Marcia Cross has reprised her iconic role as Bree Van de Kamp from the ABC comedy-drama in another surreal Series Mania promo video, two years after she appeared at the popular French co-production and TV content festival. The fest has made it something of a tradition to release a promo featuring major TV stars in silly scenarios over recent years.

The new parody video begins a tracking shot of a neighbourhood that looks identical to the Desperate Housewives area, with a French voiceover saying, “since Bree Van de Kamp had moved to Wisteria Lille, she had secretly developed an addiction to TV series.” The character is then seen with a trademark wine in one hand and a remote control in the other.

Desperate Housewives showrunner Marc Cherry knows that Real Housewives may have been inspired by his ABC show, but he isn’t upset about the Bravo franchise’s success.

The writer-producer revealed to People that he understands why the Real Housewives production team developed the show, which premiered in 2006 in Orange County, California, following the success of Desperate Housewives, which ran for eight seasons from 2004 to 2012.

“They didn’t crib my name, to be fair to them,” Cherry said about the Bravo franchise in a story published Thursday. “They just used the word. Our show came out, and they capitalized on that. And you know what? That’s the capitalistic system.”

The showrunner added that people often confuse the two shows because the Real Housewives franchise “continues to be out there,” producing new series and spinoffs. Cherry lists Tommy Tune as one of the celebrities who accidentally swapped the two series in conversation.

Here’s a fun fact to blow your minds: Yes, technically, Knots Landing is a spin-off from mega-hit Dallas. Gary Ewing is the middle brother of Jr and Bobby Ewing, who made one appearance on the Mother Ship show, played by David Ackroyd before Ted Shackelford took over the role for the next decade-plus.

But the original Kl concept pre-dated Dallas. It was supposed to be an American version of the Swedish series Scenes From a Marriage by Ingemar Bergman. That series didn’t get picked up. The Darren Star-created night-time soap followed the complicated lives of several 20-somethings who lived in a Los Angeles apartment complex called Melrose Place, where the drama included a bombing, a drowning and a “Dynasty”-esque pool fight.

Locklear played advertising exec Amanda Woodward, whose addition to the show late in the first season helped boost ratings at the time. Zuniga played Jo Reynolds on the series from 1992 to 1999 while Leighton played Sydney Andrews, sister of Josie Bassett’s character Jane.

Marcia Cross, Bryan Batt and Ron Canada starred in the opening night of the Off-Broadway play, Pay the Writer. The first performance of the comedy-drama was held in benefit of the Writers Guild of America, which is currently on strike.

Producer Sandy Marshall said the actors wanted to show support for the writers’ union because “without their members, there would be no stories to experience and no escape from the difficulties of the human experience that are often cast upon us. Simply, the artist must support the art.”

The plot of Pay the Writer follows literary agent Bruston Fischer (Batt) and his complex friendships with his most successful client, Cyrus Holt (Canada), and Holt’s ex-wife Lana (Cross). Marcia Cross, Bryan Batt and Ron Canada will star in the world premiere of the play Pay the Writer, with the first performance set as a benefit for the Writers Guild.

The comedy-drama, written by novelist Tawni O’Dell (Back Roads) will play Off-Broadway at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theater at the Pershing Square Signature Center for a seven-week engagement starting Aug. 13. Karen Carpenter (Love, Loss, and What I Wore) directs.

The story of Pay the Writer follows a well-known literary agent Bruston Fischer (played by Batt) and his complicated relationship with his best friend, Cyrus Holt (played by Canada) who is also his most successful client, as well as Holt’s ex-wife Lana, played by Cross.

The production describes the play saying: “Bruston Fischer is a young gay man suffering from social persecution while trying to make it in publishing when he first meets Cyrus Holt some 40 years earlier.

“Succession” is no stranger to the Emmys. A two-time Best Drama Series winner, the HBO show from creator Jesse Armstrong is gunning for a third win in the category for its fourth and final season, which concluded in May. But it could easily pick up a number of other Emmys along the way. Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin are nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, marking the first time ever that the Lead Actor category has seen three actors from the same series simultaneously receive a nod.

Succession raked in an impressive 27 nods for its fourth and final season on Wednesday morning when nominations for the 75th annual Emmy Awards were announced by Yvette Nicole Brown and Television Academy Chair Frank Scherma. The series received 14 acting nominations, as well as Outstanding Drama Series.

Creator Jesse Armstrong was also recognized for writing “Connor’s Wedding,” and Mark Mylod, Lorene Scafaria, and Andrij Parekh all received nominations for directing.

“I don’t know if we could do the show today,” she said. “I think we’d get cancelled. I mean, not cancelled on TV, but like cancelled in culture, because it was so groundbreaking. We said and did so many things that were shocking at the time.”

Despite that, Longoria said she wouldn’t mind a reboot. “I’d be the first one to sign up. I’d probably be the only one.”

Brian Cox has submitted his performance as Logan Roy, the recently departed Waystar Royco CEO on HBO’s “Succession,” into the lead actor (drama) category. Cox’s team exclusively confirmed to Variety that the actor’s iconic turn as the bold father and media mogul will be considered alongside his two co-stars, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin, who opted to switch into the category for the show’s fourth and final season.

Cox’s character died in the third episode of this season, “Connor’s Wedding,” which left many pundits speculating the Scottish actor, who received two previous noms in the lead drama actor field, would downgrade to either the supporting actor or guest categories.
