Parish will end after its first and only season, AMC confirmed Thursday.
The show, loosely based on British drama series The Driver, starred Giancarlo Esposito, Zackary Momoh and Paula Malcomson, among others, and premiered in March.
“We’re so proud of Parish, and thankful for the creative talent involved and the performances they were able to bring to the screen, starting with the remarkable Giancarlo Esposito, Skeet Ulrich and the entire cast,” AMC said in a statement. “We are unfortunately unable to proceed with a second season, but Season 1 will remain available on AMC+ to fans who want to relive this thrill-ride-of-a-series and those yet to discover it.”
The Hollywood Reporter‘s review of the show praised Esposito’s performance, calling him “an emotionally volcanic leading man,” but criticized most other aspects, saying “it’s full of extended sequences that you’ve seen done better countless times.”

Giancarlo Esposito is returning to AMC, the home of his Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, in Parish, a thriller set in New Orleans.
Esposito, himself a gearhead, stars as Gracian “Gray” Parish, a family man and proud owner of a luxury car service in The Big Easy.
Speaking at AMC’s TCA press tour, Esposito said New Orleans is a “city of demons”.
“It’s a city that has a majority of churches, more than any other city in America. It’s a city with bars on every corner, where you can party until four in the morning. It seems like a place where you have to make a choice and our show’s a lot about the choices that Gracian Parish makes, whether they be good choices or bad choices and how they affect his family,” he said. “It was so much about the family and community, not only the city,...

Prime Video series “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” has unveiled first look images.
The series is a reimagining of the 2005 film starring Brad Pit and Angelina Jolie as Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith, respectively. In this iteration, Donald Glover (“The Martian”) stars as John Smith, while Maya Erskine (“PEN15”) stars as Jane Smith.
This new version features John and Jane both landing jobs working for an international spy agency where they must pose as spouses Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith. As they navigate a new mission each week, they find themselves falling in love with one another, complicating — and compromising — their “strictly business” relationship. Notably, this version features an intentional sham marriage between two strangers, as compared to the 2005 original, in which Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith were married without being aware of each other’s identity as an assassin.

AMC’s episodic anthology series “Soulmates” takes place 15 years into the future, following the discovery of a test that unequivocally tells you who your soulmate is. And that test, created by fictional company Soul Connex, would actually work, according to series co-creator Brett Goldstein.
“We did all the science of this,” the “Ted Lasso” star, who created the six-episode show with “Black Mirror” alum Will Bridges, told TheWrap. “There is a professor in London, and this was a few years ago, who is a leading professor of quantum physics and we had an idea, where it sounds really complicated, but we spent the day with him and I pitched him this idea and he said, ‘Yeah, that would work.'”

AMC has given the greenlight to an anthology series from “Black Mirror” writer Will Bridges and actor/comedian Brett Goldstein.
The yet-to-be-titled series is set 15 years in the future, when science makes a discovery that changes the lives of everyone on the planet – a way to find your soul mate.
Each of the series’ six episodes will feature a new story on the cost of finding true love. Bridges and Goldstein previously created the short film “For Life,” which serves as the basis for the new series.
The project represents AMC’s first foray into non-serialized story-telling.
“The show explores how technological innovation can impact the most delicate matters of the heart, and each episode will turn personal life choices into high-stakes drama. It’s a fresh yet relatable idea, portrayed through wildly entertaining tales with unexpected twists, humor, and meaningful emotion,” said David Madden, president of programming for AMC.

- With the world embracing Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, it's perhaps become "safe" to embrace future narratives that display a side of India without the feel good dance number finale. Comparisons between the Oscar best Picture winner and everything that comes after it is inevitable - but My Beautiful Laundrette and Sammy and Rosie Get Laid scribe Hanif Kureishi's take on Aravind Adiga’s novel The White Tiger should be a dark one that has extreme poverty and outlandish wealth of India in clear view. The novel is told by the Pov of Balram Halwai - the smartest boy in his village, a community deep in the "Darkness" of rural India. Balram is the son of a rickshaw-puller; his family is too poor for him to be able to finish school, and instead he has to work in a teashop, breaking coals and wiping tables. Through these experiences,

John Hart's newly formed Smuggler Films has signed on its first project, acquiring rights to the India-themed Man Booker Prize winner "The White Tiger."
Aravind Adiga wrote the novel, which like Oscar heavyweight "Slumdog Millionaire" centers on class tensions in contemporary India.
The book, which took Britain's top literary prize last year, tells the story of Balram Halwai, a rough-around-the-edges, politically incorrect rickshaw driver who struggles to escape his lower caste and poor upbringing by taking a driving job for a wealthy boss -- and winds up committing a murder.
Critics have noted that the book purposefully paints an unglamorous portrait of a changing India.
Producers said this project offers a decidedly darker message than Danny Boyle's best picture winner. "While 'Slumdog' paints a romantic portrait of the rising India, in which anyone can be a millionaire, 'The White Tiger' suggests that to succeed, murder may be the only option,...
