Diary in hand and probably spilling chardonnay on it, Bridget Jones is returning nearly after a decade. She is older, perhaps wiser, but seemingly just as awkward. Whether you’ve been a Bridget fan since 2001 or are discovering this classic right now, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is shaping up to be one of the bigger rom-com events of 2025.

Unlike previous films, Mad About the Boy will focus on Bridget as a single mom in her fifties. The movie’s screenplay was written by Helen Fielding, the original author of the Bridget Jones books, with help from Abi Morgan and Dan Mazer. Michael Morris, credited for his chops on Better Call Saul, is directing.

A fourth Bridget Jones film is on the way, and some returning faces as well as new famous ones have joined the latest installment in the rom-com franchise.

Renée Zellweger, who first brought the titular character to life in Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) will return to reprise her role in the film. The news of the fourth film first arrived in April 2024, and a cast has been rounded out. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is the working title for the upcoming film.

Following a rather quiet 2024 thanks to last year's Hollywood strikes, 2025 is shaping up to be a much bigger - and busier - year for movies.

Disney has dropped the teaser trailer for Pixar’s sci-fi comedy, “Elio”. It’s a celestial coming-of-age adventure with eye-popping intergalactic aliens and phosphorescent-looking environments. It’s about 11-year-old Elio (Yonas Kibreab), a one-eyed, alien-obsessed social misfit, who beams up to an inter-planetary paradise, where he gets mistaken as Earth’s leader. He has a blast forming new bonds while navigating an intergalactic crisis without being found out.

“Elio” is produced by Mary Alice Drumm (associate producer of “Coco”) and directed by Madeline Sharafian (the “Burrow” short) and Domee Shi (“Turning Red”), who replaced Adrian Molina (“Coco” co-director) mid-production.

“Elio” was to mark Molina’s directorial debut and was a personal story. But story problems ensued, and the original release was delayed until June 13, 2025, in part because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. This marked the first time that Pete Docter, Pixar’s chief creative officer, had to replace a director during his tenure.

The long awaited fourth film is called Mad About The Boy, adapted from Fielding’s 2013 novel of the same name, and it’s now far away at all. As well as a returning Renee Zellweger, the cast also includes Isla Fisher, Josette Simon, Nico Parker and Leila Farzad.

Michael Morris directed the film from a screenplay by Fielding, with contributions from screenwriters Abi Morgan and Dan Mazer.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy going direct to streaming is only the second biggest sequel development revealed Tuesday.

Peacock has announced that the fourth installment in the Renée Zellweger film franchise will bypass theaters in the United States. Following an international theatrical release on Wednesday, Feb. 12, the sequel will land Stateside on Thursday, Feb. 13, where it will stream exclusively on Peacock.

Bridget’s back, and she’s still trying to figure things out.

The first trailer for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy has been released, and Renée Zellweger’s Bridget is still looking for love as she comes to terms with the tragedy of losing Mark Darcy (Colin Firth). Yep, you read that correctly, Darcy is no more and the trailer serves up the bad news straight away.

Still, the only way is up for our Bridget as she gets on with life, and the prospect of not one but two possible romances. There’s the hunky and age-appropriate Mr. Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a teacher at Bridget’s children’s school and the wild card of Roxster (Leo Woodall), the youthful bit of rough that should be a red flag.

The American Film Market, which runs Nov. 5 – 10, kicks off in new digs as the event relocates from its long-standing base in Santa Monica to the bright lights of Las Vegas. Andrew Cumming’s Stone Age thriller Out Of Darkness leads the film nominations for the 2024 Bafta Scotland Awards, nominated in three categories including best feature film.

The film, which follows a gang of early humans who suspect a malevolent being is hunting them down, also received nominations for actor film for Kit Young, and actress film for Safia Oakley-Green.

Once known as Dune: The Sisterhood, the TV series Dune: Prophecy, which serves as a prequel to the Dune feature films directed by Denis Villeneuve, started filming in November of 2022, then underwent quite a shake-up in 2023 when the director of the first two episodes, Johan Renck (who executive produced and directed all five episodes of the HBO limited series Chernobyl) decided to leave the project over creative issues, then Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) – who had been cast as one of the show’s lead characters – followed him out the door. Everything has been worked out since then, with Dune: Prophecy on track for a November premiere on both HBO and the Max streaming service… and now we’ve learned that the promotions will begin at New York Comic Con, where attendees will get to experience both a panel and a fan experience.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” star Robert Aramayo is set to play a Tourette’s Syndrome campaigner in upcoming biopic titled “I Swear.”

Directed by Kirk Jones (“My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2”), who is returning for his first feature film in eight years, “I Swear” tells the story of Tourette’s Syndrome campaigner, John Davidson. Principal photography recently wrapped in Scotland.

“I Swear” follows Davidson’s journey with Tourette’s through his troubled teens and early adulthood, having been diagnosed at 15 years old in 1980s Britain – a time when the condition was little known and entirely misunderstood.

“Targeted as insane by his peers, Davidson lives with a condition few have ever witnessed, as he attempts to live a ‘normal’ life against the odds,” reads the synopsis.

“You dabbled with aliens,” declares creature that had been posing as an alien hunter named Victor Kennedy. “Now meet the genuine article.”

