Written by Transformers veteran Simon Furman and illustrated by Doctor Who: Once Upon a Time Lord artist Christopher Jones, Return to Skull Island is set within the world of Netflix’sSkull Island: The Animated Series. Published by Titan Comics and Legendary Comics, the story follows a group of survivors stranded on the island as they struggle to uncover its secrets and escape its many dangers—including the legendary King Kong himself.

As they navigate the perilous landscape, they’ll encounter monstrous creatures, ancient mysteries, and rival factions fighting for control.

From Titan Comics and Legendary Comics, it’s titled Return to Skull Island and set in 1993, the same year the events of the Netflix animated series “Skull Island” take place in.

In fact, the comic book series is an official continuation of the animated show.

Variety details that the upcoming series “follows a group of survivors stranded on the perilous South Pacific island. As they uncover its dark secrets, they face life-threatening challenges and fight for survival in a land where every creature is a threat — including King Kong himself.”

Chris suffered a strain in his calf during the Chiefs’ most recent game against the Texans this past weekend and he was out of practice on Sunday and Monday.

Even though Chris isn’t expected to play, he’s still at the stadium in Pittsburgh and was seen all dressed up while arriving for the Christmas Day game.

Coach Andy Reid said he was going to be checking on Chris ahead of the game.

Morgan Wallen‘s concert at Arrowhead Stadium was delayed by 40 minutes on Friday as police arrested a man at the venue.

Aaron Brown of Winchester, Illinois was charged with a Class E felony of making a terrorist threat in the 2nd degree after threatening to shoot two Kansas City Chiefs players who were in attendance at the concert, according to the Jackson County Prosecutor.

Although the prosecutor did not disclose the names of Brown’s targets, Wallen walked onto the stage Friday with Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones while wearing a Chiefs jersey.

Police detectives and intelligence analysts working at the stadium on Friday were monitoring threats online when they discovered Brown’s post on X. Brown then confirmed to police that he was at the stadium as they located him and took him into custody.

Brown was charged Saturday morning, during which a $15,000 bond was set. Prosecutors requested a $250,000 cash bond.

Much of the criticism thrown at Alex Garland’s Civil War centered on it presenting the titular conflict without really explaining its origins. Tony Gerber and Jesse Moss’s documentary War Game goes the other way by showing in very specific ways not how a modern-day American civil war might be fought but how one might start.

Vet Voice brought together a gaggle of real-life politicians, intelligence officials, and military experts to play fictional versions of themselves trying to solve a future crisis based in history: On January 6, 2025, a losing presidential candidate refuses to concede the election and calls on “patriots,” including the military, to stop the vote certification.

Jesse Moss and Tony Gerber’s War Game documents a nifty six-hour exercise in roleplay, commencing on the anniversary of the January 6 United States Capitol attack. Put on by the Vet Voice Foundation in 2023, this bit of roleplay included U.S. officials in both defense and intelligence acting out their response to a fabricated but feasible coup attempt supported by the active military. It’s a stark, scary scenario succinctly laid out by Moss and Gerber, with aide from Janessa Goldbeck, CEO of Vet Voice. The results of the planned practice aren’t very reassuring.

Steve Bullock (former governor of Montana) plays “the President” here, informed by his team of a developing situation wherein a potential organized revolt is activating all across the nation. Each side is represented in the action, with veterans Kristofer Goldsmith and Chris Jones playing leaders of the fictional “Order of Columbus,” an extremist group leading the treasonous mission.

Maggie Thrett, the actress and singer who portrayed one of the three glamorous humanoids who require pills to keep them from aging on the early Star Trek episode “Mudd’s Women,” has died. She was 76.

Thrett died Sunday of complications from an infection at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York, family members told The Hollywood Reporter.

Thrett also starred as a flower child alongside Yvette Mimieux, Christopher Jones and Judy Pace in the sex revenge romp Three in the Attic (1968), a box office hit for indie distributor Aip. She and the film received a mention on a TV spot that played in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019).

