Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is not your average Hollywood story. It’s a blend of history, fantasy, and nostalgia wrapped in an timeless package.
Set in 1969, it immerses you in the world of rising counterculture and a Hollywood at a crossroads. The movie blends real-life people and events, like Sharon Tate, Bruce Lee, and Charles Manson, with made-up characters like Rick Dalton and Cliff Booth.
Lena Dunham, Margaret Qualley, and Brad Pitt in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (Credits: Columbia Pictures)
And of course, this is Tarantino we’re talking about, so he doesn’t just stick to the facts—he flips them upside down. Instead of just telling the story as it happened, the director uses his signature style to create something totally unpredictable. This movie stands out because it’s a love letter to Hollywood’s golden era.

Some stories are worth telling, and some… well, they’re meant to be told in a way that sparks fire, controversy, and, quite frankly, a bit of a stir. But why does art sometimes paint a picture of our heroes that doesn’t quite match our own cherished view? Quentin Tarantino, a maestro of bold storytelling and cinematic flair, has often danced on the razor’s edge of controversy, and his portrayal of martial arts legend Bruce Lee in Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood offers no exception.

Sydney Sweeney has been steadily acting for over 15 years, but her big break, arguably, did not come until 2019’s Euphoria. Like Euphoria, many of Sweeney’s early roles in her career have been on television, but she has expanded into movies as well with blockbusters like Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, horror like Immaculate, and rom-coms like Anyone But You.
Sweeney might have a reputation for appearing like a classic blonde bombshell, but she appears in movies and TV projects as more than simply a sex symbol. Her roles have been varied, even if they are not always as well received, like 2024’s Madame Web, her first foray into the superhero genre. Sweeney has more than demonstrated that she has a well of emotion to tap into and a great grasp of the characters she plays. These are Sydney Sweeney’s best movie and TV roles in her...

Ana de Armas hasn't been in the Hollywood spotlight for very long, but she has already delivered a string of fantastic performances which show her talents as an actor. While she hasn't always been in movies that match her quality, she can always be relied upon to provide a magnetic on-screen presence. The Cuban-born actor started her career acting in Spanish-language movies and TV shows before making her English-language acting debut in 2015.
Since 2015, Ana de Armas has shown her talents in a variety of genres, including dramas, sci-fi, comedy and action. Her biggest hits include huge blockbusters such as No Time to Die and Knives Out, and she seems to have a bright future ahead of her. In Quentin Tarantino's 2019 film "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood," Leonardo DiCaprio plays Rick Dalton, a largely mediocre TV actor who has coasted through his career on scant charm and a willingness to be beaten up on camera. Dalton typically played heavies and villains on TV Westerns, so little has traditionally been required from him as a performer. The year is now 1969, however, and Dalton is concerned that his mediocrity is catching up with him. He drinks too much and raves about how he can't remember his lines. It's not until he has a notably good day on the set of "Lancer" (a very real TV series) that his ego gets repaired a little.
Rick's buddy and personal assistant, stuntman Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) is also facing a downward turn in his Hollywood career, unable to get work after he murdered his wife and got away with it. Cliff...

Keanu Reeves has been at the forefront of some of cinema's most important franchises, including "The Matrix" and "John Wick." Even one of his biggest bombs has, against all odds, also become a franchise. Reeves starred in Universal's tremendously expensive blockbuster "47 Ronin" back in 2013. It was a major flop at the time and actually hurt the actor's career a bit. But nearly a full decade later, everything came full circle, and a sequel to that flop was released. Yes, was! As in, it already came out ... last year.
"Blade of the 47 Ronin" is a sequel to the movie in question, and debuted in 2022. One would be forgiven for not realizing it, as it wasn't quite as big as the original, to put it mildly. Unfortunately, Reeves didn't return for the follow-up, but for those who enjoyed that film, there is a sequel out there you can watch right now.

Bruce Lee's daughter reflects on Quentin Tarantino's controversial portrayal of her father in 2019's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Reiterating comments she made when the movie was released, Shannon Lee believes Tarantino's image of her father stems mostly from the stories of white men who didn't understand him. Tarantino has previously defended his portrayal of Lee, standing by his beliefs that the martial artist could be arrogant at times.
Quentin Tarantino's controversial depiction of Bruce Lee in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is revisited by Shannon Lee, the martial arts legend's daughter. Released in 2019, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is Tarantino's ode to movie-making in 1960s Los Angeles, earning strong reviews and becoming a box office hit. One aspect of the film that remains divisive, however, involves a scene in which Brad Pitt's Cliff Booth fights Lee (Mike Moh) on the set of The Green Hornet.

Shannon Lee, daughter of the legendary actor and martial artist Bruce Lee, recently told The Telegraph that she remains unaware why Quentin Tarantino decided to portray her father as “the a-hole” in his 2019 movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Shannon Lee spoke out against the film’s portrayal of Bruce Lee at the time, which led to a highly-publicized back and forth between her and Tarantino in many interviews.
“It’s interesting. I actually don’t know,” Shannon says now about the reasoning behind Tarantino’s controversial portrayal of Bruce Lee. “I’ve never met [Tarantino]. I don’t know what his issues are with my father. Clearly, he thinks my father is cool, because he has borrowed from him quite a bit. But at the same time, I think he has been told a lot of stories by people who have encountered my father and had a negative reaction.

