John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are going from Dungeons & Dragons to Park Ave, closing a deal to write a movie based on the board game Monopoly.
Lionsgate is behind the project that is being produced by Barbie outfit LuckyChap and Hasbro Entertainment.
Monopoly dates back to 1935, and challenges players to acquire properties and build houses and hotels, all while avoiding bankruptcy and the dreaded “go directly to jail” card. The game was created as a way of showing that the consolidation of wealth is overall bad for the health of an economy. Nearly 1 billion copies of the game have been sold, and just as many explosive family arguments have been waged over the game.

Jason Bateman remembers the “Arrested Development” film that almost came to be. Bateman said during a recent appearance on the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast, which you can see in the below video, that Matt Damon was interested in the project at one point. The only downside? Now, nobody “gives a shit” about bringing the film to the screen.
“Arrested Development” series ran from 2003 to 2006 on Fox and was later revived by Netflix for two additional seasons between 2013 and 2019. In the series, Bateman played Michael Bluth, who is tasked with running his eccentric family’s real estate empire after his father (Jeffrey Tambor) is arrested. Michael Cera played Bateman’s onscreen son, with Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, and Tony Hale as his siblings. Late actress Jessica Walter iconically played the boozy family matriarch Lucille. David Cross, Alia Shawkat, Henry Winkler, and Liza Minnelli co-starred.

Mindy Kaling is back with Running Point. She has been a singular comic voice on television for the past fifteen years. Her Fox and Hulu series The Mindy Project, which you can also find streaming on Netflix, was one of the funniest sitcoms of the decade. Then came the semi-autobiographical Never Have I Ever, a hilarious coming-of-age story unlike anything else on television, whether streaming or network.
However, Running Point is nothing like those shows because it’s just another run-of-the-mill comedy. The series is not particularly funny, relying too heavily on excessive exposition and basketball lingo that isn’t executed well. It’s pleasant enough but ultimately a gigantic letdown, given the cast and the talent involved, particularly behind the camera.

Matt Damon was ready to step into the role of Michael Bluth in an Arrested Development movie, per Jason Bateman.
The Emmy-winning actor/producer/director made a recent appearance on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast, where he revealed that Damon once pitched himself for a cameo in a potential film adaptation of the hit sitcom.
“I remember Matt Damon coming up to me at — I think it was like a Golden Globes or something — and I was so excited to meet him and, and he was a huge fan of Arrested Development,” Bateman recalled of the interaction. “And he was saying, ‘You know, I really think I could play, because I hear you guys are doing the movie, I think I could… can I play you?'”
Arrested Development, created by Mitchell Hurwitz, centers on level-headed son Michael Bluth who takes over family affairs after his father is imprisoned.

Exciting news for fans of the outdoors, cutthroat competition, and homemade fish traps: Outlastis officially coming back for a third season.
Produced by Aggregate Films and BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions, Outlast drops 16 survivalists in the farthest reaches of the wilderness, each of them with a compelling story about why they absolutely must win the $1 million prize. And that’s where things get interesting: While most survival shows ask contestants to go it alone, the Outlast hopefuls have to split into teams of four and, well, outlast the others, using only a handful of survival tools and a team-built shelter to survive. Contestants can change teams at any time, but they must be part of a team to win — and whichever team survives the longest splits the cash. Strategic survival chaos ensues.

Back before the show spluttered to a halt with its less-than-satisfying fifth season, there was a lot of talk about a potential Arrested Development movie. And now Jason Bateman has revealed new details about what that may have looked like.
When the show was canceled by Fox in 2007, streaming TV series didn’t exist. The only potential future for the Bluth family was to make the leap to the big screen, or so it seemed at the time. The final moments of the (first) series finale made an unsubtle meta-joke about that apparent strategy, with Maeby pitching a TV show about her family to Ron Howard, who tells her, “I don’t see it as a series. Maybe a movie…”
In 2011, Bateman told NPR’s Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! that the rumored cinematic continuation of Arrested Development was “moving along quite nicely.” But just two years later, instead of a feature film,...

Ron Howard was five years old when he made his film acting debut in Anatole Litvak's 1959 Hungarian Revolution drama "The Journey." A year later, the red-headed scamp got cast as Opie Taylor, the son of Mayberry, North Carolina sheriff Andy Taylor in "The Andy Griffith Show," which had the effect of turning him into America's kid brother. Television viewers watched Howard grow up throughout the 1960s, so they felt as though they had a touch of skin in the game when he played recent high-school graduate Steve Bolander in George Lucas' "American Graffiti." Then he landed the role of Richie Cunningham in the ABC sitcom "Happy Days," at which point he seemed like family. Everyone wanted Howard to excel.
If, however, everyone was being honest with themselves, it was hard to see Howard's acting career lasting much longer than "Happy Days." He possessed limited range and couldn't seem to shake his pipsqueak persona.

