With a career in film composing that has lasted more than 40 years, Hans Zimmer has run the gamut. Despite having a distinct sound that often makes you recognize it as a Zimmer, the man’s work has range: Rain Man, The Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean, Gladiator, Dune…But there are two franchises that Zimmer will absolutely never work within: the MCU and Star Wars.
Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hans Zimmer said that while he has been approached by Marvel, he had a couple of conflicts. “They have, and it was always…timing wasn’t great. And really, quite honestly, I’m looking for other things right now. Look, I’ve done the trifecta — I’ve done Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man, and Wonder Woman! I mean, what do you want me to do, some of the minor characters?” He added, “That was very arrogant of me to say that,...

It’s time to look at the work of one of the greatest directors of our generation: Christopher Nolan. How big is Nolan these days? Interstellar, a movie which was never among the director’s top grossers, hit IMAX screens last week for its tenth anniversary, and screenings have been selling out constantly. The fact is – Nolan makes movies that belong on the big-screen, and he’s one of the few directors who’s arguably become his own franchise. For proof of that, one need only look at the fact that he’s planning a new movie, and the cast is jampacked with A-listers, because Everyone wants to work with Nolan.
A caveat – our Christopher Nolan movies ranked list is just one person’s opinion, and his work is divisive. Everyone has their favourites (and least favourites), so I’m hoping this ranking will open up some discussion in the comments below.

We were hardly surprised that AMPAS’s notoriously insular and tony music branch took a hard pass on Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor’s meme-tastic, Golden Globe- and Critics’ Choice Award-winning score for Challengers. While the branch’s voters welcomed Ross-Reznor to the club long ago (they’ve won twice), one wouldn’t need to examine the history of what’s been shortlisted but snubbed too closely to know that piledriver beats that sound straight out of a poppers trainer video were probably never going to connect with the same demographic that just last year gave John Williams a record-extending 54th Oscar nomination.
.
Of course, getting the nomination is only half the battle, and for all the music branch’s efforts to keep its peers’ most unorthodox work at bay, voters at large feel less resistant these days to taking bigger swings—hence Steven Price’s Gravity beating Alexandre Desplat’s Philomena,...

In a virtual press conference held by Warner Bros. Pictures on Tuesday, January 28, filmmaker Ryan Coogler unveiled the latest trailer for his horror thriller “Sinners.” Starring Michael B. Jordan in the dual role of twin brothers Smoke and Stack, the film is set during one day in 1932 and features a whole host of elements that make it a lot more than your traditional vampire flick.
“The film is very genre fluid,” Coogler said (as per The Hollywood Reporter). “It switches in and out of a lot of different genres. Yes, vampires are an element, but it’s not the only supernatural element in the movie. The film is about more than just that.”
He views the supernatural as something intertwined with the spiritual, with “Sinners” contrasting the religious fervor shared in the light with the subversive blues culture of the time explored in the dark. In making the film, Coogler...

What do you do when you’ve been to the vast reaches of space, reversed the temporal flow, ventured into the dreamscape – and, most importantly, swept the Oscars? With a three-hour, doom-laden, politically-driven historical drama, no less? In the wake of Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan could do basically anything. His choice: go full Homer with an adaptation of epic Greek poem The Odyssey. It should add a new quiver to the legendary director’s bow – his first swords-and-sandals epic, possibly his first fantastical film, and one that brings him a new leading man.
With pre-production rapidly ramping up on Nolan’s next movie, here’s what we know so far:
Tom Holland is said to be the lead
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Tom Holland on our screens – following Uncharted and Apple TV drama The Crowded Room, he’s been treading the boards on the West End in Romeo & Juliet.

Yesterday, a full trailer was released for Sinners, a genre picture and a period piece from frequent collaborators Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan – who have worked on Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever together as director and cast member, and have other collaborations that Coogler didn’t direct. Once the trailer had been unveiled, Entertainment Weekly released a video in which Coogler and Jordan break it down, and now you can watch that video in the embed above. Coogler and Jordan try to avoid spoilers in this video, but they do talk about the film’s setting (it takes place over one day in 1932) and the characters, particularly the twin brothers played Jordan.