The movie may be titled “Ghosted,” but audiences aren’t having a hard time finding it. That’s according to an excusive report from Deadline, which cites data from Samba TV that shows “Ghosted” became the most-watched movie premiere in the history of Apple TV+ in the two days following its April 21 release.

Samba’s numbers indicate that “Ghosted” was seen by 328,500 viewers in that time. That beats out every other Apple TV+ movie release, including popular titles like “Finch”, “Spirited”, and “Tetris”. The data was sourced from a group of 3.1 million Samba TV households, who watched “Ghosted” for at least one minute on between April 21 and 23.
The numbers may not seem that impressive when put in that context, but Deadline’s sources are also saying that “Ghosted” has seen a 20% higher completion rate than the average Apple TV+ movie. People aren’t just...

After nearly a decade of seeing Chris Evans as Captain America in the MCU, it might be a bit of an adjustment to see him be the guy who’s the exact opposite of an action hero in “Ghosted.” But, according to the film’s director, Evans was very meticulous about making sure he was underskilled on screen this time.

Ghosting is an Apple TV+ film directed by Dexter Fletcher and starring Chris Evans, Ana de Armas and Adrien Brody.

Hard to believe, but we’ve not taken a trip into “rom-com” land in 2023. Really? Has this staple been dormant for several months, but with those warmer Spring temps, well, where do most hearts venture? Oh, and since we’re getting nearer to Summer this one’s a hybrid as it’s really a “rom-com-spy-thriller”.This isn’t rare as we’ve seen this played out for at least 30 years, going back to Arnold and new Oscar darling Jamie Lee in True Lies (which inspired a recent CBS TV series). And in the last dozen or so years we’ve had the big “spy reveals” in Knight And Day (Tom Cruise) and Killer (Ashton Kutcher), not to mention the double reveal in Mr. And Mrs. Smith (Bradgilina begins). Well, this new one has a bit of a twist in that the undercover agent is a lady. Plus it also takes...

There is a lesson Hollywood can learn from Apple TV+’s action romcom Ghosted: if you want to tell a story about a schlub who falls for a spy, don’t cast Captain America as the ordinary one. It’s just asking too much of your audience. You can’t present us with Chris Evans as a guy named Cole Riggan and then argue he’s the polar opposite to Ana de Armas’ ass-kicking, CIA operative Sadie. When Evans falls, he doesn’t flail his limbs about like us mere mortals. When he has to pose as a legendary agent and break bread with the enemy (Adrien Brody’s Leveque), there’s a smirk on his face that reads as a little too confident, a little too in control. You don’t get the sense this guy even sweats.

Chris Evans saved the world (and even the universe) multiple times as Captain America. But in his latest Apple TV+ action film “Ghosted,” it’s Ana de Armas who’s doing the rescuing.
“It was great. The story of the 47 Ronin is one of the most famous tales of the Samurai era. A story that has been passed down over the years and made into numerous films. It's a classic saga of betrayal, loyalty and sacrifice that makes it perfect for cinematic treatment. The Hollywood version in 2013 proved controversial in it's addition of fantasy elements and the casting of Keanu Reeves in the lead role. In addition to this controversy it was also critically panned. That alone makes the idea of a sequel daunting viewing. Those familiar with the story will also know that it's not exactly one that allows for a follow up. I'm sure the producers will have thought of that and have a completely compelling new narrative for this potential issue…..right??

Donnie Yen has shared his view on Quentin Tarantino’s controversial depiction of Bruce Lee in his latest film.
In Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a fictionalised version of the martial arts star, played by Mike Moh, is shown to be offended when Brad Pitt’s character, Cliff Both, mocks him for claiming he could beat Muhammad Ali in a fight.
It’s because of this that, in front of a crowd of people, Lee challenges Cliff to a fight, following which he is humiliated after Cliff beats him by throwing him into a car door.
At the time, Lee’s daughter, Shannon, criticised Tarantino for the “disrespectful” depiction, stating in The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m tired of white men in Hollywood mistaking his confidence, passion, and skill for hubris and therefore finding it necessary to marginalise him and his contributions.”

Donnie Yen believes “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” makes an obvious statement on Bruce Lee.
Yen, who stars in “John Wick: Chapter 4,” addressed the portrayal of fellow martial arts master, late icon Lee, in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 Oscar-winning epic film. The depiction of Lee, played by Mike Moh, showed him being pompous on set and getting beaten up by fictional stuntman Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt).
“Everybody is entitled to their opinions. Quentin Tarantino is a very renowned filmmaker, and he’s entitled to his status – and I’m entitled to state my own view,” Yen told Variety. “Obviously, he was making fun of Bruce. It was cartoonish.”
Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee previously slammed the controversial fictionalized depiction of her father by Moh, claiming that the film made Lee look like “an asshole.”

