CBS decided to renew a bundle of shows on Thursday. The network dished out early extension deals to all three NCIS shows, as well as Tracker and Fire Country. A franchise that was notably absent from these renewals, however, was FBI. And fans are starting to worry that the franchise's absence means that they could be leaning toward cancelation.
To be clear, the flagship show, FBI, is safe. CBS already dished out a three season extension to the show in 2024, meaning FBI still has two more seasons on its contract. There was no need to issue an extension. FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted are a different story. Both shows are not renewed through their current seasons. Yet, CBS decided to hold off on bringing them back.

9-1-1 is becoming a major franchise for ABC. The same way Law and Order and One Chicago have done wonders for NBC's weekly lineup, 9-1-1 has done for its network. It's why ABC just ordered a second spinoff set in Nashville. Don't worry, though. There's more exciting news for 9-1-1 fans this week.
Variety confirmed that 9-1-1 will be staging its first ever crossover with an outside show. Instead of teaming up with, say 9-1-1: Lone Star, the first responder drama will cross paths with another Ryan Murphy helmed show, Doctor Odyssey. The crossover will take place on March 20, and see the title doctor solve a case alongside 9-1-1 stalwart Athena Grant (Angela Bassett).

The raving success of Globoplay’s medical drama “Under Pressure” — which ran for five heavily acclaimed seasons between 2017 and 2022 — was bound to see Brazil firmly step into procedurals, and Amazon Prime Video’s “Suture” is proof of just that. The eight-episode series, selected as part of the Berlinale Series Market Selects, follows gifted medical student Ícaro (Humberto Morais) and surgeon Mancini (Claudia Abreu) as the duo is forced to work for a criminal organization as their underground medical support team.
Co-produced by Brazil’s Boutique Filmes and Miami-based production and distribution banner Spiral International, “Suture” aired on Amazon Prime Video at the tail end of 2024. The medical procedure is the latest co-production between Boutique Filmes and Spiral International, who also worked together on “Falco” and “Negociador.”

Back in the 1950s and ’60s, it was common for an actor to be introduced as “star of stage, screen, and television!”, but these days, it can be said only rarely. Certainly, movie actors often alternate between TV and film, but precious few big stars are willing to take that scary leap to the stage. One who has and has been amply awarded in all three media is Colman Domingo, who began his stage career at Joseph Papp‘s New York Shakespeare Festival and moved eventually to Broadway where he has earned two Tony Award nominations, for acting and producing.
Domingo then turned to television, and like any Broadway actor, guest shots on multiple Law and Order episodes followed — a must for any New York actor’s resumé. Luckily, Domingo then landed a successful series gig, with a seven-season stint on Fear the Walking Dead, which then led to HBO’s hit,...

Over the course of his very long career, director Frederick Wiseman has always worked in nonfiction, in the realm of the real, yet his films may best be described as novelistic. Embedding himself in hospitals, schools, theater and dance groups, neighborhoods, and towns across the U.S. and occasionally Europe, he uncovers human drama, pathos, and psychological detail that escape the eye of the ordinary observer.
He began making films almost 60 years ago and has continued at the astonishing pace of just about one documentary a year ever since, his most recent film coming in 2023 with the magnum opus Menus Plaisirs – Les Troisgros (a four-hour-long movie the New York Times hailed as “absorbing start to finish.”).
Fred Wiseman films L-r ‘Aspen,’ ‘Deaf,’ ‘Central Park,’ ‘Basic Training,’ and ‘Ballet’
To recognize this unparalleled body of nonfiction cinema, Film at Lincoln Center is honoring the director with a retrospective titled “Frederick Wiseman: An American Institution.

With so many streamers and shows going on, it's hard to think you might run out of something to watch. But just because we have such a variety, that doesn't mean everything is going to pique your interest. And I definitely don't blame you. I go through stages where the same happens to me!
If you strictly stick to streaming shows, you may not be watching what broadcast has to offer. However since everything is added to the online platforms as well after their debut on TV, that means you can still enjoy broadcast series' through a streamer. And here, we've got 6 NBC shows you should be watching on Peacock right now. Let's get into it!
Happy's Place
There's the staples on NBC like the One Chicago shows and Law and Order franchise. And while those are good, we're here to focus on some other series' you may not have given a shot yet.