New Delhi, Aug 15 (Ians) Elon Musk has announced that his electric car company Tesla surpassed the milestone of producing 3 million vehicles.

Tesla cars have so far achieved over 40 million miles and the company expects to reach 100 million miles at the end of this year.

“Congrats Giga Shanghai on making the millionth car! Total Teslas made now over 3 mn,” Musk tweeted late on Sunday.

Earlier this month, Musk hinted that Tesla would probably build “at least 10 or 12 gigafactories” in years to come.

Musk said that the long-awaited Cybertruck (announced in 2019) will also be unveiled soon, though he did not give further details.

Tesla reported 16.93 billion in revenue in Q2 and automotive made 14.6 billion of the total sales.

In an earnings call, Musk said that Tesla’s new factory outside of Berlin crossed 1,000 cars per week in June.

Tesla was the third biggest automaker in mainland China in the first half of this year.

New Delhi, Aug 12 (Ians) The world saw sales of 4.2 million electric vehicles in the first half of this year, a 63 per cent growth from the same period last year, a new report has shown.

China alone witnessed the sale of 2.4 million EVs, 26 per cent of all passenger cars delivered in the country against just 10 per cent in the first half of 2021, according to latest Canalys research.

EVs include battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

“Ev sales in Mainland China more than doubled in H1 2022 and it is now by far the biggest Ev market. Fifty-seven per cent of global Ev sales were in Mainland China. With 118 per cent year-on-year growth, it is the fastest-growing market as well,” said Jason Low, principal analyst at Canalys.

“With this momentum and strong consumer demand, Ev sales should top 5 million by the end of 2022 in the country,” Low added.

Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, and Dolly Parton were among the names called when the 33rd annual Ibma Bluegrass Music Awards were announced on Tuesday in Nashville. Strings will compete in six categories, Tuttle in five, and Parton in two when the 2022 IBMAs are held Sept. 29 at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh, North Carolina.

A pair of fugitives were arrested in Madrid four days after being featured on Fox’s “America’s Most Wanted” reboot.

Alison Gracey and Christopher Jones were on the run for nearly 10 years after they were implicated in the boating death of 36-year-old Aimee Rhoads in 2011. Gracey and Jones, both British citizens, ran a scuba excursion company off the coast of Key Largo, Fla., and according to authorities, were repeatedly informed of major safety problems with the boat that capsized while carrying Rhoads and five other passengers.

Gracey and Jones were featured on “America’s Most Wanted” in a segment that featured a simulator estimating what the couple might look like in present day. Watch the clip above.

I know some fans out there have been loving this, and I feel a little bad not being quite so gushing in my praise as they have been. This has been a reasonably good book, but not much more. I have enjoyed the novelty of seeing The Seventh Doctor get his turn in the comic book spotlight, but he doesn’t seem to dominate the book like his other incarnations do. Cartmel’s a good writer, so the assumption has to be the character lacks a certain something.

It’s been 50 years since actress Olivia Hussey shot to fame in her role as doomed lover Juliet in 1968’s Romeo and Juliet and now the legendary star is opening up about memories, both happy and painful, in a new book, The Girl on the Balcony.

“It’s been quite a life,” Hussey, 67, tells People of her journey. “I feel grateful that I survived it all.”

As far as rehabilitations of characters go, last issue was a pretty good one for The Seventh Doctor. The Sylvester McCoy and Colin Baker incarnations were probably the lowest ebb for The Doctor, and personally I have little love for either of them, but last issue proved to a point there is no such thing as bad characters, just bad writing. Good writing creates good characters, and last issue was definitely some good writing. We had a lot of things to digest last issue, including the flashing back and forwards in time between 1967 and 2029, the prominent role of the fan-popular Intrusion Countermeasures Group, and the fact the Captain Gilmore has not aged a day since 1967 after being discovered in 2029 in a spaceship. Think that’s everything….oh yes, and he also has an alien creature attached to his spine.

