If you’re a fan of mind-bending movies that keep you guessing until the very last second, then you’re in for a treat. Christopher Nolan’s 2006 psychological thriller The Prestige, is making its way to Hulu on March 14, and I couldn’t be more excited.
A Masterpiece of Suspense and Mystery
Let’s talk about why this film is such a gem. Christopher Nolan is best known for his massive blockbusters like Inception, Interstellar, and The Dark Knight, but The Prestige is arguably one of his most underrated masterpieces. It’s a gripping tale of obsession, rivalry, and sacrifice, wrapped in an intricate puzzle that keeps unraveling with every scene. Starring Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman as two feuding magicians in 19th-century London, this movie isn’t just about magic tricks—it’s about the dark lengths people go to in pursuit of greatness. And let’s not forget the stellar supporting cast,...

Harley Quinn now must take on the biggest newspaper in Metropolis, but lucky for her, she has a man on the inside. “Bottle My Heart” gets into the silliness of Clayface’s plan, so of course it intersects with the Brainaic threat. When things spiral out of control within the newsroom, Harley and the gang make an unusual commitment to bringing a musical to the stage.

Late last year, we got the disappointing news that Matt Reeves' The Batman sequel won't be arriving in theaters until October 1, 2027.
DC Studios co-head James Gunn took to social media shortly after the announcement to state that the almost year-long delay was simply down to the fact that the script hasn't been finished. This led to speculation that Reeves may not have settled on which direction to take the sequel, but it sounds like the filmmaker has now, at the very least, cracked the overall story.
Following recent comments from Alfred Pennyworth actor Andy Serkis, star Robert Pattinson has revealed that he also knows what the sequel - which is no longer officially titled The Batman - Part II - will be about, while also addressing the news that the movie has been pushed into 2027.

One day, many years ago, actor Andy Serkis sat in his kitchen working on the voice for the character of Gollum in Peter Jackson's forthcoming adaptation of the J.R.R. Tolkien fantasy epic The Lord of the Rings. It was then, unexpectedly, that he became inspired by the most unlikely creature imaginable: his cat, Dizz.
Dizz came into the kitchen and began retching up a fur ball. It was in this moment, as Dizz gagged and lurched forward, that a light bulb went off in Serkis' head. “I saw his spine kind of rippling and he started to go [retching sounds] and that is exactly where Gollum came from," Serkis told a crowd of spectators at Fan Expo San Francisco in 2024. “My entire career I owe to my cat," Serkis quipped. And we owe Dizz for one of the most iconic voices in the movies:

Sophie Thatcher had the pleasure of appearing in The Book of Boba Fett in 2022 as the leader of the Mods biker gang. Like many actors who have been lucky enough to join the franchise, she would be totally down for a return -- and we'd be glad to have her.
"I would love to," she told Inverse when asked if she'd ever return to a galaxy far, far away. “The Star Wars universe is so vast and so dense and so interesting, and Jon Favreau made it feel very political and very timely. It's such a cool universe. I would do it in a heartbeat.”
Some people didn't like the Mods (or The Book of Boba Fett), but they actually stood out as unique elements as Favreau attempted to worldbuild Tatooine in a very particular post-Return of the Jedi time period. Thatcher could easily fit right back into the universe,...

The Batman was released in 2022 and, by the time The Batman Part II arrives in theaters, roughly five and a half years will have passed since we first met Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight.
That's a long wait for a sequel and the movie will also have competition from whatever DC Studios dreams up for the Dcu's Batman (who may or may not debut in Clayface next September).
Following multiple delays, The Batman Part II does appear to be taking shape and Pattinson shared an update at the Mickey 17 premiere yesterday evening.
Asked when shooting begins, the actor said, "I think at the end of the year? And I know what it’s about but I can’t tell anyone, but it’s like, it’s very cool. It’s very exciting."
The interviewer was pretty clueless and under the belief The Batman sequel had already started shooting. As a result,...

