The “Escape Room” sub-genre of horror seems to be picking up a bit of pace the last few years, coinciding with the popularity of real-life escape rooms. Personally, I haven’t been to one in real-life and the handful of movies I have seen based on them have ranged in quality, without any being outstanding. Is there a great movie with this basic story? Well, perhaps it has already been made because two of my favourite horror movies in Saw (2004) and Cube (1997) are basically escape room movies before that became a thing. It’s very hard to show any originality with these types of films but these two classics show you can, does Escape: Puzzle of Fear follow suit?
I guess the main thing this movie has going for it,...

The Nesting is a supernatural thriller from director Quinn Saunders. Previously titled Remorse, this film deals with a man, tormented by grief. Now, ghosts and hauntings linger everywhere as Doug (Jody Quigley) relives a tragedy, over and over again. This title stars Katrina Law, Lili Bordán and Airen DeLaMater. An early trailer and stills for The Nesting are hosted here. The film begins with the death of Doug's fiancee, Lori (Law). She dies violently in a car accident. Doug finds some solace in an isolated cabin. But, he also finds memories at this locale, which a spirit will not let him forget. The first trailer for the film is here. The clip shows Doug settling in to the cabin. A neighbour comes by, but she might not be who she appears to be. One part psychological thriller and one part ghost story, The Nesting will be releasing soon, once completed.

The modern British gangster movies are strange beasts, and I admit I do have a weakness for them. With acting that is often questionable and stories that tend to be on the sillier side of crime thrillers they have a charm that can even survive a Danny Dyer starring role (that was a joke, don’t bite my head off). The Smoke, to be fair, only takes a gentle stroll into the British gangster movie style, though it does feature some actors that you’ve seen in them before, and more bizarrely more than its fair share of soap stars too.

The notorious fracking L.A. traffic did its best to derail the 35th Anniversary Battlestar Galactica panel that kicked off WonderCon 2013.
Thankfully, star of the original and re-imagined BSG Richard Hatch, scientific advisor Kevin Grazier, and Producer Michael Taylor soldiered on even without Ellen Tigh and Lili Bordan (who arrived about halfway through — just in time for the favorite episode question). Right after a special encore showing of the 30th Anniversary tribute, Hatch and crew went straight to audience questions which ran the gamut from the nostalgic to the technical.
Below, check out a few of the things we learned from the panel.

The Blood and Chrome soundtrack gets released today at 1 pm Pst.
The first 200 copies sold are signed by Bear McCreary.
You can get the CD at LALALandRecords.com.
All the BSG soundtracks, including the one from the Caprica pilot, are also available.
Last word on the Caprica soundtrack is that it is now coming in May, not April as previously announced. No exact date yet, so stay tuned.
And in case anyone else was wondering:
Everyone is asking me if #BloodAndChrome score will be released digitally. Short answer: probably. But not in the next couple months.

La-La Land Records announces the release of two new soundtracks Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome on March 12th and Caprica: Original Television Soundtrack in April. Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica) composed the music for both series.

Chicago – There are so many lens flares in the hazy, visually drab “Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome” that it looks like J.J. Abrams sneezed on the lens. And that’s not all “Galactica” creators Michael Taylor and David Eick took as inspiration from Abrams’ slickly generic yet crowd-pleasing “Star Trek” installments. Yet this latest attempt at rebooting the beloved sci-fi franchise is a complete misfire.
Originally proposed as the premise for a gaming system, the plot for “Blood & Chrome” emerged as the potential pilot for a new “Galactica” program (thankfully, SyFy opted against the idea). Going in the polar opposite direction of Eick’s superbly crafted, woefully short-lived prequel series, “Caprica,” “B&C” favors jittery handheld camerawork and derivative action set-pieces over provocative ideas and compelling characters. All that unites the two shows is their irritating overuse of the fearsome F-word, “frak,” which is perhaps the least amusing running gag in television history.

