The much-anticipated Lanterns series from James Gunn‘s DC Studios has officially begun production, and if that news wasn’t good enough, we also got a simple but awesome first look at our two main protagonists, Hal Jordan, and John Stewart, played respectively by Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre.
The upcoming series is said to be a grounded detective drama series that will explore the darker sides of the DC Universe. In the series, we will see a veteran, Hal Jordan, teaming up with John Stewart, who’s a bit of a newcomer to the Green Lantern Corps, to solve a seemingly ordinary murder case that turns into a massive threat as the story progresses.

Photograph by John P. Johnson/HBO The Warner Bros. lot in Burbank is glowing green as production gets underway for HBO’s highly awaited drama series, Lanterns. This fresh adaptation is set to reimagine the beloved DC property Green Lantern, trading out large-scale space conflicts for an intense, grounded storyline. While the Green Lantern Corps is known for its intergalactic exploits, this series blends their legendary mythos with the tense intrigue of a crime thriller, delivering something truly distinct in the superhero genre. The official synopsis offers a tantalizing glimpse of what’s to come, describing Stewart and Jordan as “intergalactic cops” tangled up in a mysterious,...

Although word is that the show will be less about green-lad aliens flying through the air and more of a grounded drama where the two main characters just happen to have powers. Comparisons to True Detective, another HBO show, have been made. “From the start, our driving force has been to deliver a layered drama – rooted in nuanced storytelling and rich world building – that balances tension and mystery with honest, authentic emotion," showrunner Chris Mundy said in a statement. HBO‘s Lanterns comes to light with the first image from the highly anticipated DC series, featuring Aaron Pierre (John Stewart) and Kyle Chandler (Hal Jordan) for an earthbound story inspired by the beloved DC comics universe. Today’s image shows Pierre and Chandler walking down a desolate road dressed in civvies. DC’s Lanterns follows “new recruit John Stewart (Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.” Interestingly, the show from creators Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof has True Detective vibes, making for a curious adaptation of the traditionally interstellar action comic book series.
Before you start manifesting tables to flip, the image has one element familiar to the legendary series. Looking closely at Chandler’s hand, you’ll spot a green power ring, the object that, once changed by Green Lantern’s Light,...

HBO’s Lanterns has started production and released a first look at its two stars in character — though not in Green Lantern Corps regalia.
The first photo of stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler shows the two in regular clothing walking down an empty road. That’s in keeping with the description of the show, based on the long-running DC Comics characters, as following “new recruit John Stewart (Pierre) and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.” The show, from creators Chris Mundy, Tom King and Damon Lindelof, has also been described as having a True Detective vibe.
There is one hint in the first photo that Pierre and Chandler are part of a superhero story — the Green Lantern Corps ring on Hal Jordan’s finger.

If you're a fan of Mindy Kaling and are a Netflix subscriber, there's a bit of good and bad news for you going into the end of February 2025. No, her modern classic teen comedy Never Have I Ever isn't going anywhere (thankfully), but the star's eponymous sitcom The Mindy Project will be departing Netflix by the end of the month. Grab a bear claw and lie on the floor in distress!
As a comedy series that originally aired on Fox, then moved to Hulu as an original when the streamer saved it from cancellation, and was produced by NBCUniversal, it was surprising when the underrated workplace rom-com landed on Netflix back in January 2023. It was a pleasant surprise nonetheless as lots of new viewers had the chance to discover the series.

DC’s Lanterns is scheduled for an early 2026 release, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated shows.
The series will feature a talented cast, including Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Ulrich Thomsen, Garret Dillahunt, and Poorna Jagannathan. These actors bring a range of skills that could make the show a standout in the DC universe.
We’re all waiting to see how DC handles the Lanterns story. It’s expected to bring a fresh twist to the classic Lantern Corps, and with such a diverse cast, the show could introduce some new dynamics.
The focus will, as we know, be on an Earth-based mystery through which we will also explore the relationship between the two Lanterns. With Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre in lead roles, we can expect strong performances.

A couple of weeks ago, the Peacock streaming service announced that they had cancelled the James Wan-produced series Teacup after just one season. Now, another one bites the dust. Variety reports that Peacock has also decided to cancel the coming-of-age Satanic Panic thriller series Hysteria! after just one season.
Written and executive produced by Matthew Scott Kane, Hysteria! explored America’s dark history of mass hysteria through the shocking story of the teenage Satanic Panic. The series follows a group of 1980s high school misfits as they exploit the growing hysteria around teen occult activity. Here’s the full official synopsis: When a beloved varsity quarterback disappears during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s, a struggling high school heavy metal band of outcasts realize they can capitalize on the town’s sudden interest in the occult by building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, until a bizarre series of murders,...