Will Smith might be returning to another one of his past roles.
While appearing on xQc’s live stream on Twitch, Smith answered some fan questions when one asked about the possibility of another Hancock film. The 2008 superhero movie directed by Peter Berg starred Smith as Hancock, an alcoholic superhero who tries to revitalize his public image and help the city of Los Angeles after he saves the life of a PR executive (Jason Bateman) and meets the exec’s wife (Charlize Theron).
When asked about a sequel, Smith joked, “They be leaking all my information.”
The actor teased, “There’s a really cool, really cool Hancock 2 idea. We haven’t even talked about it, so I’m going to give you on little piece — Zendaya will be being approached for Hancock 2, for a role in Hancock 2.”
Smith’s comments are not the first time a potential sequel has been hinted at.

Several "Arrested Development" actors have become quite successful after the show ended. Folks like Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Will Arnett, Alia Shawkat, Tony Hale, and David Cross have appeared in a great many roles to various degrees of success. Jessica Walter further established herself as a bona fide comedy legend on "Archer" before her tragic death in 2021. The person who narrated the show -- some guy called Ron Howard -- has apparently done Ok for himself too, all things considered.
Portia de Rossi, on the other hand, is an exception to the rule. Despite her obvious talent and charisma, the reliably hilarious actress who played the important "Arrested Development" main character Lindsay Bluth-Fünke isn't what you'd call a household Hollywood name these days. In fact, after the show's fifth and final season ended in 2019, she really hasn't done all that much ... when it comes to acting, at least. So, why...

Back in 2022, we got word that a new Friday the 13th TV series was in the works for Peacock. Now, we finally have our first bit of casting news, and it seems to have gone over very well with fans of the classic slasher franchise.
According to Jeff Sneider, Linda Cardellini is in early talks to take on the key role of Jason Voorhees' mother, Pamela, who was played by the late Betsy Palmer in the original.
Sneider believes that production is scheduled to commence this summer.
"Cardellini will soon begin filming HBO’s dark comedy series Dtf St. Louis with Jason Bateman and David Harbour, and I imagine that she’ll segue to Crystal Lake after that — and most likely this summer."
Brad Caleb Kane (Welcome to Derry) came on board as showrunner when Bryan Fuller parted ways with the project last year.

By now the "'Die Hard' on a"-style movie is basically its own genre. John McTiernan's legendary 1988 actioner spawned more imitators than perhaps any movie in Hollywood history. Many action fans know, for instance, that "Speed" is essentially "Die Hard on a bus," and its follow-up, "Speed 2: Cruise Control," literally was supposed to be "Die Hard 3" before its script was rejected in favor of the "Die Hard with a Vengeance" screenplay. "Cliffhanger" is "Die Hard" on a mountain, "Air Force One" is "Die Hard" on a plane. Heck, even today we're seeing the movie reproduced in the form of Netflix thriller "Carry-On," a Christmas action movie which is essentially just "Die Hard 2" with Taron Edgerton and Jason Bateman.
While many of these imitators are excellent action movies in their own right, the "Die Hard" formula doesn't always produce such quality. Take "Aftermath," a new movie...

YouTube and Spotify have been duking it out in the podcast space for years, with YouTube just this morning declaring it’s the #1 spot for U.S. listeners to find podcasts. But as the podcast industry has grown, both companies have become interested in its next frontier: video podcasts.
YouTube is the biggest home for video on the internet, so naturally sees plenty of podcasters (many of whom started as YouTubers) uploading their shows to its platform. Spotify, meanwhile, has signed major content deals with shows like The Joe Rogan Experience, and recently ran a campaign highlighting creators who’ve seen success with video podcasts on its platform.
Now, a new challenger may be entering the ring.
Netflix.
According to four people familiar with the matter who spoke to Business Insider, Netflix is exploring potential video deals with podcasters. This interest is spurred by YouTube’s consistent rise to not just podcast,...

After the massive success of Carry On, Deadline reports that Jaume Collet-Serra has found his next project with Play Dead. The film is a survival thriller which is being described as Don’t Breathe meets 1917. Unfortunately, plot details aren’t known at this time. Peter Stanley-Ward and Natalie Conway penned the script, and production is set to kick off in May.
It’s also possible that Collet-Serra might direct a sequel to Carry On. The film has become one of Netflix’s most popular movies, and although a sequel isn’t in the cards at the moment, Collet-Serra is down to return. “I would like to definitely make another one. When we started with the movie, it certainly felt like one unique story in a moment in time with a set of characters,” he said. “If an idea comes to us that feels like we can do something that is as original as the first one,...

The most wonderful time for streaming officially has a date: Dec. 25, 2024. That single day accounted for 51.2 billion minutes of cumulative streaming time, according to Nielsen, making it the most-streamed day of television for the U.S. in the company’s history of measurement.
Streaming represented roughly half of total TV consumption on that day, clocking in at 49.5%.
So what were people watching on Christmas Day? Unsurprisingly, Netflix stole the show. The Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans NFL game was the most-watched event of the day, securing 2.98 billion minutes streamed alone. The Ravens and Texans likely got an assist from Beyoncé, who performed during halftime. That was followed by the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburg Steelers game, which also secured 2.98 billion minutes streamed, though it saw roughly 200,000 fewer streaming minutes than the other game.

