A new episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series has been released this morning, and in this episode we’re looking back at one of the least popular films to be directed by the legendary John Carpenter: the 2001 release Ghosts of Mars (watch it Here). Why didn’t Ghosts of Mars turn out to be another Carpenter classic? We try to figure that out in the video embedded above.
Directed by Carpenter from a script he wrote with Larry Sulkis, Ghosts of Mars has the following synopsis: Long inhabited by human settlers, the Red Planet has become the manifest destiny of an over-populated Earth. Nearly 640,000 people now live and work all over Mars, mining the planet for its abundant natural resources. But one of those mining operations has uncovered a deadly mother lode: a long-dormant Martian civilization whose warriors are systematically taking over the bodies of human intruders.

One of Atkins and Mathews’ costars in Final Summer is St. Louis-based Bishop Stevens, the WCW Wrestler-turned-actor. Stevens trained with the legendary 8-time World Champion Harley Race before signing with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) under the name “The Atomic Dogg”. The North St. Louis County-native Bishop has a number of good film acting roles under his belt now, including parts in Girl On The Third Floor, No Good Heroes (read my interview with that film’s director Here), Lockdown, and TV shows such as AMC’s The Walking Dead, Fox’s Empire, and NBC’s Chicago Pd. Bishop has had the opportunity to work with such stars as Nicolas Cage, Selma Blair, Lobo Sebastian, Michael Pare’, Zazie Beetz, Colin Ford, Kevin Sizemore,...

Words On Bathroom Walls tells the familiar story of bright 16-year old Adam (Charlie Plummer), who suffers from schizophrenia. Expelled following a fistfight, he is sent to a Catholic school to finish out his senior year. Adam makes little attempt to fit in until he meets Maya (Taylor Russell), a hyper-intelligent girl from the wrong side of the tracks and there is an instant soulful and romantic connection. When he starts hearing voices and seeing people who aren’t there, he attempts to hide his illness because he fears it will interfere with his dream of attending culinary school.
The screenplay for Words On Bathroom Walls stuffs in every cliché about teen angst yet is a laudable attempt to seem heartfelt without too much blatant manipulation. It’s an uneven film, but generally succeeds thanks especially to a winning central performance Charlie Plummer. The film itself often seems schizophrenic. The...

The 1999 Drew Barrymore romcom “Never Been Kissed” is referenced multiple times in “Words on Bathroom Walls,” with the older film cast in a rosy Proustian glow that may come as a jolt to any viewers who remember the 20th century. Fully 21st-century teens Adam (Charlie Plummer) and Maya (Taylor Russell) describe it as a “classic” and a “cinematic masterpiece” with equal parts affection and irony, believing themselves a little smarter than its cozy high-school movie clichés. So does “Words on Bathroom Walls,” in ways that sometimes pay off strikingly.
A teen movie for the generation of mental health awareness, this slick, well-acted adaptation of Julia Walton’s popular Ya novel complicates typical coming-of-age stakes and obstacles with the disorienting realities of the hero’s diagnosed schizophrenia, giving unusual, anxious treatment to the genre’s standard set pieces — from dreamy prom night to rousing graduation speech — along the way.

Lobo Sebastian Cast In ‘The Mule & ‘Words On Bathroom Walls’; Martha Kelly Joins ‘Corporate Animals’
Lobo Sebastian (USA’s Queen of the South) has landed a role in Clint Eastwood’s Warner Bros film, The Mule, which Eastwood will direct and star in along with Bradley Cooper. Eastwood plays Earl Stone, a man in his 80s who is broke, alone, and facing foreclosure of his business when he is offered a job that simply requires him to drive—easy enough but, unbeknownst to Earl, he’s just signed on as a drug courier for a Mexican cartel, and also hit the radar of hard-charging DEA agent Colin Bates. The piece was inspired by Leo Sharp’s story, though the plot of the film is fictional. Eastwood will also produce the pic under his Malpaso shingle, along with along with Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas from Imperative Entertainment. In addition, Sebastian was cast in Words On Bathroom Walls, the Ya drama adapted from Julia Walton’s...

Sleep With Me takes a downbeat look at the traditional marriage vows. Well, one in particular, you know “for better or for worse”. For the couple at the center of the story, it’s tough for things to get much worse. It’s as though the Righteous Brothers classic “You’ve Lost that Lovin’ Feeling” were playing on a constant loop through their home’s sound system. The husband is Paul (Cliff Chamberlain), a frustrated small town Missouri academic who now makes a living by managing the home rental properties owned by his surly, abusive father Henry (Raymond J. Barry). And a good chunk of Paul’s days are occupied by taking care of his mean ole’ widower Daddy’s house. The wife is Gabi (Danielle Canastra), a transplant from South America with a somewhat shady past. She’s eager to rebuild her reputation and begin life anew by starting a family with Paul.

NextMovie kicks off Leprechaun Week today! Look for new "Leprechaun"-related content every day this week in the lead-up to St. Paddy's Day. Because it's what Leprechaun would have wanted ...
"I have not come to play with fruit. I just want me magic flute!"
So sayeth the ever-rhyming Irish demon played by Warwick Davis in "Leprechaun in the Hood" (2000) to the lusty cross-dressing Miss Fontaine (Lobo Sebastian). A little later, these two engage in a passionate romp under the sheets during which Miss Fontaine's cries of pain will be mistaken for gasps of orgasmic delight by at least one bewildered passer-by as the Leprechaun claims another victim.
It's astonishingly tasteless, crass and almost (almost) admirably brazen ... which kind of sums up the "Leprechaun" series in its entirety. And that's a pretty impressive entirety — there are six of the damn things in that pot of cinematic gold, after all.