The Star Wars community and other fanbases have been mourning Carl Weathers since his passing almost a year ago. One part of what will be missed during the stages of the Mandoverse is his directing work. The late actor directed two episodes of The Mandalorian series which he starred on.
Weathers played the bounty hunter leader Greef Karga, who turned ally to the main character, Din Djarin, throughout the first three seasons. He also directed episodes of the series in the second and third seasons.
The second season episode that the late actor went behind the camera was the fourth episode of the season, "The Siege." He also co-starred in the episode as Karga. Weathers' direction was praised by fans and critics alike.
Laura Purdum of IGN commented on his direction, saying, " Weathers effortlessly evokes the iconography of the films here... None of it is particularly subtle, but it's deployed...

Since its end in 1997, "Married... with Children" has maintained a legacy as one of the strangest and longest-running television shows of its kind. The Fox sitcom was, on its face, a standard multi-camera sitcom about a dysfunctional family and the colorfully zany characters that breezed in and out of their suburban enclosure. At the same time, it bucked contemporary genre conventions, daring to push the boundaries of acceptable behavior for sitcom protagonists while leaning into the surrealist subgenre -- which, relative to the tamer landscape of TV back in the late '80s and '90s, surely must've surprised some audiences.
And yet, as odd and abrasive as the show could be, the series was reliably anchored by a powerhouse cast of comedic actors at the top of their game. This included Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal, and Christina Applegate, all three of whom have been receptive to revive the series...

There is a reason that the Law and Order franchise is keeping Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) apart for the moment. The pair had off-the-charts chemistry when they worked together during the first 12 seasons of Law & Order: Svu, but Stabler was married with five children, so it was unlikely anything would ever happen. However, Law & Order: Svu's Benson and Stabler relationship timeline suggests that the pair had deeper feelings for one another than they were willing to admit.
Stabler returned in 2021, and his wife was murdered almost immediately. While Law & Order: Organized Crime's first season focused on Stabler's quest to get justice after Kathy's (Isabel Gillies) death, her murder also cleared the path for Benson and Stabler to eventually get together. While this initially appeared to be the case, Law & Order: Svu made the mistake of ignoring Benson and Stabler's relationship in recent seasons,...

Elliot Stabler is one of the best characters in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, but as a volatile and aggressive detective, his behavior frequently crosses the line. Christopher Meloni's performance as Stabler paints a picture of a troubled man whose heart is usually in the right place, even though his actions can cause a lot of trouble for himself and the rest of the squad. He has a habit of pushing suspects too far, both physically and mentally. Stabler and Benson's relationship in Svu usually balances him out to some extent, but he's still a loose cannon.
Many of the best episodes of Law and Order: Svu feature Benson and Stabler butting heads as they work on a case together. Benson is the more emotionally mature of the two, and she's often the best at dealing with victims. Stabler tends to be a blunt object, setting...

Although iZombie ended in 2019, the five-season supernatural procedural managed to reinvigorate the familiar cop show setup with its inventive premise. Cop shows make up a substantial portion of TV’s scripted offerings. According to The Hollywood Reporter, around a fifth of 2020’s scripted TV shows were police procedurals, and this figure was atypically low compared to preceding years. This makes it tough for networks to reinvent the police procedural, a genre that has been subverted, rebooted, revisited, and relied upon for decades on end. Appropriately enough, the series iZombie successfully breathed new life into cop shows in 2015.

Spinoffs are often a gamble because, regardless of the popularity of their mother series, they cannot forever depend on the source to work. Furthermore, they also have to pay tribute to their predecessor while carving out a life on their own. In short, to produce a spinoff requires a leap of faith. Fortunately, a lot of successful TV show spinoffs end up making it. And some of these do not simply survive, but they thrive, building their own legacy.
In some cases, a few standout follow-ups gained such immense popularity that they overshadowed the original shows they were based on. By expanding beloved universes or focusing on breakout characters, they find a way to connect with the viewers in a more impactful way. Theres always that strange transition period in horror movies where things can get lost in the shuffle. The 70s and its nihilism broke late in the decade to swerve into masked killers and the slasher genre. That heyday was far shorter than people remember but the late 80s did something similar in transitioning to straight to video smash successes and a crazy number of sequels and adaptations. That well, too, would dry up, and when Wes Craven released Scream in 1996, the landscape would shift to smart slashers and then found footage. The teen slasher era was first with things like Urban Legend, Scream sequels, Disturbing Behavior, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and hell, even Final Destination posits literal death as a slasher villain. These are more along the lines of the top shelf example but one that could qualify for a best horror movie you never saw And...