Some Marvel fans might still be hoping for a miraculous announcement for Blade, but Ryan Coogler’s Sinners might just fill that void. The filmmaker jumps to his first original since his debut Fruitvale Station with frequent collaborator Michael B. Jordan in the upcoming horror film. The trailers have hinted at being a vampire film set in the Jim Crow era.
Coogler’s last film was MCU’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The filmmaker mentioned that Sinners was far from just a vampire film and was his most personal film yet. He also credited noted filmmaker Christopher Nolan and producer Emma Thomas for guiding him through filming on IMAX cameras.

The marketing for Ryan Coogler's Sinners has been keeping a pretty tight lid on the major plot points up until now, and some fans were growing a little impatient about the lack of undead foes in the teasers for what was originally described as a vampire movie.
Well, Warner Bros. has now released a full trailer for the Black Panther director's Jim Crow-era horror film, and it might just reveal a little too much!
The trailer gives us a much better idea of what to expect from this Southern Gothic tale, making it very clear that Michael B. Jordan's characters (he plays twin brothers) and their allies will be facing-off against some pretty terrifying-looking blood-suckers.
Towards the end of the teaser, however, things do get pretty spoiler-y.

Jordan pulls off dual roles, playing twins. The film also stars Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld (Hawkeye), Jack O’Connell (Ferrari), Wunmi Mosaku (Passenger), Jayme Lawson (The Woman King), Omar Benson Miller (True Lies), and Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods).

It’s always a thrill when a talented filmmaker who’s worked in franchise fare for a while puts all their Hollywood brownie points into making a big, bold, original blockbuster. And while Ryan Coogler brought real identity and perspective to Creed, Black Panther, and Wakanda Forever, he’s creating something all-new with Sinners – an original vampire horror movie, with Michael B. Jordan battling fanged foes in the Deep South. In fact, the actor is Coogler’s lucky charm to such an extent that he’s in Sinners twice, playing twin brothers fighting for survival. Check out the trailer here:
Compared to the last Sinners trailer, which held back from confirming the film’s creatures as full-blown vamps, this one makes it explicit: our heroes are battling blood-suckers, with Jack O’Connell and Hailee Steinfeld among the undead. From Fruitvale Station to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ryan Coogler has established himself as one of the most vital voices in filmmaking over the past 12 years, and now he's stepping into the world of horror with his latest film, Sinners. Ahead of the movie's April 18th release in theaters, Warner Bros. revealed a new trailer for Sinners that sinks its teeth into visceral scares and unveils the vampiric side of its chilling and emotional story.
Daily Dead recently took part in a virtual Sinners trailer preview event with Ryan Coogler hosted by Juju Green. During the insightful conversation about Sinners, Coogler discussed how this film is especially a personal project for him:
My maternal grandfather is from Mississippi. And my uncle James, who passed away while I was finishing up Creed, was also from Mississippi. And it was a place I had never been. My maternal grandfather passed before I was born.

Jordan, who will be playing a dual role in this film. Coogler’s production company Proximity Media is behind the film and it began development a year ago in January 2025.

The film is based on Coogler’s original idea and he also serves as the writer of the project. The film is reportedly a period genre vampire film. Warner Bros. won the bidding war for the distribution rights, beating Sony and Universal to it. The film recently announced a delay in its release date owing to post-production issues.