We feared this day would come, and now it’s finally here. A new horror series that premiered last year has been axed, and it didn't deserve to meet such an untimely end. It had such potential, and it sucks that we won’t get to see where the story could have gone. Sadly, Peacock has pulled the plug on the horror comedy Hysteria! after only one season, and now fans are left to mourn what could have been.
This disappointing news comes only a month after it was revealed that Peacock had canceled another one of its new horror shows from last year. It was the sci-fi horror Teacup. The streaming giant has never come out and shared why it decided to cancel this series, but low viewership is believed to have played a significant role in the decision. Peacock continues its cancellation streak with its coming-of-age Satanic Panic thriller series “Hysteria!” after one season, Variety reports. The news arrives just weeks after the streamer canceled sci-fi horror series “Teacup“.

The Peacock horror thriller series “Hysteria!” has been canceled after just one season, Variety has learned exclusively.
The show aired its one and only season at the streamer in October 2024. It had originally been ordered to series in August 2022 and began production in 2023, but was forced to shut down after filming just a few episodes due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes. It eventually resumed production in late 2023.
Peacock does not release viewership data for its shows, so it is difficult to gauge exactly how many people watched “Hysteria!” However, the show did not make an appearance on the weekly Nielsen Top 10 streaming charts upon its release. It was well-received by critics though, holding a 91% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The official series description states:

ABC’s High Potential episode 11’s case of the week involves a deathbed murder confession. An elderly dying man asks his family to record his confession and then claims he murdered his son-in-law, Barry, 10 years ago by pushing him down the stairs.
Lieutenant Selena Soto (Judy Reyes) gets a surprise visit from Lt. Melon (Garret Dillahunt) and another detective, there to brag that they’ve got a confession and closed a cold case. The detectives and Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) watch the action from outside Soto’s office and can only speculate about what’s going on since they brought champagne.
They drop off the champagne, and Soto slams a chair into a desk after they leave. She’s pissed they solved the Bucket Lane murder and that it turned out George Donovan was the murderer. Selena...

We've been hearing that production was scheduled to begin on the Dcu Lanterns series at some point before the end of January, and one of the show's principal cast members has now confirmed as much by sharing some behind-the-scenes photos to social media.
Though it doesn't look like shooting has actually commenced just yet, Garret Dillahunts Instagram Stories images reveal that Tuesday marked the first day of camera tests.
Not too surprisingly, the photos don't show very much, but it looks like Kyle Chandler (Hal Jordan) and Kelly Macdonald (Sheriff Kerry) were also on set.

Production for James Gunn’s highly anticipated DC Universe series “Lanterns” is picking up speed, with the show set to bring a unique approach to superhero storytelling. The series will follow multiple Green Lantern characters as they investigate an intergalactic mystery, breaking away from traditional superhero narratives.
Actress Poorna Jagannathan recently shared her excitement about the project during an interview with Collider. Despite having limited experience with science fiction, she praised the script’s exceptional quality. “This is the first script that I’ve read that I understand why there’s an NDA,” Jagannathan said. “Everything is so insane – it’s the best writing I have ever read.”
The series will star Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, focusing on the Green Lantern Corps’ role as cosmic law enforcement. This detective-style approach aims to attract both dedicated DC fans and viewers who might typically avoid superhero content.

There were early rumors that Sinestro would be a part of the Dcu Lanterns series, but when casting got underway and some plot details came to light, it was generally assumed that the Green Lantern Corps' most prolific and recognizable villain wouldn't be introduced in the first season.
Now, Deadline is reporting that Danish actor Ulrich Thomsen is set to play Hal Jordan's arch-nemesis, Thaal Sinestro, in the show.
This take on the character is described as "a former Green Lantern who turned rogue and is ruthless yet undeniably charming. Sinestro’s manipulative nature drives his enduring obsession with his former mentee, Hal Jordan."
Thomsen will be joined by Kyle Chandler as Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart. Kelly MacDonald is set to play the female lead (believed to be Jordan's love-interest), Sheriff Kerry, with Garret Dillahunt on board as the villainous William Macon, "a self-righteous, conspiracy-minded man...

Deadline reports that Ulrich Thomsen has been tapped to play Sinestro in Lanterns, the upcoming live-action Green Lantern series from HBO, Warner Bros. Television, and DC Studios.
I know the Danish actor best from his role as Kai Proctor in Cinemax’s Banshee, and if you’ve seen that series, you’ll know he’s quite adept at playing a sinister villain. He’s also played roles in The Blacklist, Counterpoint, The New Pope, and more. You may also recognize him from movies such as The World Is Not Enough, Kingdom of Heaven, and The Thing.