This highly anticipated chapter in the Battlestar Galactica saga takes place in the midst of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, the sentient robotic Cylons, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, gifted fighter pilot, William Adama (Luke Pasqualino, The Borgias), finds himself assigned to one of the most powerful battlestars in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica. Full of ambition and hungry for action, Adama quickly finds himself at odds with his co-pilot, the battle-weary officer Coker (Ben Cotton, Alcatraz). Honestly, I’m not gonna be one of those pathetic girls whose world stops spinning because of Black Friday. Cause I’m not a girl, not yet a shopaholic.
Even better than online stores, we’ve got the fifth and sixth episodes of Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome to be soo freakin grateful for. After all, the best things in life are free, fresh from SyFy and Machinima!
Episode 5 drops us right back into the middle of the Cylon battle and an explosive moment for all involved. Meanwhile, the young and cocksure Adama (Luke Pasqualino), surly and war-weary co-pilot Coker (Ben Cotton) and Dr. Kelly (Lili Bordan), who draws the others into her work on a secret mission, get stranded on a remote planet.
In episode 6, the action finally quiets back down and starts injecting some of the original Battlestar‘s humor as we get to see a little more about...

We are loving the webisodes of Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome. It’s fun, if mildly frustrating, to watch them in serialized form like they did back in the ol’ days in the movie theaters, but we admit we’re also looking forward to getting that Blu-ray in February!
Please note that the final episode will be going live on December 7, not November 30 as we were told originally. Also note that, if you’re seeing this in time, showrunner David Eick will reportedly be live commenting on the Machinima Prime video at 1pm Pacific time today.
Otherwise, feel free to watch episodes 3 and 4 right here and now, below the press release (and please note that the episodes 3 and 4 are presented as one continuous episode).

Hopefully you have watched – hopefully more than once – the first two webisodes of Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome that premiered last Friday on Machinima Prime and posted here on SciFiMafia.com. The effects, the action, the storyline, the cast, it’s all great.
Episodes, each 7-12 minutes long, will continue to premiere on Machinima Prime every Friday through the end of the month, will be released on Blu-ray on February 19, 2013, and will premiere as a complete movie on Syfy in the first quarter of 2013.
In support of the premiere, Executive Producer Ron Eick participated in a Q&A panel last Friday to answer some questions and to set the record straight about Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome‘s plans to air on Syfy, some hopeful plans for the future, and more. He was joined by series star Luke Pasqualino later in the panel.

Machinima has posted the first two episodes of Blood and Chrome. You can watch them below. New episodes will be posted every Friday on the Machinima Prime YouTube channel, and the finale will be available on November 30.
CG Society has an interview with Doug Drexler (CG Supervisor) and Gary Hutzel (VFX Supervisor). You can read the full article at the link.
Blood & Chrome was a natural progression for Hutzel and his team, as they moved out of Caprica. In the last half of the season, the artists working on Caprica started to expand the show’s VFX footprint by doing entire virtual sets—something they perfected in Blood & Chrome.
Blood & Chrome is, nonetheless, a departure from previous productions in the franchise. “The show is unusual in the sense that it is cut very, very fast,” Hutzel describes. In fact, most of the shots in the two-hour movie span three seconds or less.

The long awaited Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome series has a new trailer and a release date! The series wasn't picked up by SyFy, but the two hour pilot episode will now be released online as a web-series on Machinima's YouTube channel. The first episode of the series will be released online this Friday, November 9th. The rest of the episodes will premiere over the next four weeks. It's set to air on the SyFy Channel in early 2013, followed by the release of an ‘unrated’ version on DVD and Blu-ray. I think it looks really good!

Well, holy frak. The sequel has a release date.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Blood and Chrome will be released online on Machinima Prime's YouTube Channel in ten 7-12-minute installments starting this Friday, November 9.
The full two-hour pilot will air on Syfy early next year, and an unrated version will be released on home video some time after that.
Refresher course from EW (because it's been a while):
For those who haven’t followed the B&C saga, the project was originally developed as a series for Syfy following the conclusion of the critically beloved Battlestar Galactica reboot and its movie spin-offs The Plan and Razor. BSG vets David Eick and Michael Taylor are executive producers, with Taylor writing the script from a story by Eick, Bradley Thompson and David Weddle. Jonas Pate (Caprica) directed.
The prequel follows young William Adama (Luke Pasqualino, UK’s Skins) during the first Cylon War.