The 82nd Golden Globe Awards have wrapped and the complete 2025 Golden Globes winners list has been revealed. We now know just how much momentum the leading films have going into the rest of Oscar season, what to keep an eye on over the summer in the lead-up to the Emmys, and that host Nikki Glaser may well become one of Hollywood’s go-to emcees.
“Emilia Pérez,” Jacques Audiard’s Mexico-set Netflix musical, won the most prizes of any film with four: Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy, Best Non-English Language Film, Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña, and Best Original Song “El Mal.” There’s still a full two months of awards season left, but the stage sure seems set for “Emilia Pérez” to be going head to head with “The Brutalist” for Best Picture at the Oscars. Earlier this year, it was revealed that frequent collaborators Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan – who have worked on Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever together as director and cast member, and have other collaborations that Coogler didn’t direct – have been developing a new project in secret. Coogler has written the script for this project, which is called Sinners and has been described as both a genre picture and a period piece. The project is set up at Warner Bros., has a budget of around $90 million, and is scheduled for a theatrical release on April 18, 2025 (having moved back from a previously announced March release date). Over the holidays, a new teaser (which still has the old release date) was unveiled, as embedded at the top of the article.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has an easily missed yet no less impressive connection to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Skeleton Crew, Star Wars’ latest live-action series on Disney+, follows a group of kids who, after finding an abandoned ship on their home planet, find themselves lost in space, surrounded by dangerous pirates with no way to get home. Skeleton Crew’s story couldn’t be more different from Rogue One’s, which chronicles the sacrifices made by those in the Rebellion to ensure the Empire’s Death Star could one day be destroyed. And yet, the two Disney-era Star Wars properties are connected.

Christopher Nolan's reputation in Hollywood means that with almost no details, his next film is already being closely examined, but one major detail is still yet to be revealed. Nolan has directed just 12 feature films in his 25-year-long career as a Hollywood director, but with almost every new release, the director has received widespread critical acclaim. Many of his films go on to win an impressive collection of rewards, among the most prestigious awards shows in Hollywood.
He has also proven his ability to innovate and be creative across a variety of genres, from sci-fi, to historical drama and even superhero movies. And in all of these projects, he is renowned for casting exceptionally talented actors, and then bringing out the very best performance from them, to the extent that they go on to win their first Oscars under his direction, and their careers are transformed from being stuck in a single typecast,...

On Friday, Nov. 8, Oscar contender “Challengers” received a Grammy nomination for Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media. This specific music category is awarded to the composers of an original score — in this case, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross — that is created specifically for film or television or other visual media. The Amazon MGM Studios production is also currently predicted to receive an Oscar bid for Best Score, and all of this attention could certainly boost its chances.
The other four nominees at the 2025 Grammys for Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media are “American Fiction” by Laura Karpman, “The Color Purple” by Kris Bowers, “Dune: Part Two” by Hans Zimmer, and “Shōgun” by Nick Chuba, Atticus Ross, and Leopold Ross. Yes, that means Atticus Ross is competing against himself.
Because of the different eligibility periods for the Grammys and the Oscars, “American Fiction” and “The Color Purple” actually competed at last year’s Academy Awards.

Hans Zimmer has been the sound of modern-day blockbusters, most notably his work on epic sci-fi and action movies. Many may know him from his work with Christopher Nolan, although Nolan has opted to work with Ludwig Göransson in his last two outings. Zimmer’s collaboration with Nolan on Inception even notably ushered in the trend of the “Bwaaam” musical sting that can be found in most trailers to help intensify and punctuate a dramatic turn.
Zimmer’s notes would be attached to Denis Villeneuve‘s Dune: Part Two this year. And his score would showcase some of his usual intensity along with some melodic, dramatic sounds, which feature the franchise’s signature female vocals. Unfortunately, Zimmer’s score for the film have not met the eligibility requirements to be nominated for an Academy Award, according to Variety. This is because the music surpasses the Academy’s limit on pre-existing music.

"Dune: Part Two" is one of the best films of 2024, a monumental achievement that seems like a shoo-in to be nominated for a swath of technical awards at the upcoming 97th Academy Awards. As of this writing, several screenings of the film are taking place throughout this week in Los Angeles, featuring director Denis Villeneuve giving Q&As after a number of them. One of these screenings includes a chat with Villeneuve and composer Hans Zimmer, moderated by the winner of Best Original Score for the 96th Academy Awards, Ludwig Göransson. It certainly seemed like Zimmer's work for "Dune: Part Two" was going to be a big part of the film's push at the Academy Awards.
Sadly, that part of the movie's awards campaign is now officially over -- at least when it comes to the Oscars specifically. According to Variety, Zimmer's score has been deemed not eligible for competition.

