Acorn TV unveiled the first season three photo from Harry Wild starring Emmy winner Jane Seymour and announced a premiere date. The popular mystery series will kick off the new six-episode season on Monday, May 13, 2024 on Acorn and BBC America.

Parent company AMC Networks is giving the streamer a brand refresh with a new logo and tagline ahead of the return of its originals slate. This comes as it prepares for the launch of season three of Harry Wild, the drama starring Jane Seymour.

The series will return to Acorn TV on May 13 and will have a co-premiere on AMC Networks-backed BBC America. Prime Video has revealed the official trailer for the new Irish Original comedy series, ‘Lol: Last One Laughing Ireland,’ ahead of the series global launch on 19th January 2024.

Series star and executive producer Jane Seymour will reprise her titular role in a third season of Harry Wild. Acorn TV officially announced the mystery series has been renewed for season three and is targeting a 2024 premiere.

With his 2009 musical romance Once, writer-director John Carney laid the groundwork for all of his subsequent films. London-based WestEnd Films has boarded animated film Puffin Rock And The New Friends from Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon and Northern Ireland’s Dog Ears.

WestEnd will launch sales at EFM and has revealed the first image.

Currently in post-production, the film is based on the TV series Puffin Rock and follows the familiar birds trying to find the last egg of the season after it disappears under mysterious circumstances.

Chris O’Dowd (My Father’s Dragon) and Amy Huberman (A Cat Called Jam) have signed on to lead the voice cast of Puffin Rock and the New Friends, a new animated feature from WestEnd Films in collaboration with Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon and Northern Ireland’s Dog Ears.

The pic is currently in post-production, and WestEnd will launch sales at EFM where it will be showing buyers footage of the film.

Based on the Irish TV series Puffin Rock, the feature is directed by Jeremy Purcell, whose credits include the animated TV series Joe and Jack as well as the original Puffin Rock series and the animated features Song of the Sea and The Secret of Kells.

The AMC Networks family has renewed a pair of shows.

Acorn TV is bringing back Jane Seymour’s Harry Wild for a second season and AMC+’s short-form series Cooper’s Bar is also getting a sophomore run.

The Anglo-centric streamer said that Harry Wild delivered its most successful premiere week in its history when it launched in April. It will return in 2023 with another eight episodes.

Seymour stars as Harriet “Harry” Wild, a retiring university literature professor who is finding herself at one of life’s crossroads. In season one, jolted from a mugging, Harry reluctantly agrees to recover in the home of her son, Charlie, played by Kevin Ryan, a senior police detective. Charlie’s family does their best to tolerate Harry’s inscrutable ways, but Harry speaks her mind. Despite Charlie’s strong objections and warnings, Harry starts to interfere in her son’s particularly baffling murder case...

Paramount Plus has announced that its upcoming live-action “The Fairly Oddparents: Fairly Odder” series will premiere March 31.

Season 1 of “The Fairly Oddparents: Fairly Odder” will be made up of 13 episodes. The series follows Nickelodeon’s animated “The Fairly OddParents” program, which ran from 2001-2017 and focused on the adventures of Timmy Turner and his fairy godparents, Wanda and Cosmo, who magically granted wishes.

The latest chapter is set to focus on Timmy’s cousin, Vivian “Viv” Turner (Audrey Grace Marshall), and her stepbrother, Roy Raskin (Tyler Wladis), as the two face life in Dimmsdale with the help of the fairy godparents. In addition to Marshall and Wladis “The Fairly Oddparents: Fairly Odder” will also star Laura Bell Bundy as Rachel Raskin, Ryan-James Hatanaka as Ty Turner and Imogen Cohen as Zina Zacarias. Original voice cast Susanne Blakeslee and Daran Norris return to voice Wanda and Cosmo (who remain animated in the new series), respectively.

Acorn TV, AMC Network’s British programming focused streamer, is to launch in the U.K. at the end of the month.

Launching on April 29 with dramas such as ITV’s “Foyle’s War” and the BBC’s “Keeping Faith” as well as the British-produced Acorn TV original “Queens of Mystery,” the service will charge £4.99 ($6.20) per month in the U.K. or £49.99 ($62) a year.

Acorn TV claims more than one million paid subscribers in the U.S., where it offers dramas, mysteries and comedies from the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Scandinavia.

Acorn TV is offering a 30-day free trial for a limited time, and will be available on devices such as Roku, Fire TV, Android, Apple mobile and Apple TV, and says it is coming soon to Amazon Channels and Apple TV Channels.

Cnmc Sanctions Mediaset and Atresmedia for Anticompetitive Practices

Spain’s Comisión Nacional de los Mercados y la Competencia – Cnmc has levied sanctions totaling €77.1 million ($85 million) – split almost 50/50 – against the country’s two biggest broadcasters, Mediaset and Atresmedia, for the claimed practice of anti-trust policies in the booking of TV advertising. According to the Cnmc, the two developed policies in the sale of TV ads which resulted in a joint market share between their channels exceeding 85% of the entire TV advertising market in Spain, deemed as a higher figure than should exist in a competitive market.