ScreenRant is proud to present an exclusive sneak peek of High Potential season 1, episode 10, "Chutes and Murders." Airing on ABC on Tuesday, January 21 at 9 p.m. Et, the new installment will see Morgan and Karadec investigate a particularly bizarre murder scene. The official synopsis reads: "A nanny is found bludgeoned to death in the park. Elsewhere, Morgan interferes when Elliot admits to not being invited to his classmate’s party."
The clip opens with Morgan trying to convince Karadec to taste her sandwich at the diner, while the detective emphasizes the importance of being discreet during their stakeout. In typical Morgan fashion, she counters his reprimand with humor, and he appears unamused. Before the banter can go any further, Karadec spots their suspect buying a newspaper across the street. Check out ScreenRant's full sneak peek above.

Back in October, a rumor that Josh Brolin was in talks to play Hal Jordan in the upcoming HBO Lanterns series did the rounds, with the trades seemingly backing up the initial report when it was announced that Kyle Chandler had landed the part.
Brolin - who is no stranger to superhero roles having previously played Thanos, Cable and Jonah Hex - would later confirm that he was in negotiations for the role. The Dune Part Two star declined to go into specifics, instead praising the man who will suit-up as the veteran ring-slinging hero in the Dcu series.
"You know what? Green Lantern didn't work out, but that's okay," Brolin told ComicBook.com when asked if he turned down the role because he was holding out for a better DC character. "It's working out. Who is it going to be, Kyle Chandler? I love him as an actor, I think he's wonderful,...

With production on DC Studios' Lanterns HBO/Max series set to commence very soon, we may have our first glimpse of the look star Kyle Chandler will be rocking as veteran ring-slinger, Hal Jordan.
The Friday Night Lights alum posed for a photo with a fan that was shared on social media, and, as we expected, it looks like Chandler's take on Jordan will be inspired by the Earth One version of the character from Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko's 2018 series.
Of course, there's always a chance Chandler will completely change his appearance prior to filming, but since the actor doesn't usually wear a full beard between roles, we'd day there's a good chance this is indeed his Hal Jordan look.
Chandler will star alongside Aaron Pierre, who will play John Stewart in the show.

Friday Night Lights is getting the reboot treatment, and Deadline reports that Peacock has scooped up the project after a competitive bidding war with Netflix.
This new iteration will “be set following a devastating hurricane, when a rag tag high school football team and their damaged, interim coach make an unlikely bid for a Texas High School State Championship and become a beacon of light for their town.“
The franchise is based on the non-fiction novel Friday Night Lights: A Town, A Team and a Dream by H.G. Bissinger. Peter Berg directed a feature film based on the novel in 2004, which starred Billy Bob Thornton, Lucas Black, Derek Luke, Garrett Hedlund, Jay Hernandez, and more. Two years later, Berg developed the acclaimed TV series of the same name. Earlier this year, the news broke that Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) had landed the role of John Stewart in the Dcu Lanterns series, with Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) officially confirmed to star as Hal Jordan around the same time.
Pierre was always a fan-favorite pick to play Stewart, but several sources had reported that fellow frontrunner Stephan James (Babes) was the studio's top choice.
Pierre shared a brief response on social media when his casting was announced, but has now addressed his upcoming Dcu debut in a little more detail during an interview with ComicBook.com.

Warning: there are Spoilers for every movie mentioned in this articleThe horror genre is alive and well, thanks to the wonderfully sadistic Art the Clown in his latest sequel Terrifier 3, plus other great franchise movies such as the surprisingly humorous Smile 2. One of the best elements of the horror genre is not just the actual frights and scares that audiences get from the kills and suspense, it's also when there's a plot twist that no one saw coming.
Sometimes, these surprises work extremely well. For example, when John Kramer rises from the dead in 2004's Saw, or when the hag-like creature appears in Barbarian from 2022. They were great plot twists that we never saw coming. However, despite the best intentions of all involved, there are many horror movies with a plot twist that's so obvious, that when it happens it's a let-down rather than a horrific shock.

One of ABC's newest shows this season, High Potential, is off to a very promising start. High Potential follows Kaitlin Olson's Morgan Guillory, a former cleaning lady, who joins the Major Crimes Unit of the LAPD as a consultant. Morgan, a single mom of three kids, is considered a High Intellectual Potential (Hip) with an Iq of 160, which makes her the ideal helper to solve crimes.
Morgan's partner in crime, Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), balances Morgan's "act first, think later" nature with his "by the book" attitude and unshakable moral code. While Karadec and Morgan's professional relationship continues to develop, their dynamic leaves room for sparks to fly further down the line. However, Tom (Jd Pardo), a janitor for the LAPD who has undeniable chemistry with Morgan, was recently introduced. Tom connects with Morgan because of their shared grit, similar occupations, and flirty nature.

