Maja, a feisty 30-something (played by Anja Matković), who journeys to a remote island to resolve a family inheritance dispute only to be confronted with unresolved issues from her past. What starts as a quest for material wealth transforms into a deeper search for identity and forgiveness as she falls in love with the charming island and its quirky locals, and an unexpected romance blooms.
Propeler Film produced My Late Summer in co-production with Tangaj Production, Obala Art Centar, Bas Celik and Tramal Films.

Deadpool & Wolverine has emerged as the biggest superhero hit of recent years, achieving remarkable success at the box office and resonating with audiences, effectively breaking the MCU’s recent dry spell.
A significant portion of this success can be attributed to the appearances of iconic Marvel legacy characters. Fans have enjoyed the returns of Wesley Snipes as Blade, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, and even some fan-favorite castings like Channing Tatum as Gambit.
Fans were hoping to see more notable characters from the former Fox X-Men franchise return, including Jean Grey, portrayed by both Sophie Turner and Famke Janssen. Although there were rumors of Janssen’s appearance, fans were ultimately disappointed by the absence of both actresses.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is the biggest superhero hit released in the last few years. The movie has seen tremendous success both at the box office and with the audiences, somewhat ending the dry spell that the MCU was caught in.
Much of that success can be owed to cameos of Marvel legacy characters. We’ve seen the likes of Wesley Snipes return as Blade, Garner return as Elektra, and even some favorite fan castings like Channing Tatum’s Gambit.
Fans were however expecting more important characters to reprise their roles from the former Fox’s X-Men franchise, and among them was Jean Grey, played by Sophie Turner and Famke Janssen. Ultimately it was rumored that Janssen would appear, but fans were left short regarding both actresses.
Famke Janssen’s portrayal of Jean Grey in the earlier ‘X-Men’ films set a high bar, and many fans had strong attachments to that version.

I'm very excited about the prospect of 20th Century Fox's X-Men team returning in the MCU, as it means an iconic Summers family moment could finally be depicted in live-action after 24 years. Marvel Studios folded Fox's X-Men franchise and the heroes it contains into the McU's main continuity in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, dubbing this alternate reality Earth-10005. I loved that this canonized many of my favorite mutant heroes, while also creating the opportunity for some of them to be revisited in the McU's future.
While some of the actors from Fox's X-Men franchise have already reprised their roles in the MCU, I'm still waiting for the likes of James Marsden, Famke Janssen, Halle Berry, Josh Brolin and Ian McKellen to return to their legendary roles. Three of these names, in particular, fill me with hope that one of the most shocking moments from Marvel Comics' history could finally be seen in live-action.

On Friday nights, IndieWire After Dark takes a feature-length beat to honor fringe cinema in the streaming age.
This September, we’re celebrating Back to School Night with four midnight movies that aren’t just academically themed but also teach the lessons essential to understanding this school of cinema.
First, read the spoiler-free bait — a weird and wonderful pick from any time in film and why we think it’s worth memorializing. After you’ve watched the movie, come back for the bite — a breakdown of all the spoiler-y moments you’d want to unpack when exiting a theater.
The Bait: This Whole “Midnight Movie” Thing? It’s a Trap
Robert Rodriguez made his name on the candy-colored “Spy Kids” and the graphic novel-inspired “Sin City,” but you can see the director’s fingerprints (thumb-thumb-prints?) all over his earlier teen horror-comedy “The Faculty.”

Pierce Brosnan played James Bond between 1995 and 2002, and, though his performance in the James Bond franchise was seen as "style over substance" by some audiences, Brosnan's combination of charm and comedy became the signature approach he brought to the role, rebooting the James Bond franchise for a new generation. The four movies in which Brosnan plays James Bond generally received mediocre reviews, except for GoldenEye, which has an 80% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Deadpool and Wolverine may have come and gone, but that's only the beginning of an incredibly exciting era for Marvel Studios' Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was a major turning point for the saga, as it officially confronted the long-running franchise with the mutants' story as Hugh Jackman brought his Wolverine back to the big screens, opening the MCU up to the possibility of the X-Men.
He wasn't the only X-Men star to appear in the film either, as Aaron Stanford reprised his role as Pyro from X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand and Dafne Keen returned as Logan's Laura, while Channing Tatum finally got to play the role of Gambit after very nearly playing it in that aforementioned X-Men movie series.
There were rumors of other returnees, but those never panned out. And yet they remain entirely possible in the future due to the Multiverse Saga's existence,...

