Sir Elton John is one of pop music's great survivors. Born 25 March, 1947, as Reginald Kenneth Dwight, he started to play the piano at the early age of four. At the age of 11, he won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music. His first band was called Bluesology. He later auditioned (unsuccessfully) as lead singer for the progressive rock bands King Crimson and Gentle Giant. Dwight teamed up with lyricist Bernie Taupin and changed his name to Elton John (merging the names of saxophonist Elton Dean and Long John Baldry). The duo wrote songs for Lulu and Roger Cook. In the early 1970s, he recorded the concept album "Tumbleweed Connection." He became the most successful pop artist of the 1970s, and he has survived many different pop fads including punk, the New Romantics and Britpop to remain one of Britain's most internationally acclaimed musicians.
Elton John announced he was a bisexual in 1976, and in 1984, he married Renate Blauel. The marriage lasted four years before he finally came to terms with the fact that he was actually homosexual. In the 1970s and 1980s, he suffered from drug and alcohol addiction and bulimia but came through it. He is well known as a campaigner for AIDS research and he keeps his finger on the pulse of modern music, enjoying artists such as Eminem, Radiohead, Coldplay and Robbie Williams. He was knighted in 1997.- Chris Larkin was born on 19 June 1967 in Middlesex Hospital, London, England, UK. Former vocalist for the Javelins and Episode Six, Ian Gillan joined Deep Purple in 1969. They recorded the legendary albums "Deep Purple In Rock", "Fireball", "Machine Head" and "Who Do We Think We Are", as well as a number of live albums.
He left Deep Purple in 1973 due to differences with guitarist 'Ritchie Blackmore', as well as exhaustion due to excessive touring with the band. He then formed The Ian Gillan Band around late 1975/early '76. They released two studio albums: "Child in Time" (1976), which included a "jazzy" version of the Purple classic "Clear Air Turbulence" (1977), and a live album, recorded at the Budokan.
He then disbanded The Ian Gillan Band, and formed "Gillan". They released five albums: "Mr. Universe" (1979), "Future Shock" (1980), "Glory Road" (1980), "Double Trouble" (1981) and "Magic" (1982) before disbanding due to Ian's throat problems. Ian then met Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler and joined Black Sabbath in 1983. They did one album, "Born Again", that same year and toured in 1984. At that time Ian got a call from Ritchie Blackmore, asking him to reform Purple MKII, along with band mates Jon Lord, Roger Glover and Ian Paice. Ian left Sabbath and rejoined Purple. They recorded "Perfect Strangers" (1984) and "The House of Blue Light" (1987), before his problems with Blackmore made him quit Purple yet again. In 1988 he and fellow Purple band mate Glover made a record under the "Gillan/Glover" moniker, called "Accidentally on Purpose". Ian participated on various projects until 1992, when he formed a band and recorded "Cherkazoo and Other Stories".
In 1993 he was asked to rejoin Deep Purple yet again. He accepted, and recorded "The Battle Rages On". After a world tour Blackmore quit Deep Purple for good. They then made a couple of dates with Joe Satriani before finding a permanent replacement in Kansas/Dixie Dregs guitarist Steve Morse. The new Purple then recorded "Purpendicular" in 1996 and "Abandon" in 1998. In 1998, Ian released his solo album "Dreamcatcher".
Organist Jon Lord was replaced for the 2003 record "Bananas" with former Rainbow keyboardist Don Airey. Deep Purple MK VIII did a world tour for "Bananas", and went to work on their 18th studio album, "Rapture of the Deep", released in November 2005.
Ian released "Gillan's Inn" in 2006, and is touring with Deep Purple.- Paul Warren is a British actor and creature performer. He is best known for playing characters wearing heavy prosthetic makeup and/or creature suits, most notably in Star Wars films and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017), Andor (TV series) (2022), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014), Thor: The Dark World (2013) Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and The Marvels (2023).
He has also had creature roles in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Clash of the Titans, World War Z, Ghost Stories, Willow (TV series) and the goblin horror film Unwelcome, where as well as playing the Redcap Goblin Mr Sniff, he was also the Creature Movement Coach for the Stunt Team.
Although now known for his creature performing work, he began his film career as a body double for Daniel Radcliffe on the film Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix and was one of the Skinny Steve Rogers VFX doubles in Marvel's Captain America: The First Avenger.
Occasionally he steps out from behind the prosthetics, for example when he provided mime/movement for Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One and when he was a special action performer on Kingsman: The Secret Service for that stunning stunt scene in the church choreographed by the late great Brad Allan.
In 2007, he was recommended to the legendary Stan Winston Studio as a good choice to portray an emaciated version of the title character in 'The Deaths of Ian Stone'. The horror role required full body prosthetics and CGI head replacement with lead actor Mike Vogel. The invaluable experience Paul gained working with Stan's crew to achieve this tricky effect is what ultimately set him on a path to becoming a creature performer.