There’s a lot of pressure involved in trying to follow a trilogy as acclaimed and accomplished as the Andy Serkis-led “Planet of the Apes” saga, which culminated with 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes.” For “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” director Wes Ball, actor Owen Teague, animation supervisor Paul Story and visual effects supervisor Erik Winquist, making their blockbuster sequel involved a lot of both looking behind and ahead of them as they pushed the visual effects of the franchise even further.
“The challenge with this movie was that we both had to give people what they were expecting, but also surprise them,” Ball told TheWrap for a new installment of How I Did It, presented by 20th Century Studios. “We’re standing on what’s done before and elevating [it] into a level that wasn’t possible a couple years ago.”

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” won the top Visual Effects Society Award for outstanding VFX in a photoreal feature at the 23rd Visual Effects Society Awards. Yet Tuesday at the Beverly Hilton, the Society spread the wealth, awarding three trophies, the most in the live-action feature categories, to “Dune: Part Two.”
In “Kingdom,” VFX studio Weta FX led by its production VFX supervisor Erik Winquist worked to advance the realism of its emotive apes in areas such as facial animation and muscle simulation, while placing them in environments including rapids and a great flood.
The sequel to 2021’s VFX Oscar and top Ves winner “Dune”, which again features key work by Dneg led by production VFX supervisor Paul Lambert, collected prizes in the categories for CG cinematography, for the Arrakeen Basin; effects simulation, for the atomic explosions and wormriding; and compositing and lighting, for wormriding, geidi prime, and the final battle.

Daisy Ridley is a Star Wars fan favorite even five years after her performance in The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. While we still don't know much about her involvement in a future Rey movie, we did recently learn she'd be down to join another mega-franchise if the opportunity arose.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, the actor said she wouldn't even hesitate to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) if she were asked. "If they call, absolutely," she said, even specifying she'd be willing to fill the shoes of an Avenger.
It wouldn't be the first time a Star Wars actor has made the jump to the MCU, either. From Natalie Portman to Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Samuel L. Jackson, Taika Waititi, Andy Serkis, Ridley's co-star Oscar Isaac -- the list is actually quite long. Once you've hit it big in one arena, especially when Disney is involved, you're much more likely...

Last December, we got the disappointing news that Matt Reeves' The Batman sequel - which is no longer officially titled "The Batman - Part II" - has been hit with a major delay, and now won't arrive in theaters until October 1, 2027.

A sequel to ‘The Batman’ was officially announced at CinemaCon in April 2022, with Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves returning. By August, Mattson Tomlin had joined as co-writer, and the film was initially titled ‘The Batman – Part II’ in early 2023.
However, by late 2024, the title was dropped as Reeves continued working on the script. Key cast members, including Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as Penguin, are set to reprise their roles.
So far, the movie has been delayed 2 times in total and is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Matt Reeves gave us an update on the script a few months ago, saying it’s still not finished but filming is expected to start in late 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England.

With the first trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps finally online, it appears we can look forward to merchandise for the reboot slowly starting to roll out into stores (we're likely still a couple of months away from seeing action figures and Funko Pops).
While we expect more movie-inspired imagery to eventually follow, this first batch is seemingly based specifically on the Future Foundation, with 1960s-era graphics standing in for Marvel's First Family.
There's a wonderful shot of H.E.R.B.I.E., though, and the iconic "4" logo we're sure to see a great deal of leading up to The Fantastic Four: First Steps' release this summer. The team's robot is already adorable and likely to be highly sought after in toy form.
We had much to discuss after watching the teaser, including Marvel Studios' take on The Thing. "I have seen a very crude rendering because it...

Believe it or not, there was an Oscar buzz around Andy Serkis’ Gollum role in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Serkis played the voice and motion capture for the role. He initially had doubts about the role as he was unsure whether the mo-cap performance would work in the film. However, Peter Jackson believed it to be a relevant acting performance.

