Hugh Dancy has been working as a screen actor for over 20 years, and ranking his movies from worst to best, including his turn in Downton Abbey, reveals a filmography varied in genres and styles. Since his breakout role in the 2000 TV movie David Copperfield, Dancy has amassed significant fame for such roles as Will Graham in the NBC television series Hannibal and Prince Charmont in the feature film Ella Enchanted. Beyond these headliners, however, Dancy has accrued dozens of other successful roles.
Born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, in 1975, Dancy was sent to theater class for misconduct at the age of 13 and discovered a passion for acting that would later take him far in the business. In 2009, he married actress Claire Danes after meeting her on the set of the movie Evening in 2006, and he has since also worked with her on the series Homeland. Walpurgisnacht, also known as Walpurgis Night or Hexennacht, is a pagan holiday celebrated on the night of April 30th. It is named after Saint Walpurga, an eighth-century nun who Christianized parts of Germany. However, the holiday has roots in pagan traditions that celebrate the coming of spring and the triumph of life over death. It is also associated with witchcraft and supernatural phenomena, making it a perfect occasion to indulge in some spine-chilling horror films.
So, grab some popcorn and get ready for a night of scares with these ten chilling recommendations for Walpurgisnacht.
1. Dracula (1931)
What better way to kick off Walpurgisnacht than with the most iconic vampire movie of all time? Dracula (1931) stars Bela Lugosi as the titular count who travels from Transylvania to England to spread his curse of the undead. The beginning of the film is actually set on Walpurgisnacht, as Renfield (Dwight Frye) arrives at Dracula...

Danger, not safety, comes with the act of conforming in The Woods. In Lucky McKee’s sophomore film, a troubled teenager is sent away because of her disruptive behavior. Asking questions, going against norms and not abiding by the rules, however, are ultimately what saves her from an early death.
This 2006 film is indeed set in 1965 New England, but the story’s central message is timeless. When first meeting the rebellious Heather Fasulo (Agnes Bruckner), the teen is en route to a remote boarding school for young women. Her parents are visibly split on the matter; the prim Mrs. Fasulo (Emma Campbell) thinks Falburn Academy will straighten out her daughter after a small incident of arson, whereas the reluctant Mr. Fasulo (Bruce Campbell) bites his tongue.
When first walking down the halls of Falburn Academy, only the audience seems to notice the overgrowth of vines everywhere. This old structure sits...

We are living in the age of extraordinary horror films. The cinematic offerings to satisfy our cravings for a good scare or a story so terrifying it gives us nightmares have taken on many new forms, all exciting — and sometimes challenging. With the 2021 Sundance Film Festival wrapping up, let’s acknowledge that the Park City event has consistently been a great launching pad for new genre voices from around the world (Check out the AMC+ collection of past Sundance winners and festival favorites). Movies that begin their journey there go on to haunt audiences and often reshape our perception of the genre.
In the robust library of AMC+, you can see quite clearly how horror is no longer limited to studio-made films. In indie auteurs’ hands, horror has become the vehicle for stories with distinct points of view. And there are even non-fiction efforts that dig deeper into the significance and craft of revered classics.

"What do you think it says about us as a society that the bad guys are always more fun?" Different Duck Films has released an official trailer for an indie horror-thriller anthology film called Immortal, which premiered at the Screamfest Horror Festival last year. It's written, directed and produced by Rob Margolies, featuring a star-studded cast headlined by Tony Todd, Dylan Baker, Robin Bartlett, Samm Levine, Vanessa Lengies, and Agnes Bruckner. "Thrown into the face of death only to emerge unharmed, the characters of Immortal are left staring at eternity in the face with uncertainty and fear like they've never imagined." A chilling horror anthology film told in four chapters, Immortal boasts career-best performances from a cast that also includes Mario Van Peebles, Lindsay Mushett, and Jason Stuart. Yes this has a solid cast, but the segments seem quite derivative - stories about immortality, another game of hunt-or-be-hunted in the woods,...

