Robert De Niro’s “Goodfellas” reunion is now an official Tribeca event.

De Niro, who cofounded the festival and organization with producer Jane Rosenthal, leads the upcoming mob true story “The Alto Knights” in dual roles: De Niro portrays real-life mafia dons Vito Genovese and Frank Costello, with “Goodfellas” screenwriter Nick Pileggi penning the script.

IndieWire can announce that Tribeca members will be the among the first audiences for the feature, which will have its U.S. premiere March 15 as part of the membership program. “The Alto Knights” debuts in theaters March 21.

“The Alto Knights” is more than just a “Goodfellas” reunion for De Niro: he also is back with director Barry Levinson, who he previously collaborated with on the HBO TV movie “The Wizard of Lies” (2017) and the 1997 political satire film “Wag the Dog.” Levinson also produced “The Sopranos” and “The Wire.”

When discussing mob drama The Alto Knights, formerly known as Wiseguys, it is impossible not to think about Martin Scorsese’s seminal gangster film Goodfellas, in which Robert De Niro played the smooth talking Jimmy Conway opposite Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci. The Alto Knights reunites De Niro and screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi for a story that sees De Niro play the dual roles of quarrelling mob bosses.

It’s safe to say we’re rather excited to see this.

The Alto Knights has been a long time coming. The film was stuck in development hell for a number of decades before Warner Bros revived the project in the summer of 2022.

Variety is reporting that a Clayface movie is officially moving forward at DC Studios, with Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep; The Fall of the House of Usher; Midnight Mass) attached to write the screenplay. 

Flanagan and Trevor Macy, his partner at Intrepid Pictures, pitched the potential film to James Gunn and Peter Safran over a year ago, and it looks like the idea won over the new DC bosses as they've issued a formal greenlight.

Plot details remain under wraps, but what we do know is that Clayface won't be a villain in the feature, which makes sense considering that back in 2021, Flanagan, when asked which DC movie he'd like to make, said, "Well I've wanted to do a Superman movie since I was a kid, but I would also be really keen to do a standalone Clayface movie as a horror/thriller/tragedy."

A new CSI show is in active development at CBS, according to a top network executive, despite the cancellation of CSI: Vegas. Continuing the long-running procedural drama of the same name, CSI: Vegas took a different approach than the original by going in a more serialized direction. In its first installment, a group of investigators led by Maxine Roby (Paula Newsome) turn to old friends - including Gil Grissom (William Petersen) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) - to solve a case centered around former colleague David Hodges (Wallace Langham). Despite generally solid ratings, CSI: Vegas was among the shows recently cancelled by CBS.

Both “So Help Me Todd” and “CSI: Vegas” have been canceled at CBS, Variety has learned.

“So Help Me Todd” is currently airing its second season at the broadcaster, while “CSI: Vegas” is airing its third. Both shows are scheduled to air their season finales in May, which will now serve as series finales.

The two shows were some of the few CBS shows awaiting words on their fates for next season. The only other CBS shows with pending renewal statuses are “The Equalizer” and “NCIS: Hawai’i.” They are both solid performers, with “So Help Me Todd” averaging 7.7 million viewers an episode in multiplatform Live+35 and “CSI: Vegas” averaging 7.6 million. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, CBS simply did not have enough room on the schedule to bring them back.

In addition to its many previously announced renewals, CBS already has a number of new shows set to debut next season.

This may be the season that CSI: Vegas finally stands on its own two feet.

In its first two seasons, this hybrid has faced a difficult challenge. It's not a revival of the popular series, which ran for 15 seasons on CBS. It isn't a reboot, with new characters repopulating an old concept.

Instead, in its first two seasons, CSI: Vegas has featured a couple of legacy characters to draw in viewers of the original series.

In CSI: Vegas Season 1, power couple Gil Grissom (William Peterson) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) returned to clear the lab's reputation and former lab rat David Hodges (Wallace Langham) from a well-crafted frame.

Meanwhile, seemingly in the background, the lab's new criminologists solved the day-to-day cases.

Deadline reports that HBO has canceled Perry Mason after just two seasons, which is sure to upset fans as the recent season finale ended on something of a cliffhanger.

The drama series starred Matthew Rhys as Perry Mason, the iconic criminal defence lawyer. “We are tremendously grateful for the remarkable work of Matthew Rhys and the unrivaled cast and crew of Perry Mason for their reimagining of such a treasured and storied franchise,” HBO said in a statement. “While we won’t be moving forward with another season of the series, we are excited to continue working with the brilliant creatives at Team Downey on future projects.“

Perry Mason was executive produced by Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey through their Team Downey banner. Just prior to the second season finale, Downey Jr. had discussed bringing the series back for a third season. “I mean wouldn’t that be nice?...

Eric Szmanda will be returning to the CSI franchise in upcoming episodes of CSI: Vegas. The crime drama premiered on CBS last year and serves as a sequel to the popular, and long-running, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Season 1 tracked a new team of investigators, along with a few familiar faces, and their efforts to protect the streets of Sin City from an existential threat and ongoing criminal activity. Intended to be a limited series, CSI: Vegas was renewed last December, and its latest episodes are still airing. Szmanda previously appeared in all 15 seasons of CSI as Greg Sanders, a lab technician turned Level III investigator, and is set to return.

When you watch enough movies and shows, you start to pick up on certain little recurring trends. Chief among them has to be the instinct to create new adaptations of classic, pulpy characters ... but with a dark, brooding, and adult-only sheen layered on top. “CSI: Vegas” is losing two franchise stalwarts when it returns for Season 2, but may be pulling back another “CSI” vet. TheWrap has learned that Marg Helgenberger is early talks to reprise her role as Catherine Willows.

TV Line was first to report on Helgenberger’s potential return, which a source told TheWrap is in the early stages.

CBS declined to comment.

Helgenberger most recently starred on the first two seasons of CBS legal drama “All Rise,” which is moving over to OWN for its third season. Helgenberger will not be part of the main cast, as she was committed to another pilot when the show was canceled by CBS.

Helgenberger starred in the first 12 seasons of the original “CSI,” and returned for a guest spot during the 14th season.

Rodriguez lplayed Chief Medical Examiner Hugo Ramirez in Season 1. It is unknown if he will make occasional appearances in the future.

TV Line was the first to announce Rodriguez’s exit from the sequel to the groundbreaking 2000 series.

Petersen revealed last month that he would not reprise the role of Gil Grissom beyond Season 1’s 10 episodes. He will continue to serve as executive producer of the show’s sophomore season.

This week, Fox confirmed via Twitter that her character Sara Sidle would also not be returning.

Jorja Fox’s Sara Sidle will not be back for the second season of CSI: Vegas.

Fox revealed on Twitter that she has decided not to return to the sequel of the classic procedural.

It comes after the show was renewed for a second season in December.

Season one was led by the original series stars William Petersen and Fox. However, Petersen had only signed on to reprise his role as Gil Grissom in the initial 10-episode installment and will only return as an exec producer.

It seems this move has influenced Fox, whose contract had allowed her to continue if she chose to with producers hopeful that she would come back.

“After much deliberating, I have decided not to ‘Sidle up’ for CSI Vegas. For me CSI has always been a love story. The story that people can find love in the darkest of places and times,” she wrote.
