Included among the American Film Institute's 2000 list of the 500 movies nominated for the Top 100 Funniest American Movies.
Many players from the Hollywood Stars minor-league baseball team appeared in this film. The team was a Triple-A affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers at the time of this production. Major League players also appeared, including George Metkovich, Jerry Priddy, Gilly Campbell, Willard Ramsdell, and Duke Snider.
Alan Hale from Gilligan's Island is the catcher of the opposing team who boobeled the ball on a very close play. Bebdix is the only person who saw it and call the sliding player safe. This call caused the riot in last half of the movie, but Hale admits at the end he did indeed bobbel the ball.
Three years after this film was released, Tom D'Andrea would co-star again with William Bendix, this time in Bendix's series The Life of Riley (1953), in which he played Riley's neighbor Jim Gillis. Henry Kulky, an uncredited fan in the movie, also was a regular on the TV show.