When Law & Order: Svu picked its new showrunner from Season 24, at least a dozen people were allegedly unhappy. David Graziano has written for shows like Lie to Me and American Gods and served as the showrunner of the Michael Chiklis-led show Coyote. Law and Order: Svu did not hold back during its season 26 fall finale. The episode "Cornered" saw Dominick Carisi (Peter Scanavino) suffer a harrowing ordeal at the hands of would-be robbers, and narrowly escape a hostage situation with his life intact.
The character assured his longtime colleague, Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and his wife, Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish), that he was fine by the end of the episode, but it's clear the character is not in a good headspace. Carisi's compromised state, coupled with Rollins' involvement in the fall finale, has fans wondering whether the latter will return to Law & Order: Svu in a larger capacity when the show returns in January.

Law and Order and Law and Order: Svu have been NBC staples for over two decades. It's difficult to imagine the network without these two shows, even though another spinoff, Organized Crime, was recently demoted to streaming.
Both Law and Order and Svu will be airing its fall finales on Thursday, November 21. There will undoubtedly be unresolved storylines, and cliffhangers guaranteed to drive fans up the wall in the best possible way, but the question on everybody's mind going into a mid-season break is when the shows in question are slated to return.
Law & Order and Svu return on January 16
Well, thankfully, we have the answer. TV Line revealed the winter premiere dates for Law and Order and Law and Order: Svu. Both shows will return to NBC on Thursday, January 16. This means both shows will be off the air for roughly a month and a half.

It was another ripped-from-the-headlines case on Law & Order: Svu.
Law & Order: Svu Season 26 Episode 6 was the police procedural’s take on the Gabby Petito case and revolved around an abusive boyfriend who caused his girlfriend’s brain death.
Our TV Fanatic writers Laura Nowak, Jasmine Blu, and Jack Ori got together to debate whether this story was too predictable, what our favorite scene was, and more.
(NBC/Scott Gries) How long did it take you to figure out that Chris was involved in Ellie’s attack on Law & Order: Svu Season 26 Episode 6?
Laura: Not long at all.
I recognized this case as ripped from the headlines from the Gabby Petito case. After two decades of Law & Order and Law and Order: Svu, I suspected we had seen a similar case already, and we did.
In 2022, Law & Order Season 21 Episode 3 already did something that mirrored this case.

Law & Order: Svu season 26, episode 5 might have set up a new couple to replace Rollins and Carisi. While Carisi and Rollins are still married and raising three children, there are few opportunities for them to have an on-screen storyline because Rollins has only rejoined the Law & Order: Svu season 26 cast of characters on a recurring basis. Thus, most stories about Rollins and Carisi's family life focus exclusively on Carisi, and the couple's romance has been on hold except on rare occasions.
This situation with Rollins and Carisi has been a problem since DIck Wolf Entertainment made the controversial decision to write Rollins out of Law & Order: Svu. Rollins' absence left more than one hole in the canvas, as both Rollins and her relationship with Carisi are popular. However, one scene in the latest episode of Svu suggests that another pair of co-workers is headed toward romance, which would...

On Friday, Oct. 19, Variety partnered with the Santa Fe International Film festival to celebrate its 10 Screenwriters to Watch. All 10 recipients gathered at Santa Fe’s Lensic Performing Arts Center for a lively conversation about their path to screenwriting and the work that earned them their place on Variety’s annual list of the most promising up-and-coming scribes in the entertainment industry.
The panel began with a conversation about the films that first made them want to be screenwriters — and in some cases, exposed them to the idea that writing for film and television was a job they could pursue. Among their responses, “Fancy Dance” co-screenwriter Miciana Alise named John Huston’s “Annie” (“Carol Burnett just takes up the whole screen”), while her partner Erica Tremblay remembered “The Last Emperor” making a lasting impression; Noah Pink (“Eden”) said “Jurassic Park;” Tory Kamen (“Eleanor the Great”) and Nora Garrett (“After the Hunt”) agreed that “Juno,...