Long before the Avengers and the MCU were the dominant superhero franchises, Marvel was focused on bringing its most popular comic characters to the big screen. The idea of an X-Men movie was floated around as early as the mid-80s, but it took a while to find the right combination of writers, directors, and actors.
The movie that eventually emerged was released in 2000, following Wolverine and Rogue as they become entangled with both Charles Xavier and Magneto's respective teams of mutants. When Congress considers passing the Mutant Registration Act, Magneto launches a plan that could drastically change the political balance of the United States.
Since the first X-Men movie was released, there have been two direct sequels, a trilogy focused on Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, and four prequels. In addition, the Deadpool and New Mutants films have been set in the same world, expanding the franchise to even greater heights.

We've been waiting a long time for the debut of the X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now it's finally happening. Just like the multiple teases that Marvel Studios has made over the past few years, their arrival won't happen right away, but with the success of Deadpool and Wolverine, it's only a matter of time.
There is an X-Men movie in development, with reports claiming it could be a part of Phase Seven (which would place it after the Multiverse Saga concludes), but there is speculation that we could see multiple X-Men characters surface in the MCU before that movie. In fact, it's pretty likely that we will see Jackman's Wolverine back in at least one of the upcoming Avengers movies, with the possibility of other actors from that movie series also returning for a cameo appearance or two.
However, a new report claims that we coud see...

The Blacklist became one of the most popular shows on network television during its ten-season run. The McU's official X-Men team is expected to debut soon, and I think the group's original line-up from Marvel Comics could be the best roster. None of Marvel's original X-Men team members got the justice they deserved in Fox's live-action X-Men franchise, which can be rectified in the MCU. The X-Men's original line-up doesn't include Wolverine, which will leave more space for other mutants to be developed in the MCU.
My dream version of Marvel Studios' first mutant superhero team in the upcoming X-Men reboot doesn't feature Wolverine, and for very good reason. Since Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox was finalized in 2019, several mutant characters from Marvel Comics have debuted in the MCU, but these have been variants of notable mutants, or returning characters from Fox's X-Men franchise. Bosnian filmmaker Danis Tanović makes movies all around the world. His 2020 crime thriller The Postcard Killings (2020), starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Famke Janssen, and Cush Jumbo, was shot in Sweden. Triage (2009), which stars Collin Ferrell as a war photographer, shot in Ireland and Spain. He filmed his latest, the comedic drama My Late Summer, in Croatia. But he keeps coming back to Sarajevo.
“It’s the place where I know everybody, where everybody knows me,” Tanović says. “I know every stone of this city.”
Easily Bosnia’s greatest cinema export and to date its only Oscar winner (Tanović’s 2001 debut No Man’s Land, a powerful exploration of the absurdities of war, won the Academy Award for best foreign-language film), Tanović has carved out a unique career by refusing to repeat himself. L’Enfer (2005), his feature follow-up to No Man’s Land, is a family drama adapted from a script by the late Krzysztof Kieślowski and Krzysztof Piesiewicz.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is the latest blockbuster success in the MCU, having surpassed $1 billion at the box office and rekindling fan enthusiasm for the franchise.
The film’s success is largely attributed to its fan service and the inclusion of memorable cameos from previous Fox X-Men films and other Marvel movies released before the MCU’s inception.

Plenty of fans have expected some of the most notable X-Men to make an appearance as well and it’s been rumored that Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey, James Marsden’s Scott Summers, and Halle Berry’s Storm will appear but that did not happen.

The original X-Men film from 2000 may have been a total masterpiece just the way it was, but it wasn’t without quite a bit of stuff making its way onto the cutting room floor. While some of these cut-out scenes included some really epic moments like Bobby and Rogue’s romance arc being explored, it also included some hilariously iconic blooper moments.
A still from X-Men. (2000) | 20th Century Studios.
One of these blooper moments even saw an incredibly unexpected Avengers crossover with the X-Men universe as an Avenger popped into a scene where he wasn’t meant to be. Then 16 years later, Kevin Feige brought this very character back into the wild with Tom Holland playing him: Yes, the one who made his surprising cameo was indeed Spider-Man!

