Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is one of the most highly anticipated movies of 2014, but the high-budget prequel/sequel would never have been possible without the original film series from the 1960s and 1970s. The Planet of the Apes Blu-ray features multiple commentary options, including a recorded track with actors Roddy McDowall, Kim Hunter, and Natalie Trundy, as well as make-up artist John Chambers. Spliced together by existing interviews, this is more of a voice-over through the movie. To augment the commentary, there’s a text commentary provided by Eric Greene, author of the book Planet of the Apes as American Myth. That’s enough to shake a fist at. Planet of the Apes (1968) Commentators: Roddy McDowall (actor), Kim Hunter (actor), Natalie Trundy (actor), John Chambers (make-up artist), plus excerpts from Planet of the Apes as American Myth author Eric Greene’s text commentary 1. Producer Arthur Jacobs secured the rights to Pierre Boulle’s 1963 book...

First off, I have to tell you that this page may load slow. We're making an awful lot of calls to the Amazon Api here, and that's bound to monkey with things. If you have no idea what that means... it's shiny. Please note also that, for the same reason, you may find, depending on traffic, that not all of the Amazon details will load properly. I apologize for that, it's just the nature of the beast, and the fact that the Api wasn't really meant for such things. If you refresh, it will probably fix.
You may have heard me mention this giveaway quite a while ago, and it's taken me a long time to figure out what sort of format to put things in, and I kept added things. Eventually it became too much to really give any kind of run down on the items, so I decided...

This Friday sees the release of the first "Planet of the Apes" film in a decade, "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" starring James Franco. We'll have our review of the film up on Friday, but to help set the mood, here is a revised and updated version of a feature we first brought you in 2008 on the 40th anniversary of the original "Planet of the Apes." Below you'll find a guide to all six previous movies, with synopses, spoilers, continuity errors, and a celebration of all the high-minded social commentary and low-brow schlocky ape masks that make the "Apes" films one of the most satisfying of all sci-fi franchises.
Please note: Most "Planet of the Apes" films have a "shocking" twist that everyone at this point already knows. However, if you have somehow extricated yourself from forty years of pop culture references, by all means be wary of Spoilers ahead.

No surprise here, I still really enjoy this movie and now having it on Blu-ray is an added bonus, even if the new special features don't particularly sweeten the deal. Fox is debuting the entire Planet of the Apes original franchise films on Blu-ray and you can buy each of them individually or as one mega collection as 2008 is the 40th anniversary of the original film that started it all, and this set and its features are out to remind you of what kind of impact the film had, especially on marketing, which seems to be a major point they wanted to get across here. Before I say anything more about the features I will say this film is one I can see easily polarizing audiences as well as those, like myself, that agree with both sides of the conversation but manage to enjoy the film just as much for...