David Boreanaz Is Open To A Revival Of Bones
On Bones, David played the character of Seely Booth, a special agent from the FBI. He would always link up with a forensic anthropologist named Dr. Temperance Brennan. Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer has become one of the most wanted Shonen series of the new generation that has taken the world by storm. The series was first released in 2106 and received an anime adaptation, which has become a massive name in the anime industry as well.
A still from Demon Slayer. Credits: Ufotable
The story is set in the Taishō period in Japan, which features great historical accuracy, and next-tier animation quality just added to the popularity of the show. Hence, some members of the Otaku community even called the title the very definition of peak fiction.
However, it looks like Gotouge-Sensei’s magnum opus might not be an original idea, as an influencer shared how the mangaka might have been inspired by Fullmetal Alchemist. Though the statement sounds crazy, once the fans see the uncanny resemblance between the two titles, they can’t unsee it for the rest of eternity.

We’re calling it. There’s no way the audience would ever get sick of Law & Order: Svu‘s Amanda Rollins.
Kelli Giddish said in an interview with TV Insider that having Rollins appear on a recurring basis would help prevent that possibility.
Hopefully, she was joking because the idea of too much Rollins doesn’t compute.

Rollins Is One of Svu’s Most Popular Characters She’s Still Missed Two Years After Her Exit
When news broke that Kelli Giddish was leaving Svu, fans were outraged. Social media was full of posts threatening to boycott the long-running police procedural if Rollins wasn’t reinstated.
Two years later, Rollins has made several guest appearances, and after her last one, there was renewed hope that she would return full-time. However, there was mass disappointment when the plans for season 26 didn’t develop that way.

We finally know how Amanda Rollins is returning to Law and Order: Svu and she's not alone! Could Rollins' new job be setting up a spinoff?
When Kelli Giddish left Law and Order: Svu in late 2022, that appeared to be the end of her Amanda Rollins character. There was buzz that Giddish didn't want to leave, and it was NBC wanting a change, with the actress admitting it wasn't fully her decision. She was sent off with Rollins and Carisi getting married and Rollins accepting a job as a college professor.
Rollins did appear in a season finale crossover with Law and Order: Organized Crime, which revealed she was pregnant with Carisi's child. Season 25 had Rollins making a return. In a later episode she'd quit her college job and missed being a cop, although Benson didn't think she was right to get back into Svu.

Mariska Hargitay’s 25 years on “Law and Order: Svu” has impacted her own psyche.
The actress/producer told Selena Gomez for Interview magazine that bringing her character Olivia Benson to life for more than two decades has taken its toll on her personal life. She has played the character for more than 550 episodes of the “Law and Order” spinoff series, which is the longest-running primetime drama series of all-time.

Maura Tierney is about to join Law and Order and is giving a peek at what to expect from her new boss!
Law and Order fans are used to the revolving door of cast members coming and going over the show's 34-year history. Season 23 opened with Jeffrey Donovan having left as Frank Cosgrove and Reid Scott joining as Detective Vincent Riley. Midway through the season, Sam Waterston ended his long run as iconic D.A. Jack McCoy with Tony Goldwyn replacing him as Nicholas Baxter.
So it was little surprise it was announced in May that Camryn Manheim, who had joined the show in its 2022 revival as Lieutenant Kate Dixon, would be departing the series. There's no word on how Dixon leaves, but the show has already cast her replacement, with Maura Tierney joining the season 24 premiere as Lieutenant Jessica Grady.

Back in 2016, Moma curator Dave Kehr programmed a series of restorations and rediscoveries from the early days of sound at Universal Studios. Across the country in Los Angeles, film historian Leonard Maltin looked at the schedule with envy and longing. “My mouth was watering,” Maltin told IndieWire. “I was so frustrated that I couldn’t just fly to New York and set up a futon in the lobby so I could go to all the films he was screening.”
Luckily, Maltin was able to see some of the films back in Hollywood when Universal archivist Bob O’Neil allowed him to sit in on screenings that had been set up to check answer prints. “I saw dozens of them,” Maltin said. “Some were good, many were unmemorable or downright bad, but every now and then I got lucky and found a real winner.”

