Graduating from UCLA with a degree in English Literature, Cid Swank's
professional career has spanned the spectrum of marketing positions while
pursuing her love for travel. The diversity includes serving as a Peace
Corps volunteer, where she taught English as a second language in
Zaire, now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo, and then
transferring into sports marketing for the surf industry, representing FREE STYLE USA, where she traveled for sporting events to promote their products.
Since 1991, Swank has been a freelance unit publicist for feature films and television, working on productions in the Bahamas, Britain, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Morocco, Namibia, Slovakia, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, and Tahiti, as well as around the USA. In addition, she has served as a publicity consultant for independently-produced movies, advertising agencies, and small businesses, as well as taking on writing assignments between projects.
Swank has served as the unit publicist on over one hundred projects. Some of her credits include her first movie, Guncrazy (1992), starring Drew Barrymore & James Le Gros, the cult classic Bound (1996), which was the directorial debut of the Wachowski Brothers, Breakdown (1997), starring Kurt Russell, U-571 (2000), starring Matthew McConaughey, Proof of Life (2000), starring Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe, The Last Castle (2001), starring Robert Redford and James Gandolfini, Antwone Fisher (2002), which marked Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington's directorial debut, the heist flick, The Italian Job (2003), starring Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron and Edward Norton, The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), starring Will Smith, who earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance, The Great Debaters (2007), also directed by Denzel Washington, the critically-acclaimed Get Low (2009), starring Robert Duvall, Bill Murray & Sissy Spacek, and Summit Entertainment's Drive Angry (2011), a supernatural action thriller starring Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard & William Fichtner.
Swank also worked on Drive (2011), directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, who won Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, that starred Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Albert Brooks, Ron Perlman & Christina Hendricks. In addition, she oversaw unit publicity on Antoine Fuqua's action thriller, "Olympus Has Fallen," starring Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman & Angela Bassett, "The Equalizer," starring Denzel Washington, "Focus," starring Will Smith & Margot Robbie, David O. Russell's "Joy," starring Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Edgar Ramirez, Virginia Madsen and Diane Ladd, and "Jack Reacher 2: Never Go Back," starring Tom Cruise.
Most recently, Swank completed principal photography on Antoine Fuqua's "Emancipation," starring Will Smith, and Steven Soderberg's thriller, "Kimi," starring Zoe Kravitz. Previously, she worked on "King Richard," starring Will Smith, "A Journal For Jordan" which marked Denzel Washington's fourth time as a director, "The Little Things," starring Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and Jared Leto, Netflix's "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom," based upon August Wilson's play, and "The Laundromat," directed by Steven Soderbergh.
In addition, Swank is featured in "100 Careers in Film and Television", written by Tanja Crouch, that was published in 2003.