The ending of Michael Bay's Ambulance showcases why the 2022 action thriller is still creating conversations. You're used to us sharing MCU rumours on a regular basis but, for the most part, the Dcu isn't the subject of quite so many leaks. Then, there's the small matter of DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn debunking them as quickly as they're reported!
Well, we have some Dcu updates from Nexus Point News' @ApocHorseman for you today. The biggest revelation is that The Authority is reportedly being reworked as an animated feature; if accurate, this is a huge change but one which makes sense given how obscure those characters are (and how positive early word on Creature Commandos has been).
Talking of team-ups, it's said that early plans for Teen Titans call for the lineup to be the same as the animated series. That means we're getting Robin (the scooper admits he doesn't know which one), Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and Cyborg.

Lanterns has so far assembled a very impressive cast, with Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre set to lead the series as Hal Jordan and John Stewart. In terms of supporting players, DC Studios has turned to talented stars like Kelly Macdonald and Garret Dillahunt.
Now, the upcoming HBO series has added another impressive name, with Poorna Jagannathan (Never Have I Ever) set to play Lanterns' "Zoe."
She doesn't appear to be based on anyone from the comics but is described as effortlessly confident and poised in any setting, even those where she stands out. She is every bit as composed and cunning as the influential men around her.
Interestingly, Zoe is expected to be John's love interest, with Macdonald set to play Hal's love interest, Sheriff Kerry. Dillahunt plays modern cowboy William Macon, though it's possible these are all codenames to cover up who they've really been cast as.

Poorna Jagannathan (The Night Of) has joined the cast of HBO’s Lanterns series in a heavily recurring role.
The live-action Green Lantern series is said to have a True Detective vibe as it “follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.” Jagannathan will play Zoe, who is described as “effortlessly confident and poised in any setting, even those where she stands out. She is every bit as composed and cunning as the influential men around her.” It’s also rumoured that she may be a love interest for John Stewart.
Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) is set to star in Lanterns as Hal Jordan alongside Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) as John Stewart. Kelly MacDonald (Boardwalk Empire) will also star as Sheriff Kerry, a “no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town.

HBO’s Lanterns is expanding its cast with the addition of Poorna Jagannathan.
The Never Have I Ever star will have a recurring part in the show from DC Studios and Warner Bros. TV. Her character, Zoe, is described as an effortlessly confident and poised woman in any setting, and as composed and cunning as the influential men around her.
Lanterns is based on DC’s long-running Green Lantern comics and stars Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as, respectively, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, two of the best-known characters in the comics’ long history. HBO picked up Lanterns to series in June after years of start-and-stop development.
While the Green Lantern comics are galactic in scope, Lanterns will be a terrestrial story with a noirish vibe. Its logline reads, “The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery...

Bruce Campbell Discusses His “Hysteria!” Character Arc and Reveals What He’d Like to See in Season 2

Peacock’s coming-of-age thriller series “Hysteria!” plunged its small Michigan town into full-blown Satanic Panic. Thanks to its teen protagonists and an atypically sympathetic police chief, order is mostly restored in Happy Hollow by season’s end.
Chief Dandridge (Bruce Campbell) had a particularly stressful arc in showrunners Matthew Scott Kane (Stitchers) and David Goodman’s (The Orville) inaugural season; the observant yet patient small-town lawman nearly succumbed to the hysteria himself and rallied to survive a near-death confrontation with The Reverend (Garret Dillahunt). The finale wraps up the season’s overarching questions, yet leaves lingering signs that The Reverend and Tracy Whitehead’s (Anna Camp) devious machinations still have roots in Happy Hollow.
Considering that Campbell plays his cop character with unconventional kindness and is billed as a guest star, not series regular, where does that leave the actor regarding the future of the series?

A scene from ‘High Potential’ season 1 episode 7 (Disney/Mitch Hasseth)
ABC’s High Potential episode seven, the fall finale, is set on Yes Day. What’s that? It’s the day when Morgan (Kaitlin Olson) has to say yes to Ava’s plans on how to spend her day of work at the LAPD. One of the items on the list is visiting her mom’s work and while she pets a dog, Tom (Jd Pardo) confirms Morgan’s number on the window written in orange chips dust was illegible. They flirt as he jokes that wound up calling an elderly woman on accident.
Ava (Amirah J) is shocked her mom doesn’t have a desk while everyone else does. Just as Ava’s taking a restroom break, a woman takes Lt. Melon (Garret Dillahunt) hostage and warns everyone not to move. She claims a nearby box is a bomb,...

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: High Potential continues to raise the stakes with every episode. “One of Us” was a nonstop roller coaster ride of thrills and almost kills.
The writers behind this series are brilliant sadists for starting the episode on such a sweet note. The kids were left out in “Hangover” but were brought back in a big way.
The central theme of High Potential is family. It’s been the driving force behind Morgan and almost every case the cops have handled since Miss Smarty Pants started.
(Mitch Hasseth/Disney)
It definitely tracks that the midseason finale would put what matters most to Morgan on the line. And with a captor on her way to motherhood herself, no less.