From the DNC to the U.S. Open, Tony Goldwyn is definitely having a moment.
The longtime actor/director made a big splash Sunday night in Arthur Ashe stadium, where he reunited with fellow Scandal stars Bellamy Young, Scott Foley, Katie Lowes and Jeff Perry to take in a little tennis with old boss Shonda Rhimes.
His appearance didn’t go unnoticed by U.S. player Frances Tiafoe, who used his interview time after his winning match to give a shout-out to Goldwyn for playing President Fitzgerald Grant on the ABC drama. Tiafoe, who beat Australia’s Alexi Popyrin, is headed to the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
“Yo, I’m a huge fan of you, bro,” said Tiafoe from the court. “Me and my girl used to watch Scandal all the time.”
The camera then pans to Goldwyn, who’s clearly enjoying the moment with Young and Perry.

Law and Order has always based stories based on true-crime tales. However, all the shows take real crimes and criminals and place them in mostly fictional stories. This means they are based on the crimes and criminals, but not in the way a docuseries is. With a new show, that all changes.
Here is what Law and Order is doing now in the realm of true crime.

Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5 has promoted a major recurring character ahead of the show's move from NBC. The police drama, led by Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler, will be making the transition to become a streaming-first series on Peacock. The premiere date for Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5 has yet to be determined, though it has been confirmed that the spinoff will continue to build on an established storyline.
Deadline reports that Dean Norris has been upgraded from a recurring actor to a main cast member for Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5, continuing to play Elliot's older brother Randall Stabler. Norris, known for his role as Hank Schader on Breaking Bad, was introduced as Randall in the previous season of Law & Order and established the siblings were once estranged.

Olivia Benson is going to have a lot on her plate! While we don't know when Law and Order: Organized Crime will make its debut as a Peacock original for its fifth season, news of Mariska Hargitay appearing in episode 2 (the episode Christopher Meloni is writing!) was met with fanfare from viewers as it means Stabler and Benson will finally be reuniting.
Now TVLine reports Hargitay is set to cross over to Law and Order in October. Details on the episode she'll guest star in haven't been released. However, the flagship and Law and Order: Svu are scheduled to premiere their new seasons on Thursday, Oct. 3 so she's appearing within the first five episodes.
Hargitay will be joined by Elizabeth Marvel. The actress is reprising the role of Defense Attorney Rita Calhoun. She was last scene in Law and Order: Svu season 22 episode 6, "The Long Arm of the Witness." The...

Last season was emotional for viewers as he stepped into the role after Sam Waterston's final episode as the beloved Da Jack McCoy. Waterston's legacy on the procedural spans 18 seasons and 400 episodes, he'll surely missed in the upcoming season.

Jennifer Aniston won Best Comedy Actress at the 2002 Emmys for the hit laffer “Friends.” Twenty-two years later, she could well pick up an Emmy bookend by winning Best Drama Actress for her starring role as Alex Levy in the acclaimed Apple TV+ series “The Morning Show.” Her rival nominees are: Anna Sawai (“Shōgun”), Imelda Staunton (“The Crown”), Maya Erskine (“Mr. & Mrs. Smith”), Carrie Coon (“The Gilded Age”), and her “The Morning Show” co-star Reese Witherspoon.
Aniston is currently in third place in our odds chart with both Sawai and Staunton ahead of her. Sawai is hoping to win for the first season of “Shōgun,” and she could, theoretically, get taken along for the ride in a “Shōgun” sweep (we expect “Shōgun” to win Best Drama Series). Meanwhile, Staunton is hoping to prevail for the final season of “The Crown” — perhaps voters will get sentimental and want to bid farewell to the lauded show.

Law and Order is joining the podcast party that broadcast staples have been delving into as of late. Though before you start thinking this is yet another rewatch pod announcement, let me tell you its not. The flagship series isn't being recapped from the beginning or through a nostalgic dive into fan favorite episodes or storylines that impacted how cases are depicted on television. No, the podcast that's dropping on Friday, August 22 is more in line with what 48 Hours: NCIS will offer listeners in October.
Deadline reports that Law & Order: Criminal Justice System will have four 12 episodes seasons which is certainly something to look forward to whether you're a fan of the franchise or are a true crime enthusiast. Universal Television and Wolf Entertainment struck a deal with iHeartPodcasts to launch the pod which will be hosted by Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi.
