Arrowverse has always been leaps and bounds ahead of everyone when it comes to presenting inclusion and diversity on screen, especially in the superhero genre. In this, however, one of the most notable moments was when Greg Berlanti, who was the producer behind the show, brought forth an on-screen gay kiss. This sequence had a huge impact on the audience, as this was not that prevalent in television at the time.

The 2000s were positively a weird time for movies. The nostalgia of the '90s was fading, but the future of filmmaking, particularly digital technology, hadn't quite taken over yet. This awkward period produced great films that were bold but often misunderstood, leading to mixed reviews or low interest. As they didn't quite fit the typical mold, some of them were left to be largely forgotten as time went on.
These are some of the most underrated movies of all time, and while barely anyone talks about them now, they still hold a special place in film history. Titles like Down with Love and Vanilla Sky captured something unique about the 2000s, even though they never received the attention they deserved. Despite slipping into the background of time and modern cinema, their distinctive storytelling and charm make them worth revisiting or discovering anew.

American novelist, screenwriter, playwright, and cultural icon Truman Capote wrote dozens of novels, short novels, plays, and movies on his way to becoming one of the most important voices in New Journalism, and filmmakers have been adapting his work from the start. While some younger generations may only know Truman Capote because of Philip Seymour Hoffman's award-winning performance in Capote, the vast number of movies about Capote are not eligible for a list of movies adapted from his works.
At the same time, movies made from his screenplays, marvelous as they may be, are also not to be included on a list of adaptations. Taking a Capote story or short story and turning it into something memorable that stands apart from the author's original is a higher degree of difficulty than having Capote be a part of the moviemaking itself. While Capote occasionally has a hand in these adaptations,...

The Golden Globes go down on Sunday. We’ve already shared our expert predictions on who will win the film and TV prizes. And based on thousands of Gold Derby users’ votes, we have a clear picture of the odds in each race. But who among the less likely contenders really deserves to go home with the gold? Here are the big upset victories we’re cheering for this weekend.
Sign UPfor Gold Derby’s free newsletter with latest predictions Colman Domingo, Sing Sing — Best Film Drama Actor
It would be tremendously satisfying to see the magnificent Colman Domingo honored as Best Film Drama Actor for Sing Sing. The pundits rank Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown), and Ralph Fiennes (Conclave) in front of him, but Domingo’s performance as John “Divine G” Whitfield is almost magical in its emotional complexity. It’s neither showy nor particularly intense,...

Geraldine Page found her calling at the age of 17 when she did her first play “Excuse My Dust” at her Chicago church youth group. “I always wanted to be good at something, to be somebody,” she wrote in the New Yorker. “The minute I got into my first play, which was called ‘Excuse My Dust,’ I knew that this was what I was looking for.” Read on as Gold Derby celebrates what would have been her 100th birthday.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s became one of the most critically acclaimed films in actress Audrey Hepburn’s career upon its release in 1961. The romantic comedy film based on author Truman Capote’s 1958 novel of the same name was nominated for five Academy Awards, including a Best Actress nod for Hepburn.

Despite the recognition she received for the role, Hepburn wasn’t the first or the right choice for the role according to Capote. In an interview, Capote explained his reasoning behind preferring a different actress for the lead role in the adaptation of his novel. Meanwhile, Hepburn also doubted if she was the right choice for the film, and here is what the two had to say.

Most fans of The Office (U.S.) know that Steve Carell wasn’t the only name that was in the mix for the role of regional manager Michael Scott, but not all of us knew just how Oscar-worthy the list of also-rans really was.
In the active online Office fandom, the mythology of the “what could have been” casts basically has its own fan-fiction community — an alternate reality where Bob Odenkirk plays Michael, Patton Oswalt is Dwight, Adam Scott is the office hunk Jim Halpert and Kathryn Hahn is an outrageous, hilarious Pam Beesly is the subject of numerous Dunder Mifflin die-hards’ daydreams. The lore about the other actors up for the roles on the most beloved and enduring sitcom of the 2000s is still popular in part because of the surviving screen tests from the casting process, but there’s an entire world of A-list actors whose names came...

