Los Angeles-based producer and global sales veteran Pia Patatian is looking to soar even higher with the launch of her new production, sales and financing company Cloud9 Studios. Patatian debuted the company as Concord Studios on the eve of AFM last year but has since rebranded to the more optimistic-sounding Cloud9 (avoiding a possible copyright infringement case along the way), and is primed, at the European Film Market in Berlin, to bring some much-needed hope to the battered indie theatrical industry.

As the European Film Market kicks off Feb. 13 in Berlin with a new market head, Tanja Meissner, at the helm, this year’s buzziest titles suggest the industry will be looking toward tried-and-true genre fare and splashy, star-driven packages to thaw the winter chill.
Bankable stars are expected to heat things up in Berlin, with Ari Aster and A24’s “Eddington”, Guy Ritchie’s “Wife & Dog”, Ernest Dickerson’s untitled hitman thriller and Kantemir Balagov’s “Butterfly Jam” showcasing how marquee names remain a safe bet as uncertainty continues to reign in the theatrical market.
On the genre side of things, horror is still expected to scare up sales, with buyers looking to sink their fangs into Isabelle Huppert’s 16th-century vampire mystery “The Blood Countess” and Jacob Chase’s killer canine genre-bender “Bad Boy,” starring Ke Huy Quan and Lili Reinhart. Meanwhile, comedy could be making a comeback,...

Channing Tatum is a beloved part of the film industry. Having one of the most bizarre filmographies, he has starred in everything from Step Up and She’s the Man to Deadpool & Wolverine. Actors often put parts of themselves into their characters, but there are some roles which speak to them on a deeper level. Over the years, several high-profile actors have taken on roles that reflect aspects of their real lives, whether this relates to their past experiences, their public persona or their development as an artist. In some cases, these roles are specifically crafted with the actor in mind, but it can also be a surprising coincidence.
Many actors produce their best work when they can relate to their characters in depth. These types of roles are also a great way for inexperienced actors to get started in the industry. From teen comedies to prestige dramas, there have been plenty of movies which have benefited from close similarities between an actor and a character. Audiences can often find an extra layer of enjoyment by comparing the character on-screen with what they...

The best Magic Mike quotes and quips from the Channing Tatum-led franchise show why Steven Soderbergh's comedy about male strippers is such an international hit. The world of Magic Mike is partially inspired by Tatum's own experiences as a male stripper in Florida. That authentic feel of the franchise was fed by real-life stories that Tatum provided to Soderbergh, resulting in a rich and fun adventure that thrilled audiences.

The MCU is gearing up to introduce the Mutants, something we’ve known since Disney acquired Fox. While you could argue that the Mutants have already made a few brief appearances, the X-Men themselves haven’t yet entered the MCU.
Although their full debut is still some time away, Marvel has promised a major introduction in the future.
Even though we don’t know all the details, it’s clear that Feige and Marvel are taking their time to get it right. The X-Men’s arrival in the MCU will be a major moment and will shape the franchise for years to come.
Given the importance of this debut, fans are understandably anxious about who Marvel will cast. With an already-established X-Men universe, comparisons between the old and new casts are inevitable.

Now, even if we are unaware of all the specifics, we are confident that Feige and Marvel want to do this correctly because the X-Men’s MCU debut will be significant and will influence the franchise for years to come.

Magic Mike is set to debut on Netflix on September 1. The 2012 drama, which was written by Reid Carolin and directed by Steven Soderbergh, stars Channing Tatum in the title role as Mike Lane, a Tampa-based stripper who dreams of owning a furniture business. The cast features a robust ensemble that includes Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Cody Horn, Olivia Munn, Matt Bomer, Riley Keough, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez, and Gabriel Iglesias.
The Channing Tatum movie, which spawned an entire Magic Mike trilogy, was well-received at the time, both critically and commercially. At the time of writing, the movie holds a Certified Fresh score of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. It was also a smash box office hit, grossing $167.2 million worldwide against a small budget of just $7 million.

Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is heading straight to Prime Video in the UK with a July date now confirmed.
Well, it’s official. Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare won’t be heading to UK cinemas and will premiere on Prime Video at the tail end of July.
We already had a sneaking suspicion this might happen after the film premiered in US cinemas all the way back in April, with no UK release date in sight, but it’s still a tad disappointing. You can watch the film on a smaller screen from 25th July when it’ll be available on Prime Video.
Here’s the film’s synopsis: Based upon recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspired by true events, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is an action-comedy, that tells the story of the first-ever special forces organization formed...

Guy Ritchie, Hollywood’s busiest man, is already setting up his next film. World Of Reel reports that Ritchie’s next film will be called Wife & Dog. The film is heading to the Cannes market in the hopes it’ll find more backing there.
That’s all we really know at this point. World Of Reel mentions that the film is said to tackle the subject of class like his recent Netflix TV show The Gentlemen loosely based on a true story – the top secret Operation Postmaster.
The Snatch director is quickly gaining a reputation as the hardest working filmmaker in Hollywood. In the last five years, Ritchie has released six films and a TV show. He’s also currently filming Fountain Of Youth with Natalie Portman and John Krasinski.

The overriding message this market? “There’s a lot”.

They continued: “After a busy EFM, once again it feels like a healthy market in terms of product. The early responses from the sellers and indie buyers has been good. Those international distributors have re-stabilised their business somewhat, more so than the streamers. We’ll know more in a week but at the moment there are plenty of decently priced projects with meaningful actors, directors and scripts, and there is a good spread of projects.”
There’s Kristen Stewart returning on a vampire movie, Dwayne Johnson in a big-budget A24 wrestling movie, Mahershalah Ali in a gritty big-canvas crime movie, a couple of Jason Statham projects for those who want brawn, historical drama with Russell Crowe, a YA empowerment pic with Chris Pratt,...

Eiza Gonzlez excels in singing in "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare," suggesting she should accept a musical role next. Gonzlez has a singing background and should consider returning to her roots in musical movies. Director Guy Ritchie spontaneously incorporated Gonzlez's singing in the film, as it wasn't in the original script.
Eiza Gonzlez's 2024 movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare contains a scene that points toward what her next project should be, and it's frankly shocking that the actress has barely dabbled in this genre.