His first creature role was in the remake of Clash of the Titans. Working with the Oscar nominated Creatures Inc, he underwent a 5 hour makeup process to transform into a tortured soul that pulls the boatman across the river Styx. To add to the challenge of performing covered in such extreme silicone prosthetics, the scene was filmed in a large outside water tank at Pinewood studios.
In 2010, Paul was chosen by director Joe Johnston to be a visual effect double for skinny Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger. Working closely with Lola Visual Effects, he helped bring Skinny Steve to life in the pre-production VFX tests and was on set as a visual reference for the recruitment scene. The remainder of body double duties on the film were performed by Leander Deeny.
He has since gone on to be a core creature performer in Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: The Dark World, The Marvels and World War Z, however he is probably most known for his work with Neal Scanlan's creature department on Star Wars. Paul is credited on Star Wars: The Force Awakens as a 'creature and droid puppeteer' and plays an alien called 'Varmik'. This character is of particular interest to Star Wars fans due to his origin; Varmik is based on 2 classic pieces of production art from George Lucas' first Star Wars film in 1977 - the cantina showdown and early Chewbacca designs by Ralph McQuarrie. The cantina showdown was a particular favourite of J.J Abrams' that he wanted to bring to life on screen.
In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Paul plays a dowager alien called Gatha Elbaphay. The character created quite a buzz online when it was confirmed by director Rian Johnson that the animatronic space pug it holds was based on Carrie Fisher's very own pet pooch Gary. It was affectionately known on set as Space Gary.
He performed the 4 armed character Doctor Quadpaw (along side Aidan Cook and Matt Lyons) in Star Wars: Andor and was a Troll in the fantasy sequel TV series Willow.
2023 saw Paul working once again with Neal Scanlan's creature department on Tim Burton's much anticipated sequel to Beetlejuice titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. He played the role of Shrinker Tom and was a puppeteer in the waiting room performing the hand for the man in a box. - Actress

Richard William Wright was born on 28th July, 1943, in Hatch End, London. His parents, Bridie and Cedric Wright had two other children, Selina and Guinevere. He quickly developed an interest in jazz and classical piano.
Studying architecture at Regent Street Polytechnic in London, he met and formed a band with Roger Waters on bass, Nick Mason on drums, Bob Klose on guitar, Syd Barrett on guitars and vocals and Rick himself on keys. Initially they played R&B, but changed style when Bob Klose left. They became one of the premier art-rock bands in London, becoming synonymous with the underground scene in the city. They took the name Pink Floyd after bluesmen Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. On their debut album, The Piper of The Gates At Dawn, Barrett was the clear leader but Wright managed to sing lead on one song, Matilda Mother and sang harmony on Astronomy Domine.
By 1968 Barrett's mind was an acid casualty, so David Gilmour was brought in to replace him. Initially the group operated democratically, with Wright, Gilmour, Mason, and Waters all writing their own compositions. Wright's trademark was playing his piano through a Leslie speaker, which, coupled with Gilmour's guitar playing, became the musical foundation for the band. On several occasions, Wright would sing with Gilmour on the same song, providing tonal variety and balance to the vocals.
Unfortunately, by 1977 Waters became power hungry, and he saw Wright (as well as David Gilmour) as a rival for creative control of the band. After the 1977 Animals tour, Wright retreated to southern France and recorded a solo album, 1978's Wet Dream (right before bandmate David Gilmour began recording his own solo debut at the sane studio). However, he was initially not happy with the end result and did little to promote it. Waters fired Wright in 1979, during the final recording sessions for The Wall.
When the ambitious tour for The Wall came underway, Waters temporarily rehired Wright as a sideman. Wright agreed, as he had two children to support.
Wright teamed with Dave Harris from Fashion to form a duo called Zee. Their one album, Identity (1984), was a critical and commercial failure.
In 1987, he rejoined Pink Floyd, now minus Roger Waters towards the end of the recording of the A Momentary Lapse of Reason album. He was again, a salaried employee. Richard would be reinstated as a band member in 1992. For Pink Floyd's final studio album, 1994's Division Bell, he co wrote five songs. He also sang lead vocals on a Pink Floyd record for the first time in over 20 years. He followed that with another studio album, the ambient Broken China (1996).
In 2005, he performed alongside Gilmour, Mason and Waters when Pink Floyd reunited for Live 8.
In 2002, he made a cameo at David Gilmour's semi-acoustic shows in London, later going on to perform and sing on Gilmour's solo album "On An Island". When Gilmour toured the album in 2006, he was part of the band, alongside his son-in-law Guy Pratt. Invited by his one-time nemesis Waters to perform at one of his London shows in 2006, he declined, saying he was working on a solo album.
Richard died on 15 September, 2008 from cancer at the age of 65.- Olive Mercer was born on 15 September 1905 in Hendon, Middlesex [now in Barnet, London], England, UK. She died on 2 January 1983 in Hillingdon, Hillingdon, London, England, UK.