A quarter century after winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for “Girl, Interrupted,” Angelina Jolie is hoping to pick up the Best Actress trophy for her performance in “Maria.” In terms of Oscar history, she’d join Meryl Streep, Jessica Lange, Cate Blanchett, and Renée Zellweger, who all won for featured performances before prevailing again for star turns.
Jolie’s role, that of real-life opera singer Maria Callas, has already been proven to be awards-worthy and won Jane Seymour an Emmy nearly four decades ago. This English rose featured in the 1988 TV movie “Onassis: The Richest Man in the World,” opposite Raul Julia as Aristotle Onassis and Anthony Quinn as his father, Socrates. This remains her only Emmy win from five nominations.

Cast and executive producers of ‘Shogun’ on stage at the 2024 Emmys (Disney/Frank Micelotta)
Father and son Eugene and Dan Levy did a respectable job of hosting the 2024 Primetime Emmys, popping in just enough throughout the two-hour running time to guide the show without overstaying their welcome. Their opening bit avoided any controversial topics, and Dan Levy got a big laugh when he described the Emmys as broadcast TV’s biggest night for honoring movie stars on streaming services. Eugene also earned solid applause when he joked, “In the true spirit of The Bear, we will not be making any jokes,” while addressing the show’s controversial classification as a comedy.
Speaking of The Bear, the series was awarded four Emmys during the broadcast in the Actor (Jeremy Allen White), Supporting Actor (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), Supporting Actress (Liza Colón-Zayas), and Outstanding Directing categories. But Hacks pulled off a surprise win, snagging the Comedy Series Emmy.

The 76th Primetime Emmys are almost upon us, with the remaining 25 categories to be presented on Sunday, September 15, 2024. (The other 99 races were doled out last weekend at the Creative Arts Emmys.) Gold Derby is currently predicting that “Shōgun,” “The Bear” and “Baby Reindeer” will each add five more trophies to their individual tallies, but I think we could be in for a surprise or two (or four!) when the envelopes are eventually opened during ABC’s three-hour ceremony. Read on to see my Top 4 potential Emmy shockeroos to watch out for on Sunday night.

After four successful seasons and a spin-off series, the fifth season of The Boys is currently being worked on as the series prepares for its final season. Everyone has teased a shocking final season, and based on where the fourth season left us, we actually believe them.
While there are numerous questions that we actually have as far as Season 5 is concerned, the cast members have provided us with some hints regarding some of these questions in a recent interview with Variety. In this report, we are going to focus on the relationship between Frenchie and Kimiko,...

Diane Lane whips out her copy of the same Slim Keith book I’ve loved for years: “Slim: Memories of a Rich and Imperfect Life.” It details her love affair and marriage to Hollywood auteur Howard Hawks, how she befriended Ernest Hemingway when Hawks was wrangling the rights to “To Have and Have Not,” and her discovery of Harper’s Bazaar covergirl Lauren Bacall to play “Slim” in the movie, a character based on Keith.
An entire chapter is devoted to her deep and loving friendship, during and after her marriage to uber-agent Leland Hayward, with gay novelist Truman Capote, who eventually betrayed her with his infamous Esquire article, “La Cote Basque 1965.” At that moment, as dramatized in the FX series “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans,” Keith (Lane) and her best pal, New York socialite Barbara “Babe” Paley (Naomi Watts), angrily turned their backs on Capote (Tom Hollander), who had...

As the Gold Derby odds currently stand in Best Movie/Limited Actress, Jodie Foster (“True Detective: Night Country”) appears to be heading towards her first Emmy win. She’s followed by Brie Larson (“Lessons In Chemistry”), Juno Temple (“Fargo”), Sofia Vergara (“Griselda”) and Naomi Watts (“Feud: Capote vs. The Swans”) in last. However, are most of us writing off a win for Watts too soon? She has plenty going for her.