And so the calendar closes on yet another TV year. As critics start to assemble year-end best lists and look forward to what the next 12 months might have in store, there’s still a final flurry of new original programming to sift through before 2018 fades away.

Per usual, these are spread out across broadcast, cable, and subscription services, this time with an extra peppering of original films debuting on TV airtime. With plenty of other options to juggle as 2018 closes, allow this one final collection to cap off the bunch.

The new action film “Kill Ratio” follows American covert operative James Henderson (Tom Hopper) who is on a business conference with his inexperienced colleague, Gabrielle (Amy Huberman) to bring capitalism to a newly democratized Eastern European republic. But soon the city is rocked by explosions and gunfire and it’s up to James and Gabrielle to hide president Tania Petrenko (Lacy Moore) from Colonel Lazar (Nick Dunning), an old guard military man and leader of a coup. The film is directed by Paul Tanter, who previously directed “The Rise & Fall of a White Collar Hooligan,” about an unemployed soccer fan who becomes a credit card fraudster and gangster. He eventually followed this up with two sequels.

The plot involves an American covert operative who becomes the one man who can save an entire country when a "ruthless military leader" attempts a coup. Tom Hopper (from "Black Sails", "Merlin" and Knights of Badassdom) stars, with Lacy Moore, Amy Huberman, Nick Dunning, Conor Hegarty, Brian McGuinness and Michelle Lehane. Acorn Media Enterprises is continuing its move into originals, teaming with Blinder Films, Dcd Rights and RTÉ as the North American co-producing partner on Irish legal drama Striking Out. The series will premiere on Ireland’s RTÉ in early 2017 and make its U.S. debut on Acorn TV next year.

Fresh off its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival last month, the film is co-written by director John Butler and one of the lead actors, Peter McDonald, and adopts a theme of “what has happened to men?” Practically forced to go on a camping trip by the bride, the six buddies eschew their ritualistic smartphone lives and rough it as fellow travelers, anchored by the loose cannon in the group, The Machine. This works as a bit of an Irish “Big Chill,” with similar emotional bonds and dramatic transitions occurring over one event-filled weekend. There...

It makes sense that, given the overwhelming financial success of "The Hangover" franchise, other films would take that formula (of a bachelor party weekend spun wildly out of control) and try to put their unique stamp on the situation. So far we've already had "21 and Over" ("The Hangover" in college), "Last Vegas" ("The Hangover" with old dudes) and, of course, the cream of the crop, "Bridesmaids" ("The Hangover" from the bride's side). What makes "The Bachelor Weekend" originally titled "The Stag" in Ireland) work, is that it is not content to merely replicate "The Hangover" formula with a slight alternation, but rather seeks to actively dismantle and the already established conventions, forging its own sweetly subversive path. The differences between "The Hangover" and "The Bachelor Weekend" are noticeable from the get-go: the bride-to-be Ruth (Amy Huberman) visits the best man Davin (Andrew Scott aka Moriarty from BBC's "Sherlock") and begs him to take her.

John Michael McDonagh’s Calvary picked up a hat-trick of awards at the 11th Irish Film & Television Awards on Saturday night including Best Film, Best Script and Best Actor, for Brendan Gleeson’s performance as a good-natured priest who must battle dark forces. The actor beat competition including his son Domhnall Gleeson, nominated for his role in About Time.

The ceremony in Dublin also saw Stephen Frears’s Philomena walk away with three prizes including Best International Film, Best Costume for the work of Consolata Boyle, and Best International Actress, for Judi Dench’s performance as a woman searching for her long lost son. Philomena Lee, whose true life story inspired the film, was in attendance

★★★☆☆ You'd perhaps be forgiven for thinking that John Butler's The Stag (2013), co-written and starring Peter McDonald, might be in the vein of Bridesmaids (2011) or Bachelorette (2012) before it. What we actually get is a surprisingly tender Irish comedy, which traverses the depths of modern masculine identity, whilst aping the tropes of the genre. Fionnan (Hugh O'Conor) is a set designer about to marry the love of his life, Ruth (Amy Huberman). But Fionnan is not a man's man. He spends his day, not considering the end of his bachelorhood, but instead wrapped up in the finer details of the wedding plan, even going to the trouble of making a detailed diorama of the big day.

The mighty stag still holds a lot of comedy value, so much so Jon Turteltaub tried to do a geriatric version of The Hangover recently with Last Vegas that spawned a lukewarm response, even with a stellar cast onboard. Debut writer-director John Butler has tried to cash in on this fertile ground with his Irish version, The Stag, that boasts the stunning vistas of the Irish countryside as opposed to Vegas. The result is a safe and sanitised jaunt that disappointingly plays to caricature and the Carry On days of (giggle, giggle) ‘naughty’ nudity.
