Jason Bateman remembers the “Arrested Development” film that almost came to be. Bateman said during a recent appearance on the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast, which you can see in the below video, that Matt Damon was interested in the project at one point. The only downside? Now, nobody “gives a shit” about bringing the film to the screen.

“Arrested Development” series ran from 2003 to 2006 on Fox and was later revived by Netflix for two additional seasons between 2013 and 2019. In the series, Bateman played Michael Bluth, who is tasked with running his eccentric family’s real estate empire after his father (Jeffrey Tambor) is arrested. Michael Cera played Bateman’s onscreen son, with Portia de Rossi, Will Arnett, and Tony Hale as his siblings. Late actress Jessica Walter iconically played the boozy family matriarch Lucille. David Cross, Alia Shawkat, Henry Winkler, and Liza Minnelli co-starred.

However, Running Point is nothing like those shows because it’s just another run-of-the-mill comedy. The series is not particularly funny, relying too heavily on excessive exposition and basketball lingo that isn’t executed well. It’s pleasant enough but ultimately a gigantic letdown, given the cast and the talent involved, particularly behind the camera.

Although Jason Bateman has little hope for an Arrested Development movie, other Hollywood parties are definitely interested.

The streamer has renewed Outlast, which comes from executive producer Jason Bateman, for a third season.

It comes after the second season, which consisted of eight episodes, premiered in September.

Season 1 was shot near the Neka River on Chichagof Island, Alaska, while the second season was filmed at Little Duncan Bay, Alaska, south of Petersburg.

The series features 16 lone-wolf experts who are dropped in the wilderness and must outlast one another in a battle for a million-dollar payout. There’s only one rule in this cutthroat game: They must be part of a team to win.

[Spoiler Alert] Season 2 was won by two men from Texas – Drake Vliem II and Drew Haas. Vliem is a 6-foot-7 oil field technician from Midland, while Haas is the owner of a party boat business from Hallettsville.

While appearing on xQc’s live stream on Twitch, Smith answered some fan questions when one asked about the possibility of another Hancock film. The 2008 superhero movie directed by Peter Berg starred Smith as Hancock, an alcoholic superhero who tries to revitalize his public image and help the city of Los Angeles after he saves the life of a PR executive (Jason Bateman) and meets the exec’s wife (Charlize Theron).

When asked about a sequel, Smith joked, “They be leaking all my information.”

The actor teased, “There’s a really cool, really cool Hancock 2 idea. We haven’t even talked about it, so I’m going to give you on little piece — Zendaya will be being approached for Hancock 2, for a role in Hancock 2.”

Smith’s comments are not the first time a potential sequel has been hinted at.

Several "Arrested Development" actors have become quite successful after the show ended. Folks like Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Will Arnett, Alia Shawkat, Tony Hale, and David Cross have appeared in a great many roles to various degrees of success. Back in 2022, we got word that a new Friday the 13th TV series was in the works for Peacock. Now, we finally have our first bit of casting news, and it seems to have gone over very well with fans of the classic slasher franchise.

According to Jeff Sneider, Linda Cardellini is in early talks to take on the key role of Jason Voorhees' mother, Pamela, who was played by the late Betsy Palmer in the original.

Bruton was charged in the early 2000s for a manslaughter conviction from a fatal hit and run in Jacksonville, Fl. The movie will follow Bruton’s journey through the correctional system.

In the wake of his release and moving to California, Bruton turned to making the YouTube video series Bryan Bruton Crazy Prison Stories. Bruton’s videos canvases life in the Florida prison system from, from how inmates obtain and conceal drugs, alcohol and weapons to cutting the window out of one’s jail cell.

Grashaw also wrote the screenplay. Bruton recently wrapped production in Gulfport and Biloxi, Mississippi.

YouTube and Spotify have been duking it out in the podcast space for years, with YouTube just this morning declaring it’s the #1 spot for U.S. listeners to find podcasts. But as the podcast industry has grown, both companies have become interested in its next frontier: video podcasts.

YouTube is the biggest home for video on the internet, so naturally sees plenty of podcasters (many of whom started as YouTubers) uploading their shows to its platform. Spotify, meanwhile, has signed major content deals with shows like The Joe Rogan Experience, and recently ran a campaign highlighting creators who’ve seen success with video podcasts on its platform.

Now, a new challenger may be entering the ring.