When Tom Hollander took on the role of Truman Capote in Season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s Anthology Series, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, it wasn’t the first time he’d contemplated playing the famously acerbic New York writer—some years ago he had auditioned for a different version of the role. Now, in portraying Capote’s complex and self-destructive spiral into alcoholism and isolation, written by Jon Robin Baitz, Hollander describes an experience so profoundly immersive that he himself has not yet been able to watch it. Speaking from Rome where he is currently shooting Iris—the upcoming drama series from Luther creator Neil Cross—Hollander explains his process for Feud and the impact of embodying a gay man with the courage to live out and proud in an unaccepting society.

Truman Capote, in his lifelong quest for infamy, left a trail of TV appearances behind for Tom Hollander to draw from for his portrayal of the flamboyant American novelist in the FX’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.

The Criterion Channel’s August lineup pays tribute to auteurs of all kinds: directors, actors, and photographers, fictional or otherwise. In a notable act of preservation and advocacy, they’ll stream 20 titles by the Egyptian filmmaker Youssef Chahine, here introduced by the great Richard Peña. More known (but fun all the same) is a five-title Paul Thomas Anderson series including the exclusive stream of Licorice Pizza, as well as a Philip Seymour Hoffman series that overlaps with Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love (a Criterion Edition this month), and The Master, plus 25th Hour, Love Liza, and his own directing effort Jack Goes Boating. Halle Berry and Glenn Close have joined the cast of All’s Fair, a legal drama from megaproducer Ryan Murphy and 20th Television. The pair will also be executive producers alongside Murphy and Kardashian.
Per usual with Murphy’s shows, details about the roles Berry and Close will play are being kept quiet for now. All’s Fair is described as a glossy and sexy procedural in which Kardashian — who worked with Murphy on the most recent season of American Horror Story — plays a top divorce attorney at an all-woman L.A. law firm.
Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans) and Joe Baken (ABC’s upcoming, Murphy-produced Dr. Odyssey) created the series. They executive produce with stars Kardashian, Close and Berry; writers Jamie Pachino, Laura Greene and Richard Levine; and Kris Jenner,...

In a compelling exploration of a lifelong friendship and occasional rivalry between literary icons Truman Capote and Tennessee Williams, Hollywood stars Jim Parsons and Zachary Quinto teamed up for a documentary project. With Lisa Immordino Vreeland directing Tennessee & Truman: An Intimate Conversation, Parsons and Quinto offered their voices as Capote and Williams, respectively.
Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory | Chuck Lorre Productions, Warner Bros. Television
However, while the Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto’s association with the project came smoothly, Jim Parsons was rather hesitant to join the team. But fortunately, after his exit from the widely acclaimed series The Big Bang Theory, with nothing significant in hand, Parsons marked his notable collaboration with Quinto in their 2020 documentary.

Calista Flockhart, our guest on this episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, is a TV legend. The actress shot to fame 27 years ago playing a Harvard Law graduate who goes to work in a Boston firm on David E. Kelley’s groundbreaking Fox comedy series Ally McBeal (1997-2002), for which she garnered three Emmy noms and won a Golden Globe. She subsequently starred on other notable shows including ABC’s Brothers & Sisters (2006-2011) and CBS/The CW’s Supergirl (2015-2018). Most recently, on the 2024 FX limited series Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, she played Lee Radziwill, the socialite sister of Jackie Kennedy and, for a time, close friend of Truman Capote — and now finds herself back in the Emmys race.

“Is it a gift or is it not a gift that you can only play the age you are?”
It’s a rhetorical question Diane Lane asks — but doesn’t pretend to have the answer to — and also a thought she embraces.
“I am grateful for it,” she says. “And I’m optimistic that I’m at the right age to play some interesting people.”
Interesting is one of the many things that could be said about Slim Keith. In FX’s “Feud: Capote vs. the Swans,” Lane plays the real-life socialite, who was among the women that acclaimed novelist Truman Capote collected like prized confidantes in the 1960s, before using the secrets they entrusted to him as thinly veiled material for his final unfinished novel, “Answered Prayers.”

