Exclusive: Vix has begun production on 7 new original titles during the second quarter of the year including 6 series and one film. They include the Sofia Vergara-led Koati: Animated Series and the Benicio del Toro-produced film Matar Al Jockey (Kill The Jockey).

Michelle Garza Cervera‘s debut feature, Huesera is on the way early this year from XYZ Films. The film opens in theaters on February 10 followed by a VOD release on February 16.

Huesera: The Bone Woman premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival in New York in the festival’s genre-driven Midnight section and would go on to win both the Best New Narrative Director and Nora Ephron awards. XYZ Films, the distributor of such recent genre releases as The Mean One, Gatlopp: Hell of Game, and Prisoners of the Ghostland, has unveiled a teaser poster for the supernatural horror film Huesera: The Bone Woman – and along with the poster comes the announcement that XYZ will be giving the film a theatrical release in the United States on February 10th! A VOD release will follow on February 16th. The movie will also be available to watch on the Shudder streaming service in North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand at a later date.

The feature directorial debut of Michelle Garza Cervera (who wrote the screenplay with Abia Castillo), Huesera: The Bone Woman received a lot of praise from critics and racked up awards while making the festival rounds. The film stars Natalia Solián (Zapatos Rojos) as Valeria, a young woman expecting her first child who becomes cursed by a sinister entity.

Exclusive: Lionsgate+ has renewed Señorita 89 for a second season and has added Dolores Heredia (El Galán) and Yoshira Escárrega (Toda La Sangre) as series regulars. Production will kick off on October 17 in Mexico City.

For her first feature, co-writer/director Michelle Garza Cervera taps into the horrors of impending motherhood in Huesera, a gripping horror story about a young woman who is being endlessly tormented once she becomes pregnant after years of trying to start a family. Maternal fears have been explored numerous times throughout the history of genre storytelling, but I think how Cervera is able to marry this theme with Mexican folklore brings about a truly unique perspective that heightens the horror that runs rampant throughout this story that was written by both Cervera and Abia Castillo.

L.A.-based Spanish-language streaming platform Pantaya and global streamer Starzplay have revealed that production is underway on the period new drama series “Señorita 89” from Fremantle and the Larraín brothers’ Fabula, the latest co-production stemming from a first-look deal between the two, dating back to 2019.

The first fruit of that combined labor was global hit series “La Jauria,” available on Amazon Prime Video in Latin America and HBO Max in the U.S. Selected as one of Variety’s best international series of 2020, “La Jauria” stars “A Fantastic Woman” lead Daniela Vega and is directed by one of Latin America’s most prominent film and TV writer-directors Lucia Puenzo.

The first teaser trailer for a new indie horror film called Belzebuth has been released and it looks like it’s going to be quite a wild horrific experience. The trailer does a great job of setting up the creepy nightmarish tone.

The story is set on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border, and the it follows special agent Emanuel Ritter (Joaquín Cosio) “as he leads a police investigation into a series of mysterious deaths involving young children at the border of Mexico and U.S.A. The case takes a supernatural turn when a priest (Tobin Bell) from the Vatican links the ancient demon Belzebuth to the murders.”

Bell, who is best known for playing Jigsaw in the Saw films, and he’s looking like a pretty gnarly priest in this movie!

What seems like a clear case becomes much more intense when a priest of the Vatican appears with another point of view. Tobin Bell (from the Saw series) plays that priest, sporting a pretty gnarly beard along with markings all over his body.
