The second half of Outlander Season 3 has been a bit of a mixed bag. While it's been thrilling to see the show take on a new location as it took to the open seas, it's been defined by a frantic aimlessness. This show is at its best when its characters are working towards a believable, relatable, and hard-won goal. It's why the first part of Season 3 worked so well. It was all about Jamie and Claire learning to live without the other, and it wasn't easy.

In the season 3 finale of Outlander, titled "Eye of the Storm," John Grey comes to Jamie's rescue, Claire searches for Ian, and Geillis learns about Brianna and plans to travel to the future to fulfill the prophecy.
It's the big finish to an action-packed season. And it starts with Claire heading to Rose Hill in search of Ian. She makes her way to the slave's quarters, quietly calling his name, but fails to discover anything but a dead body -- most likely one of Geillis' virgins. Claire is grabbed by Geillis' number one henchman, Hercules (Apolinhalo Antonio).

Tna veteran James Storm debuted at WWE’s Nxt TV tapings from Full Sail University last night.
The former Tna Heavyweight Champion, who has spent 18 long years in the business, becomes a surprising WWE debutant at the age of 38 and just the latest name to have jumped from Tna’s sinking ship to WWE’s rising promotion. He signed with WWE after at least a week’s worth of talks, being spotted backstage and at ringside at events in recent days.
Like Samoa Joe before him this summer, Storm has been granted the privilege of wrestling under his recognised ring name. He defeated Nxt enhancement talent Danny Burch in a quick squash match using his Eye Of The Storm finisher.
Playing the babyface, Storm orchestrated a clap and cheer with the fans after the match, which you will be able to see on the October 21st Nxt show.

Avalanche Studios' Mad Max game is out in September. Here's the brand new 'Eye of the Storm' trailer...
Now we think about it, Avalanche isn't a bad choice of studios when it comes to interpreting George Miller's gonzo action flick, Mad Max: Fury Road. Avalanche has, after all, made its name by making the hatstand Just Cause games, which regularly have you riding aircraft like surfboards.
With Mad Max, Avalanche has created an open world incarnation of Fury Road, complete with bald-headed War Boys, ramshackle cars and mile after mile of parched desert. Cut to the strains of AC/DC, the new trailer below shows off Mad Max's world of fire and blood.
We'll have to wait and see how its mix of hand-to-hand combat and vehicular mayhem stacks up agains twhat, for us, is the film of the summer. At the very least, the property's in seasoned hands with Avalanche.

Director J.J. Abrams is at it again with his secret sci-fi mystery box film projects. Deadline is reporting that he is making a deal to develop an untitled top secret project for Sony Pictures. Abrams is only set to produce the film through his Bad Robot production company, but he's brought on a director by the name of Chris Alender, who will make his feature film debut with the movie. The director previously made an awesome steampunk style short film called "Eye Of The Storm," which you can watch below.
There's not much information on the project as it has been labeled "Top Secert," but the reports says that it will have a "Cloverfield feel and a contained budget and that it involves aliens." Cloverfield is the film that launched the directing career of Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) and Abrams is hoping to do the...

Exclusive: Sony Pictures is putting the finishing touches on a deal for an untitled top secret project that Jj Abrams will produce through his Bad Robot banner. It’s a science fiction film that will mark the feature directorial debut of Chris Alender, who helmed the short Eye Of The Storm. This was a heated bidding situation — Lionsgate and Stx were the other parties I heard — and Sony production president Michael De Luca got it. Aggressive progress to production language is part of the deal.
It’s the third significant acquisition that De Luca has made on hotly contested material since Sony was hack-attacked. Three days ago, Sony acquired the Jon Spaihts science fiction script Passengers, and right before that Sony bought rights to the NYPD corruption documentary The Seven Five.

Still (im)patiently awaiting Ridley Scott's, Cormac McCarthy penned crime tale "The Counselor" coming later this year? Yeah, so are we. But until then, here's a nice little treat to tide you over -- a one-hour documentary on the career of the filmmaker from the British series "Omnibus." Titled "Eye Of The Storm," the 1992 documentary was made circa "1492: Conquest Of Paradise" and covers Scott's career from his early days at school right up until the present time of the doc. An array of collaborators are brought into for their input with Tony Scott, H.R. Giger, Sigourney Weaver, Michael Douglas, Callie Khouri and more participating. It's pretty decent vintage trip down memory lane, and it's always fascinating to get perspective on a filmmaker's career during different points in their life, so give this one a spin below.

