According to the book Rod Taylor: An Aussie in Hollywood' (2010) by Stephen Vagg, Taylor only agreed to do the picture on condition that he could rewrite some of the film. An example of this is the picture's beginning where Scobie Malone (Taylor) arrests Jacko (Charles 'Bud' Tingwell).
This picture is known under two titles in English speaking territories: 'Nobody Runs Forever' and 'The High Commissioner'. The film has been released in a number of territories at different times under both titles. Originally, the film was debuted under 'Nobody Runs Forever' when launching in England in September 1968, but the picture was re-titled 'The High Commissioner' when released in the USA in December 1968.
The poster of Deadlier Than the Male (1967) directed by Ralph Thomas can be seen at the background in the sequence where Rod Taylor is attacked by three men in a street.
Australian Rod Taylor was the first actor to play writer Jon Cleary's Scobie Malone character. Another Australian, Jack Thompson, would be the second and final one to do so in Western film & TV in Scobie Malone (1975), based on Cleary's novel 'Helga's Web'.