"It's him again, isn't it?" Quiver Distribution has revealed the official Us trailer for an indie thriller titled The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson, which is indeed about the exact stated listed in the title. This is director Daniel Farrands' follow-up to his other murder films: The Amityville Murders and The Haunting of Sharon Tate. This was actually once known as The Haunting of Nicole Brown Simpson before they changed the title. Inspired by true events, the film follows O.J. Simpson's ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson in the last days leading up to her tragic death on June 12th, 1994, as seen from her point of view. The film stars Mena Suvari as Nicole, with Drew Roy, Nick Stahl, Taryn Manning, & Agnes Bruckner. What may be most surprising about Katja von Garnier’s music doc Forever and a Day, a contemporary portrait of iconic hard rock/heavy metal German band The Scorpions, is to note their five decades worth of musical presence. Formed by Rudolf Schenker in 1965, the band allowed Garnier to tag along as they embarked on what was meant to be their Final Sting tour, an eighteen month stretch of performances which were set to wrap up in Munich. However, based on the jubilant reaction as they performed, the band decided to then extend the tour. The result becomes a ruminative pondering on the nature of an artist’s retirement and what happens when creative outlets are eventually restrained. In between playdates, Garnier completes a historical portrait of the band’s ups and downs throughout the past fifty years.

Horror director Lucky McKee unfortunately remains one of those unknown, peripheral genre names, mostly thanks to a number of compromised or abandoned projects following his formidable 2002 debut, May. Over the past several years, he’s made headlines for 2011’s The Woman (another underrated gem from his filmography), and most recently the co-directed effort All Cheerleaders Die in 2013, an expansion of his 2001 short film, which is more or less the comically inclined romp you’d assume it to be. Prizing complex female characterizations, usually featuring muse Angela Bettis, McKee’s twisted visions, though few and far between, are enjoyable and entertaining, usually enhanced by a bit of subtext. About a decade ago, McKee’s sophomore feature, The Woods, would finally land on DVD in the Us following a limited festival circuit run, treated to a torturous release platform despite featuring several notable cast members. ABC’s Once Upon a Time did a very smart thing leading into the two-week Easter break: It answered several burning questions/loose threads, and in doing so set things up nicely for the final salvo of Season 4.

This week on ABC’s Once Upon a Time, “The Voice: Battle Rounds” took on new meaning as Hook labored to get back Ursula’s happy ending, while August’s return boded well for the heroes.
For starters, this was the best episode of Season 4B thus far. The flashback story was fresh, unpredictable and related directly to the present-day goings on. Meanwhile in Storybrooke, Hook’s deal with Ursula offered up a few twists, including the return of Ariel (in a manner that tracked decently enough, save for one quibble) and the welcome arrival of Ernie Hudson’s Poseidon...

All eyes will be on Annalise Keating and her increasingly jittery students on tonight’s How to Get Away With Murder (ABC, 10/9c), and the truth about Sam Keating’s death could become as poorly concealed as his recently unearthed remains.
“The house of cards comes tumbling down,” said Katie Findlay, who plays Rebecca — one of seven people (along with the Keating Four, Annalise and her right-hand man Frank) involved in the death, disposal and coverup in question. “Everything falls apart humongously, and you see who’s doing what and who’s been lying. Rebecca is all about staying out of jail.

Hurricane Beverly blows into Nashville this week, and the damage she leaves in her wake is considerable, irrevocable and really, really annoying.
Even Gunnar at his Season 1-iest could not evoke as much of my ire as Scarlett’s mom does when she shows up and acts exactly as you’d expect of someone who once literally drove her daughter mad.
On the plus side, even Deacon’s irritating sister — and the setback in his illness in which she becomes involved — can’t push him into the pit of despair I feared he’d call home once his diagnosis set in.

Throughout the month of December, we will be highlighting a film a day that has some tie into the holiday somehow. Some titles will be obvious, others won’t be. Some films will be good and, again, others won’t be. However, we think all titles are worth your time whether to give you chills inside your home or to make you drink more eggnog until you puke laughing. We also tried not to go with the more popular titles as well.
The Holidays are supposed to be full of joy and merriment. Lights on timers, trees and garland hanging as far as the eye can see. There are more Horror movies set during Christmas than any other time of year. It’s about time someone told which titles you should want waiting under the Christmas tree.
After the death of her mother, Nicole (Agnes Bruckner) goes missing a few days before the funeral.

Murky Contract Part Deux: Hallam & Horvath Continue to Stir a Slushy Cauldron
A vaguely administered narrative continues to plague the concept of what comprises The Pact 2, the sequel to Nicholas McCarthy’s 2012 first film, which had been based on his original short. Directing duo Dallas Richard Hallam and Patrick Horvath take over the directorial and screenwriting reigns for this revolution. However, despite sharing the title and star of the predecessor, there’s little to significantly link this to the skimpy entrails of the first chapter, itself a film criticized for ambience but faltering in nearly every other department. This latest installment suffers from the same derivative issues, though correctly straddles a menacing tone, while at the same time offering up a committed cast this time around.
June Abbott (Camilla Luddington) is a young woman plagued by nightmares. This should come as no surprise considering her grisly occupation as someone who cleans up crime scenes.