It’s hard to put into words just how upsetting that genuine article is. Unsightly grey flesh drips from his shoulders and head, so that he resembles more a sentient glob of moldy yogurt than an actual person. Comedian Peter Kay makes his character even more upsetting by bearing his teeth and sticking out his tongue. And that’s before revealing that the faces of his victims protrude from his body still screaming for help, including a character noted for her sweetness stuck to his bottom.

Somehow, the worst part of the monster, dubbed the Abzorbaloff, is his behind-the-scenes origin. The Abzorbaloff design came from a child who won a contest through the long-running kid’s show Blue Peter.

What Do We Know About Dune Prophecy? More than you may think. With the second part of Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic science fiction novel a critical and box office success, it is going to be several years before we see the next feature film in the series, Dune Messiah. “Wedding Crashers” star Isla Fisher, Nico Parker (“How To Train Your Dragon”), Josette Simon (“Anatomy of a Scandal”) and Leila Farzad (“Black Mirror: Joan is Awful”) have joined the cast of “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” which premieres on Valentine’s Day next year in theaters internationally and on Peacock in the U.S.

Gemma Jones and Jim Broadbent return to play Bridget’s mom and dad. Sarah Solemani, Sally Phillips, Shirley Henderson and James Callis will return to reprise their roles as Bridget’s friends. Neil Pearson, Joanna Scanlan and Celia Imrie also return for this latest installment in the “Bridget Jones” series. They join stars Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson as well as newcomers Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall.

“Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” is based on the third “Bridget Jones” novel by Helen Fielding and will be the fourth movie in the franchise.

Universal Pictures and Working Title have announced new and returning cast members for Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, the fourth installment of the British-based romantic film comedy series.

Once known as Dune: The Sisterhood, the Max streaming series Dune: Prophecy, which serves as a prequel to the Dune feature films directed by Denis Villeneuve, started filming in November of 2022, then underwent quite a shake-up in 2023 when the director of the first two episodes, Johan Renck (who executive produced and directed all five episodes of the HBO limited series Chernobyl) decided to leave the project over creative issues, then Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) – who had been cast as one of the show’s lead characters – followed him out the door. After the massively successful release of “Dune: Part Two” and the teasing of a third film written and directed by Denis Villeneuve, the literary franchise has landed a TV adaptation with “Dune: Prophecy.” The Max series is inspired by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s novel “Sisterhood of Dune” — a teaser was revealed during the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront presentation, with the six-episode season set to debut this fall on streamer Max.

The official synopsis reads: From the expansive universe of ‘Dune,’ created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), “Dune: Prophecy” follows two Harkonnen sisters (Emily Watson and Olivia Williams) as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.

We recently learned that the long-awaited Max Dune prequel series formerly known as "Dune: The Sisterhood" has been retitled Dune: Prophecy, and the show has now added another key cast member.

Variety reports that legendary Indian actress Tabu has signed on for a recurring role. Her character is named Sister Francesca, who is described as “Strong, intelligent, and alluring, Sister Francesca leaves a lasting impression in her wake. Once a great love of the Emperor, her return to the palace strains the balance of power in the capital.”

Tabu is one of the most celebrated actresses in the history of Indian cinema, having won the National Film Award for best actress twice for Maachis and Chandni Bar. Her English-language credits include Life of Pi, The Namesake, and the BBC miniseries A Suitable Boy.

Dev Patel’s feature directorial debut Monkey Man leads the new films at this weekend’s UK-Ireland box office, starting in 592 cinemas through Universal.

Directed, produced, from a story by and starring Patel, Monkey Man follows an anonymous young man who unleashes a campaign of violence against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother, and continue to systematically victimise the poor and powerless.

Filmed in early 2021, Netflix originally bought worldwide rights to Monkey Man. After Jordan Peele boarded the title as producer through his Monkeypaw Productions, Universal acquired it from Netflix earlier this year. It debuted at SXSW last month.

It’s an original script but has the staginess of a filmed play, set almost entirely in one location: a big fancy house in Hampstead where two uber-successful couples in their 50s are chattering over dinner. I wasn’t totally convinced by the dialogue; some of the lines aren’t especially clever or witty given that this is a bunch of highly intelligent over-achievers. Not enough sparks were flying.

Netflix has revealed the cast for “Department Q” from showrunner Scott Frank (“The Queen’s Gambit”).

The cast is led by Matthew Goode (“The King’s Man”), Chloe Pirrie (“The Queen’s Gambit”), Alexej Manvelov (“Jack Ryan”) Kelly Macdonald (“Line of Duty”) and Leah Byrne (“Call The Midwife”). It also includes Mark Bonnar (“Napoleon”), Shirley Henderson (“Harry Potter”), Jamie Sives (“Guilt”) and Kate Dickie (“Inside Man”).

“Department Q” is an adaptation of the novels of the same name from Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen. They have spawned a successful Danish film series with more in production.

Matthew Goode, Chloe Pirrie, Alexej Manvelov, Leah Byrne and Kelly Macdonald are all on board Netflix’s English-language series Deadline can reveal.

The project comes from showrunner Scott Frank (The Queen’s Gambit). It has been written by Frank, Chandni Lakhani, Stephen Greenhorn and Colette Kane. Frank directs the first two of the eight instalments. Filming is taking place in Edinburgh, where the series will be set.
