Great American Family has announced the new, original movie, Grounded, starring Danica McKellar and Trevor Donovan. The movie is adapted from the bestselling novel of the same title by Angela Correll and is set to premiere in the spring of 2025. According to the press release, Annie (McKellar) is a career flight attendant who loves her job and traveling the world. However, her career is dealt a blow when an airline merger causes her to be furloughed. Moreover, matters get worse as she breaks up with a selfish boyfriend.

Trevor Donovan and producer Brian Bird have teamed up to create a series of “edutainment”-style films via Birds’ production company True Brand Entertainment, Variety has learned exclusively.

These films will be in the tradition of the popular “after school specials,” which became staples of American pop culture. The projects will explore many struggles teenagers and young adults are facing today, including substance abuse, equality, bullying and inclusion issues.

“These scripted narratives will be fun and humorous presentations of contemporary issues which inspire and uplift, just as they did in the original series,” says Donovan, who rose to fame on “90210,” playing the show’s only Lgbtqi+ series regular character. “That model worked well back then, and after twenty years, the lessons and storytelling that entertained Gen-x should be enjoyed again.”

Bird, who co-created “When Calls the Heart” and “When Hope Calls,” feels that now is the perfect time for the project.

Melissa Bolona has booked the lead role in indie thriller Murder At The Mansion, which is currently filming in Kentucky. Sam Irvin is directing the film that follows Ruby (Bolona) a Child adopted into an affluent family who struggles to mediate the chaos roiling around her as she plans her impending wedding at her fiancé’s family’s lavish countryside estate. Anna Hutchison (The Cabin in the Woods), Madison McKinley (The Wolf of Wall Street), and James McCaffrey (Max Payne) co-star in the pic from Stargazer Films. Bolona, who recently appeared in Acts Of Violence starring Bruce Willis, is repped by Luber Roklin Entertainment and Innovative Artists.

“90210” alum Trevor Donovan will play a fighter pilot in the World War II action movie “Wolf Hound,” Variety has learned exclusively.

“Wolf Hound” is inspired by the real-life plot designed to fly Allied aircraft as Trojan horses behind enemy lines. The action takes place in 1944 as a fighter pilot escorts a B-17 bomber into Nazi territory and engages in a one-on-one aerial joust with a Nazi ace pilot, destroying both of their planes and forcing them to bail out and parachute to the forest floor.

Donovan will play German ace Major Erich Roth. Donovan’s real-life grandfather served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, along with his uncle Cedrick, who was in the Army and received two Purple Hearts. James Maslow will also star in “Wolf Hound” as a fighter pilot for the Allies.

Michael B. Chait will be making his feature directorial debut with “Wolf Hound.

“Hot Water” starts principle photography this summer on Lake Havasu in Arizona and is currently shooting second-unit action sequences around the country at various pro jet ski competitions.

Larry Rippenkroeger, a champion jet skier who has credits as a stuntman in more than 150 feature films and TV shows, is directing from his own script. His recent stunt credits include “Transformers: The Last Knight” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” Rippenkroeger is producing with Vince Palomino, Paula Rippenkroeger, and Michael Yanni in what’s described as an homage to the action-comedy movies of the 1980s and 1990s.