Stars: Bill Skarsgård, Jessica Rothe, Michelle Dockery, Brett Gelman, Famke Janssen | Written by Arend Remmers, Tyler Burton Smith | Directed by Moritz Mohr
In an alternate universe, a young boy is raised by an off-the-grid shaman to become a lethal weapon trained to take down the family responsible for a totalitarian regime. When the boy (Bill Skarsgård) gets older, he takes it upon himself to go after the head of the family Hilda Van der Koy (Famke Janssen) — the woman responsible for killing his mother and sister when he was a child.
When you are a director who has no feature film credits to your name, the cinematic world is your oyster. Neither having to live up to a previously built reputation nor giving over to the commercial industry, anything is possible — and Moritz Mohr proves this is still true in Boy Kills World. In an absolutely bonkers merging of tone,...

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.
Deadpool & Wolverine ended with Earth-10005 being safe and sound, making me hopeful that more X-Men characters from Fox's franchise could return in the MCU. As well as Deadpool, I would love to see the likes of Famke Janssen, James Marsden, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Patrick Stewart reprise their X-Men franchise roles in the MCU. Earth-10005 may be in danger in the McU's Multiverse Saga, giving these characters a finite time to return.
There are many other actors from 20th Century Fox's former Marvel franchise that I'd love to see join the MCU after the events of Deadpool & Wolverine. I was half expecting Marvel Studios' recent Deadpool & Wolverine to end with the destruction of Earth-10005, the designation for Fox's X-Men franchise, which ran for 13 movies between 2000's X-Men and 2020's The New Mutants. This didn't happen, however,...

Liam Neeson's role in Taken transformed him from a respected dramatic actor to a beloved action star. Taken struck a chord with audiences by showcasing a parent's quest to save their child under extreme circumstances. Despite mixed reviews from critics, Taken remains one of the high points in Neeson's action career, often imitated but rarely bettered.
The classic 2008 thriller that turned Liam Neeson from a respected dramatic actor into a beloved action star is now streaming on Max, and its still one of the high points of his career. After landing early roles in Excalibur and The Dead Pool, Neeson first rose to fame with his turn as Oskar Schindler in Steven Spielbergs harrowing Holocaust drama Schindlers List in 1993, which earned him a much-deserved Oscar nomination for Best Actor. This led to other leading roles in historical biopics, like 1995s Rob Roy and 1996s Michael Collins.

This article contains mild spoilers for "Deadpool & Wolverine."
When the trailers first dropped for "Deadpool & Wolverine," one of the biggest box office hits of 2024, fans were immediately consumed with trying to figure out which of their favorite superheroes was going to pop up with cameos. Audiences already knew that Jennifer Garner would be reprising her role as Elektra, but who would join her? Just when it seemed as if the fancasting predictions had finally hit their peak, a second "Deadpool & Wolverine" trailer hit the timelines. With only a week until the film arrived in theaters, Marvel drummed up even more hype for the long-awaited team-up of Wade Wilson and Logan with the reveal of what appeared to be a mysterious Deadpool variant, Lady Deadpool.
Lady Deadpool is the main female variant of Deadpool from the alternate timeline Earth-3010. The trailer (and subsequent movie) showed her in a Deadpool suit with a long,...

Star Matt Damon, who appeared in the 1998 poker drama Rounders with Edward Norton, is keen on making a sequel.
It’s not uncommon for an actor to be out on the press circuit and be questioned about a film they’d love to do a sequel for. However, when that actor has their own production company, any answer they give has a much greater chance of actually happening. Recently on The Rich Eisen Show, Matt Damon was asked that very question and he didn’t have to think too hard about his response.
“The one that we’ve been talking about for years – and I just saw Edward Norton a few weeks ago, [and] all of us want to do it – is a second Rounders movie,” Damon said, as picked up by The Hollywood Reporter. “Because so much has happened in that poker world in the last 25 years, it would be...