“She stuck to her guns,” says Diane Lane of her character Slim Keith on the FX series “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.” The real life New York socialite continued the war with writer Truman Capote long after many of her fellow “Swans” chose to soften towards him. “Some other people might’ve said it’s time to forgive and she wasn’t ready,” admits Lane, “And maybe that makes her a leader in the unforgiveness department. But I think she felt particularly betrayed for her own reasons.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
The titular “Feud” of this series is the result of Capote (Tom Hollander) publishing a chapter from his forthcoming novel in a magazine, with thinly veiled character assassinations of his closest female friends. These high society women, led by Slim Keith and Babe Paley (Naomi Watts), froze the writer out of all social functions.

Much like our social media-driven news cycle today which is fixated on cancelation and schadenfreude, there arguably was a judge, jury and executioner style in Truman Capote’s published Esquire pieces, read “La Côte Basque 1965″ about New York City female elites. Ryan Murphy and Jon Robin Baitz’s latest FX limited series Feud: Capote vs. Swans dives into Capote’s deconstruction and takedown of the fancy ladies he supped and partied with.
How in God’s name would Capote operate in a social media world?
We kick around that notion today with the series’ stars Tom Hollander who plays the tender, though nitpicky and sassy Capote, and Naomi Watts who plays the author’s best friend, though a betrayed one.
Hollander acknowledges that there remains today, like decades ago “a ghoulish fascination about the glamor and the compromises” of high society women, “there’s sort of a style porn that...

“Feud: Bette and Joan” took the Emmys by storm in 2017, with the first season of the Ryan Murphy anthology show receiving rave reviews for its depiction of the rivalry between actresses Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon) and Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange).
Season two will hope to match that Emmy success (more on that later) with its portrayal of Truman Capote (Tom Hollander) and his falling out with a group of New York high society socialites known as the Swans. Capote wrote a fictionalized account of the Swans’ dramatic lives, leading to the Swans vowing revenge for betraying their confidence.
The glossy show is typically gorgeous, scandalous, and theatrical while the performances are all top-drawer. Hollander dazzles in the lead role as Capote, which is no mean feat considering the late, great Philip Seymour-Hoffman won the Best Actor Oscar for his turn as Capote in 2005’s “Capote”). In the ’70s, socialite Ann Woodward lived an afflicted life. That’s one of the first things Demi Moore learned about the former showgirl and model when tasked with portraying her for FX’s “Feud: Capote vs. the Swans.” Creator Ryan Murphy had called with the offer and before Moore read anything, she told him, “Whatever it is, I’ll do it.”
And she never looked back. Moore first dove into Laurence Leamer’s 2023 book that the series was based on to learn more about Woodward, determined to make sure her portrayal was accurate — and that she knew what really happened. In 1955, Woodward shot and killed her husband after thinking he was a burglar. The jury ruled the death an accident, but the speculation over whether that was true, along with the ostracism it triggered, tormented her every day.

In the final moments of “Feud: Capote vs. the Swans,” episode seven, Tom Hollander’s Truman Capote is dying. His last words are “Beautiful Babe,” referencing his Swan Babe Paley, played by Naomi Watts. The following episode, the season finale is aptly titled “Phantasm Forgiveness,” a dreamscape scenario that hops between the past, present and future.
In an imagined scenario, Capote continues drafting his book “Answered Prayers” and imagines his character P.B Jones apologizing and making amends as he seeks forgiveness. In the show, Capote betrays his close circle of New York’s high society circle of powerful women known as the Swans by publishing a story titled “La Côte Basque, 1965” in Esquire and revealing their secrets. The Swans include Babe, C.Z. Guest (Chloë Sevigny) and Slim Keith (Diane Lane).
Speaking at Variety’s TV FYC Fest, executive producer and writer Jon Robin Baitz explained his approach to that final episode.

