And now for the final word on who will win the gold Sunday at the 97th Oscars.

Since Cannes in May I have been reviewing the movies, assessing their awards potential, predicting the Oscar nominations, and now finally here is my best and Final guess as to who and what will emerge triumphant in all 23 categories for the 2025 Academy Awards. So much has been written, so much has been talked about, and actually overall for me it has been a swell year for movies, at least good ones, or at the very least enough good ones to make this lineup of nominees for Oscars a deserving one.

Let me caution these are my predictions, some still shaky, but not necessarily what I might have voted for. In other words, this is not a wish list but rather a reflection of where the long and ever-unwinding road stood as Oscar balloting ended on February 18 at 5 p.

Spanish-Uruguayan co-production “Better Class,” directed by Víctor García León (“Selfie”), who co-wrote with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Borja Cobeaga (“One Too Many”), is now shooting and has been picked up by Spanish sales company the Film Factory. BTeam Pictures will distribute in Spain.

Featuring leading Spanish actors Márián Álvarez, Israel Elejalde, Juan Diego Botto, Natalia Reyes and Pilar Castro, it tells the story of Alicia and Gonzalo, a middle-class couple who face the dilemma of enrolling their son, Fer, in an elite secular school, unlocking opportunities for social mobility but at the cost of their own moral convictions. A new 30-second TV spot for James Gunn’s Superman was released yesterday, showing off some fresh footage from the highly anticipated movie. However, the final shot of the teaser has come under fire. In it, Superman does a barrel roll as he avoids some rocks, with the camera focusing on the character’s face as he flies towards us. Some feel that it looks a little “goofy” and have blamed the lack of facial movement on poor VFX, but Gunn has defended the shot on Threads.

Sault is known for her work with director Meadows, which began back in 2005 with This is England when she was runner.