British royal family news reveals that cable actress Meghan Markle and clown prince Harry married in 2018 and fled the kingdom two very short years later.
They have been wilting in Montecito, California ever since, trying one thing after another to make a buck and be respectable.
Hollywood has a closed door policy on the UnSussexfuls after a series of diasterous, tasteless appearances by the traitorous two. Here is how Meghan and Harry have squandered viable opportunities since Megxit.
Megxit Came In 2020
Harry and Meghan started off free life by sleeping on Tyler Perry’s couch and it was all down him from there. Although they proclaimed themselves to be philanthropists who would heal the world, they have become poster kids for dysfunctional delusion.
In 2022 Meghan got around to launching her Spotify podcast “Archetypes” but some employees promptly called her a bully, claims that were leveled at her before she fled the castle.

In 2020, mere weeks before the pandemic, HBO released a 10-episode miniseries adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Outsider. Developed by the great Richard Price, the series stars Ben Mendelsohn, Cynthia Erivo, Jason Bateman, and Julianne Nicholson, adding a little more grit, grime, and story to the 2018 novel. Critics were impressed as were Constant Readers.
Yet so was The Losers’ Club who covered the series live half a decade ago. Now, in the wake of reviewing the novel, they’re revisiting the proverbial crime scene with a murderers’ row of co-hosts to debate whether this run of television supersedes the source material, Erivo’s take on Holly Gibney, the adjustments to character, and more.

Carry On has become one of Netflix’s most popular movies, currently sitting at #3 on the streaming service’s Top 10 Most Popular Movies of All Time with 162.7 million views. With those kinds of numbers, you would imagine that Netflix is very seriously considering a sequel, but Carry On director Jaume Collet-Serra told Variety that a sequel is “not in the cards” at the moment.
However, Collet-Serra is down to make a sequel should Netflix come calling. “I would like to definitely make another one. When we started with the movie, it certainly felt like one unique story in a moment in time with a set of characters,” he said. “If an idea comes to us that feels like we can do something that is as original as the first one, and that can connect with the audience in the same way, then we’ll explore that.“

Just two months ago, a red ribbon tied to a piece of luggage only meant one thing: your bag wouldn’t get lost in the sea of identical suitcases at baggage claim. That was a simpler time.
Thanks to “Carry-On,” Netflix’s high-octane Christmas Eve thriller starring Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman, a simple ribbon has taken on an entirely new meaning. In the movie directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, Egerton plays Ethan Kopek, a Tsa agent blackmailed by a ruthless bioterrorist into allowing his red-ribboned carry-on containing a lethal nerve agent to pass through the airport security checkpoint.
The first film out of Netflix’s creative partnership with Amblin was an instant hit for the streamer upon its release on Dec. 13, and has since become its third most-watched film ever (“Red Notice” and “Don’t Look Up” currently hold the top two spots).

Netflix started its move into original programming with dark and broody dramas such as Lilyhammer, House of Cards and Narcos.
Over the years, it has expanded into multi-camera sitcoms, reality programming and live sporting events, leading many to suggest that the streamer has been looking to shed its image in the boutique space.
In fact, Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos told the New York Times last year that he wish he could take back a 2012 comment where he said he wanted Netflix “to become HBO before HBO could become us” and instead say he wanted the streamer to become HBO, CBS and the BBC. “Prestige elite programming plays a very important role in culture. But it’s very small. It’s a boutique business,” he told the Nyt.

Arlan Ruf, a promising, up-and-coming young actor, will co-star opposite Jason Bateman and David Harbour in the HBO limited series “Dtf St. Louis,” Variety has learned.
The seven-episode show comes from creator and showrunner Steven Conrad. HBO describes “Dtf St. Louis” as a dark comedy about a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise — an entanglement that leads to one of them ending up dead.
Bateman has been busy since ending his run on Netflix’s crime series “Ozark.” He co-starred in the streamer’s suspense hit, “Carry On” and is working on its new limited series “Black Rabbit.” Harbour is finishing up “Stranger Things.” He will co-star in Marvel’s “Thunderbolts*,” which opens in May.
Linda Cardellini (“Freaks & Geeks”) and Oscar-nominee Richard Jenkins (“The Shape of Water”) will also star. Ruf will play the role of Richard, the socially maladjusted, delinquent stepson of Harbour’s character.

Among the emerging actors of American cinema Taron Egerton stands out for his striking selection of roles, not necessarily played with the finesse that they deserve. Egerton played the iconic musician Elton John some time ago with underwhelming potency.
He is back in this more-messy-than-mass entertainer playing an airport security personnel, Ethan, who is bullied into loading a sinister suitcase on a plane. Just how the terrorist(Jason Bateman) inflicts his will on Ethan is the plot on which the efficacy of the thrill element hinges. Sadly, the thrills are lost in the jostle and bustle of the airport terminal.
Though the physical details of the airport are very impressively staged, the plot is intrinsically daft, replacing authentic suspense with bogus jumpscares that replicate the mild tension you may feel while waiting for the conveyer belt to bring your luggage to safety before you scoot through that door.
Some of the plotting is preposterous.