“I loved the moral questions at the heart of it,” reveals writer Jon Robin Baitz of the FX limited series “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.” The show chronicles a fallout between Truman Capote (Tom Hollander) and his dearest female friends after he published their scandalous secrets. The ensuing downward spiral of the author is a fascinating tale of betrayal and love. “When you’re a writer and you are using everything around you, which is an unstoppable mechanical event, “says Baitz, “as a writer, do you have an obligation to the people you have relationships with and are using in some way to be responsible to them?” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
Capote’s moral quandary is one that Baitz grapples with these days as he looks back on his career. “I spent many years as a playwright drawing from the experiences I’d had growing up and as...

Tom Hollander, the guest on this episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, is a brilliant British character actor who has distinguished himself on the stage and screens big and small, with the New York Times describing him as “vitally funny in dramatic roles [and] wrenchingly somber in comic ones.” Indeed, over the course of a career dating back 42 years, he has been a part of two SAG Award-winning casts, one for a film, 2001’s Gosford Park, and another for a TV series, 2023’s The White Lotus season two. He won a best supporting actor BAFTA TV Award for 2016’s The Night Manager. And he was nominated for a best actor in a play Tony Award for 2018’s Travesties.

In those final fading years of the New York socialites, Diane Lane was a teenager and already an actor. It was Manhattan in the 70s, and she had glimpses into the world of high society insiders such as Babe Paley and Cz Guest – women the writer Truman Capote “collected” and then betrayed, as depicted in the Disney Plus series Feud: Capote vs The Swans. The line-up for the new series of Variety’s Actors On Actors has been revealed, with high profile movie performers interviewing each other.
Variety’s Actors On Actors is one of the most delightful series you can watch as a film fan. The central conceit is that two actors sit down for a natter about their work, often going off on tangents, acting as a unique insight into the industry.
Generally, the pairings are quite surprising, with the actors concerned often never having worked together and, in some cases, seeming quite random, but each one is fascinating and, usually, an absolute hoot. You can see Kate Winslet shooting the breeze with Gary Oldman, for example, or Beanie Feldstein with Florence Pugh – we are still waiting for Jason Statham to make an appearence.

“I wanted it to be alive more than anything, and there to be a sense of real delight and weirdness,” reveals “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans” composer Julia Newman about her score for the FX limited series. For our recent webchat she adds, “What I love so much about this show is that there’s no good guys, but we empathize at different moments with all of the characters. Everyone inhabits a real humanness and in inhabiting that humanness, of course, everybody is flawed. I loved the idea of Truman Capote always listening, always with the typewriter going on, as everybody was always scheming. It’s actually part of what makes the story so powerful. As shallow as human beings can get and as deep as human beings can get, what does it mean to be on your deathbed and to regret a friendship lost? That’s so profound. So,...

FX/Hulu’s Feud: Capote vs. the Swans depicts the infamous rift between writer Truman Capote and his “swans” — a handpicked collection of Manhattan socialites who ice out Capote from New York society after he publishes a short story loosely based on Babe Paley and her husband’s various infidelities. In this scene from the pilot, written by Jon Robin Baitz, the audience is treated to a meet-cute of sorts between Truman (Tom Hollander) and Babe (Naomi Watts) years before their clash that offers an idea of the deep connection between the two players.
Truman Capote is an American pop culture icon, recognizable to literary fans even today. Getting his voice and mannerisms on the page was important — and Baitz says that Hollander stuck to the script, avoiding any ad-libbing in character as Truman. “His respect for the word is based on his love of playwrights, of trying to figure...