However, he never received the recognition for The Lord of the Rings.

Fans are aware of how much influence J.R.R. Tolkien had on George R.R. Martin enough to notice the similarities between The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Even the series finale that we’re all disappointed with somehow mirrored certain aspects of the Middle-earth.
Emilia Clarke in Game of Thrones / Credits: HBO
The parallels between the two highly successful fantasy series are obvious from the beginning, with matters about the legitimacy of heirs, evil powers rising, and, of course, the existence of dragons. Interestingly, there’s one character from Martin’s lore that evidently had the same arc as this iconic Tolkien creature.

Peter Jackson clearly failed to recreate his Lord of the Rings magic with The Hobbit trilogy. Viggo Mortensen, who played Aragorn in the earlier film trilogy, had no role in The Hobbit films. However, prior to the release of the Martin Freeman-starring first film, Mortensen expressed his one doubt about Jackson’s second film series in J.R.R. Tolkien’s universe.

Mortensen’s doubt turned out to be valid as that one thing became the trilogy’s biggest enemy. Jackson tried to emulate the success of The Lord of the Rings but made a big misstep when he tried to follow the three-film format of the earlier film series to these prequel films.

Guillermo del Toro’s The Hobbit was supposed to be something truly epic, before it was scrapped, of course. The visionary director had an entirely different spin on the classic tale that could’ve completely reshaped our view of The Lord of the Rings universe.

Have you been watching Missing You, the latest Harlan Coben drama on Netflix? Plenty of people have as it’s a regular top ten show on the platform currently. But with just five episodes in the limited series, it’s all over far too quickly.
If you like watching the many Coben shows like that one, you may be hungry for more to watch in a similar style. His deal with Netflix means there will be others to follow. It looks like the next two from the author are being lined up now.
If you want another dark mystery full of plot twists and with big characters then Netflix will have many options. One recommendation would be to turn to the 2023 movie featuring the return of Di John Luther. The maverick UK cop was always highly watchable during his five TV series. A movie promises more of the same but in a shorter time frame.

Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist” sparked controversy over the weekend after it became more widely known that AI was used during postproduction for enhancing stars Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones’ Hungarian language dialogue. The subject of AI already puts many in Hollywood on edge, but it’s also being increasingly used in filmmaking. In this case, its use comes in a film that is considered among the Oscar frontrunners. But how was it actually used, and did the use of AI influence the performances in any way?
Writer-director Corbet was quick to release a statement, saying that it did not. “Adrien and Felicity’s performances are completely their own,” asserted Corbet as part of a statement to Variety. “They worked for months with dialect coach Tanera Marshall to perfect their accents. Innovative Respeecher technology was used in Hungarian language dialogue editing only, specifically to refine certain vowels and letters for accuracy.

The Lord of the Rings franchise will be returning with new films in the near future, but Elrond star Hugo Weaving won't be partaking. 2024 was an exciting year for Tolkien fans, with a new season of Prime Video's The Rings of Power and an animated film, War of the Rohirrim. However, the biggest and most unexpected announcement was that members of the original cast would be returning for a feature film centered around Gollum. The Hunt for Gollum is set to be released in 2026, with Andy Serkis directing and starring and Peter Jackson producing.
The return of Andy Serkis as Gollum implies that, unlike The Rings of Power, these new movies will be directly connected to the previous Lord of the Rings movies, especially in the era of shared universes. Ian McKellen is set to reprise his role as Gandalf, and questions have begun swirling around Viggo Mortensen's Aragorn,...

It's been many decades since J.R.R. Tolkien first published The Hobbit, creating one of the most beloved fantasy franchises. When Peter Jackson decided to adapt The Lord of the Rings novels into an epic trilogy, it was a significant risk, but it paid off in the end and resulted in another trilogy based on The Hobbit. However, the Lotr universe hasn't concluded yet, as The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will bring one of the best secondary characters of the franchise to the forefront. Gollum, played by Andy Serkis, is a complex figure in Lotr.
Gollum is enthralled by the One Ring and at war with himself throughout the story. He lives for many years and impacts the lives of both Bilbo and Frodo when they embark on their adventures. As time has progressed, it's clear that there's a deeper interest in Gollum and his origin story,...

Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings movies are some of the most revered films ever made. Even now, over two decades after release, they remain culturally relevant, and the gold-standard by which all fantasy movies are compared. All these years later, director Peter Jackson has finally named which movie of the trilogy he's most proud of...and his choice will probably surprise you!
Speaking to Letterboxd, Jackson explained that he has a tough time watching his own films. "I can’t watch my own films. I mean, one day… I sort of enjoy it more as more time goes by, so one day I’ll watch them again," he said. As for what his favorite movie in the trilogy is, it's surprisingly The Two Towers, the middle movement of the trilogy, but his answer is far from set in stone. "The Two Towers, I think. But if I...

What Do We Know About the upcoming second season of the Disney+ Star Wars series Andor? More than you may think. The acclaimed prequel to Rogue One, Andor’s first season, became one of Lucasfilm’s most critically acclaimed projects since Disney acquired them. With production wrapped on the second and final season, let’s dive in and take a look at what is coming up next in Andor.
Season two follows the four years before Rogue One.
The first season of Andor followed a single year in the life of Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, reprising his role from the prequel feature film. Since we know the first season of Andor is set five years before Rogue One, four years of plot need to be compressed into the twelve episodes comprising season two. The final three episodes of Andor’s second season will cover the three days before the start of Rogue One.

Some may not be aware there's a little something extra at the very end of the credits for 13 Going on 30. It's not an extra scene in the vein of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's signature stingers (some of which have included 13 Going on 30 star Mark Ruffalo), but audio of teenage girls gleefully singing along to "Love is a Battlefield," much like in an earlier scene in the movie. I only just noticed this while rewatching the movie and was delighted by all it represents.
13 Going on 30 is 2004 fantasy romantic comedy about a 13-year-old girl named Jenna Rink, who, in 1987, dreams of being popular and wishes she were "thirty and flirty and thriving." She later wakes up in 2004 at the age of 30. Jennifer Garner stars as 30-year-old Jenna, while Christa B. Allen plays the role of young Jenna. Mark Ruffalo, Judy Greer, Jim Gaffigan, and Andy Serkis also star.

Kraven the Hunter was one of Sony Pictures' biggest Marvel disasters to date. The movie flopped with critics and filmgoers, grossing significantly less than even Madame Web at the worldwide box office.
Before it became clear that fans didn't want "Sony Pictures' Universe of Marvel Characters," the plan had been to build to a Sinister Six project assembling Venom, Morbius, The Vulture, Kraven, and perhaps characters like Cassandra Webb and Rhino.
That idea has thankfully been scrapped but it seems Sony intended to tease Knull in Kraven the Hunter. Artist Jules Darriulat shared a piece of concept art from the movie showing a planet's surface littered with dead Symbiotes.
He captioned the post by saying, "Here's an environment shot done for a cancelled sequence from Kraven the Hunter. It was a lot of fun working on this sequence with the Framestore's art department team!"

In a field of actors endowed with a dozen different skill sets, only Andy Serkis could have pulled off two of the most radically revolutionary roles that forever changed the face of cinema. Fortunately, the actor’s arrival in Hollywood perfectly coincided with Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy and the latest Planet of the Apes film series.

The eccentric and wildly gifted English actor has been an invaluable addition to the film industry, blessing Hollywood with such realistic roles as Gollum and Caesar. His creative and technical contributions to both franchises helped make them become critically and commercially successful. He did not let special effects, AI, and CGI render a lifeless version of the deeply layered, emotionally complex, and intricately written characters of Gollum and Caesar.