John Wick 4 star Donnie Yen criticizes Quentin Tarantino’s depiction of Bruce Lee in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. A legendary star of Hong Kong action films, Yen has not always gotten a chance to shine in the Hollywood movies he’s signed up for over the years. But John Wick: Chapter 4 gives Yen arguably his greatest American movie role to date with Caine, a blind assassin who is called out of retirement to kill his old friend John Wick.
Having starred in both Hollywood action films like John Wick 4, alongside all his classic Hong Kong movies, indeed gives Yen a unique and valuable perspective on the way American movies handle Asian characters, and there’s one recent film in particular that the star has a huge problem with. Jean-Claude Van Damme plays Guile in the 1994 Street Fighter movie, but he was far better suited for Ken Masters. Street Fighter debuted during the 1994 holiday season, becoming a box office hit, but earning mostly negative reactions across the board. Street Fighter featured many of the most recognizable combatants from the popular video game franchise, and attracted equally recognizable names from Hollywood also.
Street Fighter debuted at the height of the Jean-Claude Van Damme action movie boom, with Van Damme playing Colonel William Guile, leader of the Allied Nations forces opposing General Bison. While Van Damme's popularity and martial arts skills made him a logical choice to appear in Street Fighter, he was ultimately miscast as Guile. The Street Fighter character Ken Masters, on the other hand, would have fit Van Damme very well.Related: Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter: Which Video Game Movie Was A Bigger Hit

Dating in 2023 is a minefield of unspoken rules, ambiguous texts, and busy people whose relationship timelines rarely align. Trying to navigate the social politics of dating apps in search of a partner for life (or the night) is a complex puzzle that often feels more like a geopolitical espionage mission than good old fashioned courtship. Unless you’re Chris Evans in “Ghosted,” in which case it actually is a geopolitical espionage mission. The latest blockbuster from Apple TV+ stars Evans as a guy who just wants to get a second date with a girl who ghosted him, only to find out that she had a very good reason for not texting him back. His attempts to track her down result in him being kidnapped and sucked into a dangerous adventure — where the only person who can save him might be the person who couldn’t be bothered to respond to his DMs.

Apple TV+ dropped the trailer for the upcoming rom-com turned thriller “Ghosted,” which stars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas.
The trailer shows Evans’ character Cole certain that Sadie (de Armas) is not just “ghosting” him, or ignoring his texts, after one date. Convinced they are meant to be together, he travels to London in what he hopes to be a romantic gesture, only to discover Sadie is not the person he thought, and is actually part of the CIA. What ensues is a spy-thriller where “action speaks louder than words.”
De Armas joins the film after her recent Oscar nomination for “Blonde.” Her credits also include “Deep Water,” “Blade Runner 2049” and “No Time to Die.” Evans has played Captain America in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films, as well as performed in “Before We Go,” “Gifted” and “Playing It Cool.” Evans and de Armas previously acted together in “Knives Out” and “The Gray Man.

With a new Bruce Lee biopic on the way, the film will successfully avoid one major Quentin Tarantino controversy. The biopic in question will be helmed by Oscar-winning director Ang Lee, responsible for such works as Life of Pi and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. In addition, the Taiwanese director has cast his son, Mason Lee, as the famed martial artist in another promising sign for the project. However, aside from the involvement of the Gemini Man director and his son, the movie has another secret weapon that could help it succeed.

A biopic of Bruce Lee is now in the works. A new study claims to shed light on the death of celebrated film star and martial artist Bruce Lee.
The Enter The Dragon actor died in July 1973 at the age of just 32 after suffering a cerebral oedema (swelling of the brain).
The swelling was thought to be a reaction to the tranquiliser meprobamate, which made up part of a painkiller Lee was given called Equagesic.
However, a team of researchers has now suggested that the oedema was caused by hyponatraemia. “In other words, we propose that the kidney’s inability to excrete excess water killed Bruce Lee,” the scientists wrote in the paper published in the Clinical Kidney Journal.
Several factors suggest that Lee may have been consuming unusually high quantities of liquid at the time due to his diet, which consisted of a lot of juices and protein drinks, and the use of marijuana, which causes increased thirst.

But sure enough, Universal 1440 Entertainment, the company’s direct-to-video department, has come up with Blade of the 47 Ronin, a modern-day sequel to the Keanu Reeves samurai epic. And they said there’s no such thing as The Great Pumpkin.
Somewhere in Budapest Yurei kills Arai thought to be the last in the bloodline of those who wielded the Blade of the 47 Ronin. But as he kills him he senses the existence of another heir.
As the other clans argue over what to do about the sword and the prophecy attached to it, Onami one of Lord Shinshiro’s onna-bugeisha reaches out to Reo.

The film was one of the biggest box-office bombs of the year, which made the announcement of a sequel all the more puzzling, but here we are. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment have released an extended clip from Blade of the 47 Ronin, which you can check out above.
