February––particularly its third week––is all about romance. Accordingly the Criterion Channel got creative with their monthly programming and, in a few weeks, will debut Interdimensional Romance, a series of films wherein “passion conquers time and space, age and memory, and even death and the afterlife.” For every title you might’ve guessed there’s a wilder companion: Alan Rudolph’s Made In Heaven, Soderbergh’s remake, and Resnais’ Love Unto Death. Mostly I’m excited to revisit Francis Ford Coppola’s Youth Without Youth, a likely essential viewing before Megalopolis.
February also marks Black History Month, and Criterion’s series will include work by Shirley Clarke (also subject of a standalone series), Garrett Bradley, Cheryl Dunye, and Julie Dash, while movies by Sirk, Minnelli, King Vidor, and Lang play in “Gothic Noir.” Greta Gerwig gets an “Adventures in Moviegoing” and can be seen in Mary Bronstein’s Yeast,...

To date, The Flash certainly hasn’t shied away from its comic book roots. Sure, it may be its own beast, but its embracing of the source material, among other things, has allowed it to flourish in a way that not many other superhero shows have been able to.
As you may be aware, the season 4 premiere is actually titled “The Flash Reborn,” which’ll no doubt cause devout readers of the comics to recall Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver’s modern classic, The Flash: Rebirth. And, believe it or not, the producers very nearly titled the premiere just that, but had a very sound reason to pull it back it bit.

In the time since DC kicked off its Rebirth initiative, many compelling mysteries have arisen. Aside from the oversized DC Universe: Rebirth #1 one-shot written by Geoff Johns, many would probably agree with me in saying that another piece of required reading would be that of The Flash Vol. 1: Lightning Strikes Twice. But what may be just as important but possibly overlooked is that of Titans Vol. 1: The Return of Wally West.
Yes, Wally technically returned in the aforementioned one-shot, but it’s here where the ramifications are fully explored as well as the emotion that comes with. You have to admit that when you’ve been cast from the timestream for a number of years, it’s going to take a toll on you, superhero or not. But,...

While their partnership may have gotten off to a slightly rocky start in last week's midseason premiere, it sounds like Barry is finally ready to take Wally under his wing over the course of the next few episodes, which should result in a lot of high-speed fun. As for when we'll get to see the duo in action, it looks like episode twelve, titled "Untouchable," is a good bet as it'll feature a subplot with the Scarlet Speedster helping Kid Flash elevate his game to the next level. Check out the new "Lightning Strikes Twice" poster below: Plus, look who's back on-set: Back on set with the other wife. @dpanabaker Sorry @italiaricci #TheFlash pic.twitter.com/CqV3N8lRPh — Robbie Amell (@RobbieAmell) January 26, 2017 "Dead or Alive" - (8:00-9:00 p.m. Et) (TV-pg, Lv) (HDTV) DC Comics' Gypsy Arrives On Earth-1 - H.R.'s (Tom Cavanagh) past...

Straight out of Vancouver comes Norine Braun, a bluesy artist with a siren’s voice. To say I could listen to Braun sing all day would be an understatement. There’s a kind of raw power to her soulful voice. She even nails melodic bits throughout the album that recall artists like Kd Lang and Stevie Nicks, perhaps with a strong dash of Melissa Etheridge. I really took to this album straight away. Great stuff.
“Lightning Strikes Twice” makes use of Braun’s incredibly sexy vocal ability while also delivering a driving, almost badass track. “Conventus” is a track that has some major Kd Lang vibes coursing through it, which isn’t a bad thing at all. Unless you dislike Kd Lang, in which case, you’re a silly goose. It picks up about two-thirds the way through, becoming a fun, almost beachy, folk-y track. Really schizophrenic, but in a great way.

[Update: A FUNimation rep has confirmed that Freddie Prinze Jr. will be reprising his role as Vega in Paragon Lost.]
Ever want to know more about the tatted-up space Marine James Vega and his life before joining the Normandy crew? On November 13th, the Mass Effect 3 prequel anime hits DVD and Blu-ray from FUNimation from animation studio Production Ig.
The feature pits Vega and his Special Forces team against an onslaught of Collectors looking to snatch up a human colony.
Paragon Lost is based on a script by Henry Gilroy, a regular writer for Cartoon Network's Star Wars: The Clone Wars and among his healthy list of credits, he even got to write one of the early Scarecrow episodes on Batman: The Animated Series. Veteran animator Atsushi Takeuchi who's served in the art and production departments of several anime series and features including Ghost in the Shell and 2007's Appleseed: Ex Machina.
I can't find any official credits for this, but it doesn't seem like Freddie Prinze Jr. is...

During a discussion with Spike TV's Geoff Keighley, Hideo Kojima took the stage at Pax Prime to talk to the audience about the past, present, and future of the Metal Gear franchise, including his own wishes for a Big Boss game, as well as fan-casting the recently-announced Metal Gear movie.
Coming on stage in his magnificently shiny shirt (I'd show you a photo, but I was all the way up in the nosebleed section), Hideo Kojima told the audience through his translator that this was his first Pax. He hadn't gotten a chance to check out the show, but the head of Kojima Productions was looking forward to getting out on the show floor.
When asked about the genesis of the series, Kojima explained that games 25 years ago were more often than not about attacking things and that he wanted to do something different. He remains...