“It was fun to pivot,” shares Lou Eyrich about the change of milieu from the first to second installments of FX’s anthology series “Feud.” She was the costume designer on the first season “Bette and Joan” back in 2017, and though she now mostly collaborates with Ryan Murphy as a producer, she seized on the opportunity to return as costumer for “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.” The designer describes the difference between the two sets of episodes as “going from a Hollywood movie perspective to this elite group of socialite jet-setters in New York, Manhattan, at the time, and they were the original influencers.” Gold Derby spoke with Eyrich as part of our “Meet the Experts” TV costume design panel. Real life contrasts with the fictional storyline as Rebecca shifts from journalist to active participant in the case.
Hulus Under the Bridge episode 5 includes a mention of the name Perry Smith, referencing a 65-year-old murder. Production on the film, from Black Bear and also starring Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones, began earlier this month in Spokane, Wash.
“Train Dreams” is the sweeping and poignant tale of Robert Grainier (Edgerton), a day laborer employed as a logger helping to expand the railways across America. Calista Flockhart has reflected on her time in the title role of hit legal drama Ally McBeal, saying she “felt on trial” herself in the media.
Flockhart played the part of McBeal in the series that ran for five seasons between 1997 and 2002, and increasingly focused on the romantic lives of the lead characters.
Despite, or because of, its popularity with viewers, the show became a litmus paper for commentary in the media, with Time magazine suggesting that it signified the “death of feminism” with the female cast members’ short skirts and slim figures.
Flockhart told The Times of London that what had started out as “creating something really special” then “went to s**t” with all the scrutiny of her character’s appearance and obsession with her biological clock, symbolised by the vision of a dancing baby. She recalled:

Demi Moore, 61, Dares to Bare in Crystal Mesh Gown at Dal Cuore alle Mani Dolce & Gabbana Exhibition

I’ve always admired Demi Moore. Her incredible figure and daring yet classy red carpet style never disappoint. One of her most notable red-carpet moments to date came at the Dolce & Gabbana 40th anniversary gala, where she wore a glittering sheer gown from the Italian luxury fashion house, no less.
Demi Moore was among the celebrities invited to the inauguration of the Dal Cuore alle Mani (From the Heart to the Hands) exhibition at Palazzo Reale. In addition to honoring Dolce & Gabbana’s legacy, the exhibition celebrates Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s creative process, including the Italian artisans and cultural heritage that influenced their work.
Other guests include Lupita Nyong’o, Lily James, Naomi Campbell, Olivia Culpo, Helen Mirren, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Cher. All wore breathtaking outfits, but I think the evening’s most eye-catching dress belonged to Demi Moore.

In a statement posted on her Instagram account, Shindle said, “It’s been one of my greatest honors to serve as the top officer of our union since 2015, and it sure has been a hell of a ride. Since March 2020, the vast majority of my creative energy has gone into solving our collective problems – sometimes successfully, sometimes making frustratingly incremental gains.

One of 2024’s obsessions is “Feud: “Capote vs. the Swans.” The FX on Hulu limited series revolves around the best-selling novelist Truman Capote‘s friendship with several of the highest of New York’s society women include Babe Paley, Slim Keith and Lee Radziwill, the sister of Jackie Kennedy Onassis. The women treat him as a sort of father confessor, but when he publishes an excerpt from what he considers his will be his masterwork “Answered Prayers” in Esquire — a thinly veiled account of their lives and secrets –they feel betrayed and turn their back on their once trusted friend. He spends the rest of his life trying to get back into their good graces.
Everyone knows Capote wrote “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and his superb “In Cold Blood” and was a witty albeit inebriated guest on countless talk shows, but how much do you really know about him?

Feud: Capote vs. The Swans focuses on Truman Capote's rift with the elite socialite group "Swans." Capote's betrayal of the "Swans" in "La Côte Basque 1965" led to damaged relationships and feuds. Only three "Swans" were living following Capote's death — C.Z. Guest, Slim Keith, and Lee Radziwill.
FX's Feud: Capote vs. The Swans features the "Swans," an exclusive socialite group of high society women living in New York City who had grievances against Truman Capote, and following the show's conclusion, only three "Swans" remained in real life. The anthology series' second season, created by Ryan Murphy, Jaffe Cohen, and Michael Zam, chronicles the infamous rivalry between Capote and the "Swans." Capote was an acclaimed writer who penned novels such as Other Voices, Other Rooms and In Cold Blood, but "La Côte Basque 1965," published in Esquire in 1975, is what drove the wedge between Capote and the "Swans."