Now I’m willing to bet that among the many incarnations of The Doctor, the Sylvester McCoy Seventh Doctor is not up there as one of your favourites. Personally, I never really took to him. Too goofy for me, achingly intent to show us just how zany he was. For me, he also lacked a good look, looking like something of a mish mash of previous Doctor’s. However, that was then and this is now. Now I’m of the mind that there is no such thing as a bad character, just a bad approach, or an approach that was not quite right. I have picked out my personal favourite ten titles of the many books I have read and reviewed this year. You may well disagree but, hey, it’s my list. Enjoy.

10. Tekken (Cavan Scott / Andie Tong)

Tekken was one of those books that didn’t put on any airs and graces, and just delivered to its core audience exactly what they wanted. Action, fighting, action, and, er , fighting. To be fair Cavan Scott tried to get a little emotional depth in, but Andie Tong’s visuals and plenty of action delivered what the fans wanted.

Back around 1965 - 1966 we endured this stupid buzzword concept called The Generation Gap, a notion that there was a natural divide between old people and their kids.

Robert Mitchum movies 'The Yakuza,' 'Ryan's Daughter' on TCM Today, Aug. 12, '15, Turner Classic Movies' “Summer Under the Stars” series is highlighting the career of Robert Mitchum. Two of the films being shown this evening are The Yakuza and Ryan's Daughter. The former is one of the disappointingly few TCM premieres this month. (See TCM's Robert Mitchum movie schedule further below.) Despite his film noir background, Robert Mitchum was a somewhat unusual choice to star in The Yakuza (1975), a crime thriller set in the Japanese underworld. Ryan's Daughter or no, Mitchum hadn't been a box office draw in quite some time; in the mid-'70s, one would have expected a Warner Bros. release directed by Sydney Pollack – who had recently handled the likes of Jane Fonda, Barbra Streisand, and Robert Redford – to star someone like Jack Nicholson or Al Pacino or Dustin Hoffman.

Actor Christopher Jones has died at age 72. Once touted as the heir to James Dean, Jones boasted a handsome face and the same type of brooding intensity that had made legends of Dean and Brando. Jones got his first big break in the 1960s Western TV series The Legend of Jesse James but the show lasted only one season. After appearances on The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and Judd for the Defense, Jones graduated to feature films. He starred in the little-seen 1967 drama Chubasco (click here for review), the hit 1968 Roger Corman production of Wild in the Streets (in which he played a rock star who becomes President of the United States), Three in the Attic and the spy thriller The Looking Glass War. His most high profile role was as a British army officer who falls in a forbidden love affair with an Irish girl in David Lean's 1970 film Ryan's Daughter.

This is kinda-sorta embarrassing for me to admit, but the death of actor Christopher Jones at age 72 last Friday slipped right under my radar. Maybe it was because his passing was overshadowed by the weekend deaths of Maximilian Schell and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Hollywood director and screenwriter who won an Oscar for Dog Day Afternoon

In Sunset Boulevard, William Holden's character remarks: "Audiences don't know somebody sits down and writes a picture. They think the actors make it up as they go along." Given the difficulties in quantifying their contributions, screenwriters seldom get the recognition they deserve. Frank Pierson, who has died aged 87, wrote the screenplays for 10 films but his reputation rests on Cat Ballou (1965), Cool Hand Luke (1967) and Dog Day Afternoon (1975), all of which gained him Academy Award nominations, with the last of them winning the Oscar for best original screenplay.

Yet most of the plaudits for Dog Day Afternoon went to Sidney Lumet, the director, and Al Pacino, the star. Pierson, whose work had as much to do with structure and character as dialogue, shaped the script from a Life magazine article about a bungled bank robbery that took place...

 

With the success of the big screen adaptation of John Le Carre's Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, it's ironic that the DVD of the 1970 film version of The Looking Glass War has been allowed to go out of print. Granted, the film was not well-received at the time, but writer Kimberly Lindbergs posts a defense of the production on the Movie Morlocks web site.