After the massive success of Carry On, Deadline reports that Jaume Collet-Serra has found his next project with Play Dead. The film is a survival thriller which is being described as Don’t Breathe meets 1917. Unfortunately, plot details aren’t known at this time. Peter Stanley-Ward and Natalie Conway penned the script, and production is set to kick off in May.

It’s also possible that Collet-Serra might direct a sequel to Carry On. The film has become one of Netflix’s most popular movies, and although a sequel isn’t in the cards at the moment, Collet-Serra is down to return. “I would like to definitely make another one. Exclusive: After scoring massive viewership with Carry-On, his Netflix action-thriller starring Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman, which drew rave reviews in its December launch, director Jaume Collet-Serra has found his next project in Play Dead, a survival thriller described as Don’t Breathe meets 1917, sources tell Deadline.

Specifics as to the film’s plot are under wraps. Script is by Peter Stanley-Ward & Natalie Conway. Nocturnal is fully financing the project and producing alongside Ghost House Pictures, BoulderLight Pictures, and Bad Grey, with production to kick off at NantStudios in Docklands Studios Melbourne in May.

Akiva Nemetsky and Keaton Heinrichs will produce for Nocturnal, alongside Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert for Ghost House, Jd Lifshitz and Raphael Margules for BoulderLight, and Dane Eckerle for Bad Grey. Romel Adam and Jose Cañas will oversee for Ghost House, with Tracy Rosenblum overseeing for BoulderLight. Scott Greenberg of Lbi will exec produce, with Jazmyn Tanski overseeing.

The most wonderful time for streaming officially has a date: Dec. 25, 2024. That single day accounted for 51.2 billion minutes of cumulative streaming time, according to Nielsen, making it the most-streamed day of television for the U.S. in the company’s history of measurement.

Streaming represented roughly half of total TV consumption on that day, clocking in at 49.5%.

So what were people watching on Christmas Day? Unsurprisingly, Netflix stole the show. The Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans NFL game was the most-watched event of the day, securing 2.98 billion minutes streamed alone. The Ravens and Texans likely got an assist from Beyoncé, who performed during halftime. That was followed by the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Pittsburg Steelers game, which also secured 2.98 billion minutes streamed, though it saw roughly 200,000 fewer streaming minutes than the other game.

With those kinds of numbers, you would imagine that Netflix is very seriously considering a sequel, but Carry On director Jaume Collet-Serra told Variety that a sequel is “not in the cards” at the moment.

The deal brings both exclusive advertising and distribution rights for the audio and video versions of The Fantasy Footballers Podcast and its network of shows to the SiriusXM Podcast Network. The Fantasy Footballers will also create new exclusive programming for SiriusXM listeners.

Arlan Ruf, a promising, up-and-coming young actor, will co-star opposite Jason Bateman and David Harbour in the HBO limited series “Dtf St. Louis,” Variety has learned.

The seven-episode show comes from creator and showrunner Steven Conrad. HBO describes “Dtf St. Louis” as a dark comedy about a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-age malaise — an entanglement that leads to one of them ending up dead.

Bateman has been busy since ending his run on Netflix’s crime series “Ozark.” He co-starred in the streamer’s suspense hit, “Carry On” and is working on its new limited series “Black Rabbit.” Harbour is finishing up “Stranger Things.” He will co-star in Marvel’s “Thunderbolts*,” which opens in May.

Linda Cardellini (“Freaks & Geeks”) and Oscar-nominee Richard Jenkins (“The Shape of Water”) will also star. Ruf will play the role of Richard, the socially maladjusted, delinquent stepson of Harbour’s character.

Among the emerging actors of American cinema Taron Egerton stands out for his striking selection of roles, not necessarily played with the finesse that they deserve. Egerton played the iconic musician Elton John some time ago with underwhelming potency.

He is back in this more-messy-than-mass entertainer playing an airport security personnel, Ethan, who is bullied into loading a sinister suitcase on a plane. Just how the terrorist(Jason Bateman) inflicts his will on Ethan is the plot on which the efficacy of the thrill element hinges. Sadly, the thrills are lost in the jostle and bustle of the airport terminal.

Though the physical details of the airport are very impressively staged, the plot is intrinsically daft, replacing authentic suspense with bogus jumpscares that replicate the mild tension you may feel while waiting for the conveyer belt to bring your luggage to safety before you scoot through that door.

Some of the plotting is preposterous.