I have a lot of trepidation for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but after a recent reveal regarding one specific hero, I feel a lot more confident the movie will be a success. As a die-hard fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) who has been following the action from the beginning in 2008, I still get incredibly excited when a big new title is announced. The Avengers movies blew my mind, and when new superhero teams were announced, there was a lot of enthusiasm.
However, when it comes to The Fantastic Four, it feels like a much bigger undertaking for the MCU, especially when the franchise has been struggling to keep fans engaged. These heroes are literally the First Family when it comes to Marvel, and it's a team that has already been adapted multiple times to largely middling results. And some of that is down to the characters that form the team,...

One does not simply pick their favorite Lord of the Rings movie. Oh, we do? Well, Peter Jackson does, too, giving his definitive pick that will no doubt divide Lord of the Rings fans. No, it’s not Ralph Bakshi’s movie, but instead The Two Towers.
Speaking with Letterboxd, Peter Jackson said that as of now, his favorite movie of the Lord of the Rings saga is the second installment. “The Two Towers, I think. But if I see them again I might have a totally different one.” But Jackson was careful to note that he’s not just sitting around his hobbit-hole watching his own flicks, adding, “I can’t watch my own films. I just, I mean, one day…I sort of enjoy it more as more time goes by, so one day I’ll watch them again. I hope you enjoy ’em!” If only he could shake them from his memory…...

Orlando Bloom once ruled Middle-earth with a bow, a quiver, and the silkiest blonde hair ever seen on screen. But after a $956M film, he decided to peace out from The Lord of the Rings universe faster than Frodo bolting from Mordor. No more Legolas, no more elf drama, he was done. Or so we thought.

When it comes to works of fantasy adaptation, The Lord of the Rings trilogy remains one of the most acclaimed and beloved. Peter Jackson directed all three installments, which were released in theaters between 2001 and 2003. The three movies, which serve as adaptations of the book series by author J.R.R. Tolkien, were all critically and commercially successful, and Jackson would ultimately return to the world of Middle-earth with his less successful Hobbit trilogy in the 2010s.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was the movie that started it all, introducing Elijah Wood as Frodo and kicking off his quest to destroy the One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom. This installment was followed by The Two Towers, which features the climactic Battle of Helm's Deep, and finally by The Return of the King, the trilogy-capper that wraps up the stories of Lord of the Rings characters like Frodo,...

Steven Spielberg is the most commercially successful director of all time, and his movies have made over $10 billion at the global box office. In a career spanning over 50 years, Spielberg has excelled in a variety of genres, including sci-fi, action, horror and drama. One common thread in all his creative pursuits has been massive box office success. Spielberg has set the record for the highest-grossing movie of all time on three separate occasions.
According to Spielberg himself, his first ever movie made a profit of $1. He made Firelight with a $500 budget when he was just 17, and his ticket sales from the one-night showing totaled $501. From these humble beginnings, Spielberg developed a career as a director of box office smashes. The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is utilizing a worrisome strategy to attract fans of Peter Jackson's trilogy, but it might be necessary after the lackluster performance of The War of the Rohirrim. Warner Bros. is proving its commitment to expanding its Lord of the Rings franchise, with War of the Rohirrim bringing J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth back to the big screen for the first time since The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies debuted in 2014. Ebon Moss-Bachrach is playing Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but will the actor utter the character’s iconic catchphrase?
While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week, Moss-Bachrach was asked if he says, “It’s clobberin’ time” at some point in the film. “I slipped it in there a couple times,” Moss-Bachrach said. “We’ll see what happens. I don’t have final cut on this one.“
The Thing will be brought to life through motion-capture in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and the actor even got some help from the godfather of motion-capture performance, Andy Serkis. “I have seen a very crude rendering, because it takes a while to build this stuff,” Moss-Bachrach said. “They’ve got lots of animators working on this. I wore a motion-capture suit, two cameras right here and so they’re capturing absolutely everything, every nuance in my eye.