Susan Bee is a painter, editor, and book artist who lives in New York. Bee is represented by Accola Griefen Gallery, New York, where she will have a solo show of new paintings from May 23 to June 29, 2013. Criss Cross: New Paintings will be accompanied by a catalog with an essay by art critic and poet Raphael Rubinstein.
Bradley Rubenstein: Susan, I just saw this piece by Roger Denson in the Huffington Post: "Mira Schor and Susan Bee, the Thelma and Louise of the Feminist Painting and Crit set, pose the biggest threat to male domination of the medium and criticism of painting in that they are critics as wellas painters, and editors to boot, whose joint imprimatur has been pulsing out the feminist-left political art journal M/E/A/N/I/N/G since the mid-1980s." (Huffington Post, May 1, 2012)
I thought that was really great. It ties...

She prowls across the stage like a tiger… the band her tribal heart-beat. The red neon lit stage and tight space en-cages them. As they strike up the opening chords you feel like you’re on the edge of an explosion about to be reeled back in from that dangerous abyss … This is ‘Lois and the Love’ live at The Macbeth in Hoxton.
Kicking in with a Stooges style riff is live opener ‘Take You Back’ – Lois manoeuvres round the stage like a feline erotic queen warming immediately to her task. The track soon develops into Talking Heads during ‘Psycho Killer’ phase making the band so tight musically from the off the audience are hooked from riff one with this track. Showcasing their superb musical hybrid diversity is ‘Real Love’ matching ‘funky energetic ska’ sounds into one original creation. Lois’s stage persona growing into that of a animalistic performance...

News is rolling out of Toronto for this year's festival, with the Galas and the Special Presentations sections announced. As always with Tiff, the sheer number of films can seem overwhelming, but with new films by David Cronenberg (A Dangerous Method, pictured above), Terence Davies (!), Francis Ford Coppola, Wang Xiaoshuai, Marjane Satrapi & Vincent Paronnaud, and William Friedkin added to big names that premiered already this year (including Almodóvar, Von Trier, Nanni Moretti, and Nicolas Winding Refn) it looks like the 2011 iteration will be as packed with must-see cinema as ever before. We'll be updating this listing as new lineups are announced. See Tiff's official website for details.
Galas
Albert Nobbs (Rodrigo Garcia, Ireland) Butter (Jim Field Smith, USA) A Dangerous Method (David Cronenberg, France/Ireland/UK/Germany/Canada) From the Sky Down (Davis Guggenheim, USA) A Happy Event (Rémi Bezançon, France) The Ides of March (George Clooney, USA) The Lady (Luc Besson,...

Back for its third year (see the 2010 edition) and bigger than ever, today kicks off the first in a fifteen-part look at the various cinematic releases hitting the U.S. in 2011. Each 'part' contains brief descriptions and editorial opinion/analysis of varying length covering twenty films. Expect the remaining ones to go up between now and the first major releases in mid-January.
Like all cinematic lists set within a timeframe, there's some overlap. Some films here have already opened worldwide but have yet to hit the U.S., some upcoming films you'd expect to be here aren't because they're either still in development or have already announced 2012 release dates, some were on last year's list but got delayed so have been included again (but with all new analysis).
I confined my list to films that have either set 2011 release dates or had begun/completed production, and only films that have...

Dennis Hopper’s long film career began with the 1955 teen angst classic Rebel Without a Cause with James Dean, and he helped usher in Hollywood’s New Wave as director and star of the counterculture anthem Easy Rider in 1969. He later became a respected character actor, specializing in such off-beat villains as the drug-addicted, obscenity-spouting Frank Black in David Lynch’s Blue Velvet (1986), crazed bomber Howard Payne in the 1994 action-thriller Speed with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, and Deacon in Kevin Costner’s soggy post-apocalyptic saga Waterworld (1995).
Hopper was born in Dodge City, Kansas on May 17, 1936. He moved to San Diego, California with his family in the late 1940s, and began studying at the local Old Globe Theater while attending high school. He soon signed with Warner Brothers and was featured in a small role in 1955’s Rebel Without a Cause. He was later featured as Jordan Benedict III, the...