Of all the below-the-line categories at the Oscars, Best Original Score is the most difficult to predict early on due to the finicky nature of the music branch of the academy. You’ve got to love that YouTube commenters are pointing out the Sinners trailer confirms Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan (in a dual role) should have collaborated on a Blade film. The official trailer is an excellent example of how you tease a film without giving away the plot.

The Trailer for Michael B. Jordan’s Vampire Film ‘Sinners’ Is Out Before ‘Blade’ Even Begins Filming

Michael B. Jordan is back in action with his “Black Panther” writer/director Ryan Coogler.
The trailer for “Sinners,” the highly-anticipated vampire movie from the MCU duo, is officially out years before the long-awaited “Blade” remake. “Sinners” has been positioned as the non-mcu-sanctioned take on the “Blade” comics. While Coogler has made two Marvel films (the “Black Panther” features), “Sinners” is entirely separate from the franchise — and probably for the best.
Marvel’s “Blade” starring Mahershala Ali was first announced in 2019. Since then, it’s had a rotating door of writers and directors.
Coogler and Jordan first collaborated on “Fruitvale Station,” and then moved on to “Creed.” Jordan later made his directorial debut with “Creed III.”
“Sinners,” again written and directed by Coogler, centers on twin brothers — both played by Jordan — who return to their New Orleans hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back.

Thirty-five years after Warner Bros. danced with the devil in the pale moonlight, the studio has added another satanic statement to its storied history courtesy of Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan: “If you keep dancing with the devil, one day he’s going to follow you home.”

Set in the 1930s Jim Crow South, “Sinners” is a supernatural horror thriller where a mysterious terror menaces a small town and its residents – particularly twin brothers (both played by Jordan). Here’s the official synopsis, provided by Warner Bros.:

Warner Bros has released the first trailer for Ryan Coogler’s highly anticipated Sinners. Check it out below.
Just a day after we learned the official title and some plot details for Ryan Coogler’s next film, a trailer has appeared online. And it’s a good one too.
Check out the Sinners trailer below.
Delroy Lindo, Hailee Steinfeld, Wunmi Mosaku and Jack O’Connell join Jordan in the film’s cast and Coogler is bringing a lot of his Black Panther collaborators, such as composer Ludwig Göransson, and costume designer Ruth E Carter to help him realise his vision.
Granted, there’s no actual vampire action in the Sinners trailer. Warner Bros is likely saving that for later trailers or maybe even the big screen itself. If anything, the crowd approaching a bar, presumably where Jordan and the rest of the townsfolk are hiding, resemble the slow-walking zombies of George A Romero’s films.

Ryan Coogler has put Michael B. Jordan in the boxing ring and transported him to Wakanda. Now he is putting him in an entirely new situation in the first trailer for Sinners, the vampire feature coming from Warner Bros.
In the mysterious preview, Jordan’s Smoke says via voiceover, “I’ve been all over this world. I’ve seen men die in ways, I ain’t even know was possible.”
He adds, over footage of people running from some unseen danger and someone showing up at church with their face scratched, “Of all the things that I’ve seen, I ain’t ever seen no demons, no ghosts, no magic — ’til now.”
The trailer ends with Jordan leading a group of people ready to fight as a preacher says, “You keep dancing with the devil, and one day he’s going to follow you home.”
The synopsis, which teases a “new vision of fear,...

“Sinners” is near.
The new Ryan Coogler film, which stars his longtime collaborator Michael B. Jordan, isn’t coming out until March 7, 2025 and has been shrouded in secrecy ever since cameras rolled. But a brand new teaser trailer, which you can watch below, is enough to give us a good idea of what to expect. And it is wild.
In “Sinners,” Jordan plays twin vampire brothers who return to their hometown in an attempt to start over. Once there, they discover something even more evil has taken root – the Ku Klux Klan (Jack O’Connell plays the evil racist baddie). The movie is set in 1930s Jim Crow South, with production taking place in New Orleans earlier this year — but this being a Coogler film, it’s filled with the kind of rich detail that brings history to life. And the concept both feels fun and cool while also rich enough...