The Lord of the Rings gets a Christmas twist in a new music video, which features Gollum attempting to secure his Precious during the holiday season. Based on the books by J.R.R. Tolkien, Peter Jackson first brought the world of Middle-earth to life in 2001, with his trilogy ultimately concluding in 2003. Gollum plays a large role in the second and third films, leading Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) through Mordor to Mount Doom, though he eventually gives in to his desire for the One Ring.
Brendan Dalton now puts Gollum front and center in a new Lord of the Rings music video called "Gollum's Christmas." The video, which is presented in claymation, features Gollum enjoying a very Merry Christmas with the One Ring, often appearing alongside Frodo and Sam in a version of Middle-earth that's been decked out for the holidays. Just because it's Christmas, though, doesn't mean Gollum is being any less mischievous.

10 Major Sony Spider-Man Universe Questions We May Never Get Answers For Now The Franchise Has Ended

Following the release of Kraven the Hunter, Sony's Spider-Man Universe as we know it is coming to an end, which leaves many questions unanswered and loose ends unexplored. Originally planned to be connected to Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man duology, the Ssu became its own entity with the release of 2018's Venom. Despite its name, Sony's Marvel movie franchise featured some of Spider-Man's greatest villains from Marvel Comics, but not the wall-crawler himself, who was instead introduced to the MCU, but this may have contributed to the franchise's downfall.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is the latest entry in the celebrated and hugely popular Lord of the Rings series of films, and it tells the story of Helm Hammerhand defending the kingdom of Rohan from an army of Dunlendings. War of the Rohirrim reviews were split, though there weren't many ardent defenders of the film, as its box office failings became apparent throughout its first weekend in theaters. Personally, I think the film is solid enough, but its release does have me worried about the upcoming plans for the Lord of the Rings franchise.
Since the rights to The Lord of the Rings franchise were sold a few years ago, the number of releases in the series has been steadily increasing, from video games, to TV shows, with an influx of new feature films that are set to be released, and unfortunately, War of...

Well, that was fast. New Line Cinema’s anime feature The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, which opened on Dec. 13 to a very low $4.5M, will be available on digital in home on Dec. 27, repping a 14-day theatrical window.
War of the Rohirrim will be available on all participating digital platforms including Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Fandango at Home, and more. Note, just because the movie is available in home, doesn’t mean it won’t continue to play in theaters. That said, there’s a competition this Christmas with Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Mufasa, Wicked and Moana 2, and it will be very hard to hold screens on a movie that didn’t perform well.
The $30M animated production fell 72% in its second weekend with $1.25M for a $7.3M running total. Warners greenlit the movie before Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy took control of...

Knull, one of Marvel’s scariest villains, recently appeared in Venom: The Last Dance. His inclusion in the movie sparked mixed reactions, with some fans excited while others felt it was a poor choice to introduce him in the final film of the trilogy.
Voiced by Andy Serkis, Knull didn’t play a major role in the movie. The director, Kelly Marcel, explained that this was just the start for the character, and he’s expected to return in future films.
Knull is set to appear in Spider-Man 4, but it’s still unclear how the MCU will handle his character.
Before Venom 3 was even released, fans were worried that Knull would have to be weakened, since no character in the Ssu had power close to his.

Knull, one of the most terrifying Marvel villains, recently debuted in live-action in Venom: The Last Dance. The announcement was highly polarizing, with some fans praising his inclusion in the movie, while others criticized the decision to introduce him in the final installment of the trilogy.
Knull was voiced by Andy Serkis, but the character left much to be desired. The villain didn’t play an active role in the movie, as writer-director Kelly Marcel explained that this was just the beginning for Knull, and he is expected to appear (presumably) in future installments.
Knull is expected to appear in Spider-Man 4, and it remains to be seen how the MCU will handle him.
Even before Venom 3 was released, fans were concerned that Knull would have to be significantly nerfed, as no character in the Ssu was close to Knull’s potential power.
