Vincent D’Onofrio might be known to Marvel fans as the iconic Kingpin. Veteran soap actor Thom Christopher has died. The One Life to Live alum, who portrayed mob boss Carlo Hesser and his twin Mortimer Bern on the soap, was 84 when he passed. His former television son, Anthony Crivello, who portrayed Johnny, confirmed his death on social media.

Crivello shared the news on Facebook. He wrote, “My dear friend of many years, actor Thom Christopher passed today. He was always a gentleman, always supportive, and he and his wife Judith who proceeded him in death, where [sic] always gracious to me and welcoming. Thom and I worked together on the ABC daytime series One Life to Live in the 1990s…. It was a wonderful time, difficult hours and long days, but joyful each minute. May Thom fly on Wings of Angels to be beside his beloved Judith, and may they enjoy each other’s company once again, beside the ‘Pearly Gates’ of heaven.

While the NBC television drama Law & Order: Criminal Intent allowed him to become a household name for his outstanding performance as Detective Robert Goren, it wasn’t really easy for Vincent D’Onofrio to play the intelligent but imposing detective for nine seasons. Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5 will see the addition of a new mystery character, who has links to main character Elliot Stabler's past. The Law & Order franchise was created by Dick Wolf, who is also responsible for the FBI and Chicago franchises. Organized Crime is the seventh Law & Order show, and the sixth spin-off from the original series. After four seasons on NBC, Law & Order: Organized Crime season 5 will move to Peacock and continue telling Stabler's story.

Deadline reveals that Law & Order: Organized Crime has cast Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as a character with previous connections to Stabler. The Academy Award-nominated star of Scarface and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves will portray Isabella Spezzano in the show, joining the cast led by Christopher Meloni, Danielle Mon Pruitt, and Ainsley Seiger. It isn't clear when Mastrantonio will debut on the show, or how long her role will last for.

Giddish knew what she was signing up for when she was first cast in Svu. She’d already guest-starred on Law & Order Svu as another character four years prior to landing the role of Amanda Rollins. She even appeared in Wolf’s other spin-off Criminal Intent. But guest-starring on the show was much different than being a series-regular.

As detective Rollins, Giddish was consistently exposed to more than a few haunting crimes. Some of which could be hard to shake off when Giddish could relate to them personally.

CBS’ FBI will have a new person in charge as it heads into a massive three-season renewal.

Rick Eid, who has been showrunner on the series since for all six of its seasons to date, will step down at the end of the season. He’ll remain an executive producer of the show, which comes from Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television in association with CBS Studios. A new showrunner will be named later.

Eid is also the showrunner of another Wolf Entertainment series — NBC’s Law & Order — and will remain at the helm as it heads into its 24th season.

“Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent” may be the biggest original TV series premiere Canada has ever had. That means, when that famous “dun-dun” opens the series on Feb. 22 via Citytv, the pressure is on.

It’s notoriously hard to get a show greenlit in Canada. Funding challenges, market size and competition from U.S. acquisitions mean few, if any, Canadian series debut on the Big 3 commercial networks each season. Even public broadcaster CBC, which boasts the highest number of originals on a major network, still relies on acquisitions to fill out its primetime programming grid.

Dexter actor C.S. Lee is joining the Cobra Kai fight, starring as an original Karate Kid franchise character for the TV series’ sixth and final season.

Lee will portray Master Kim Sun-Yung, a character previously seen only in flashbacks, reports our sister site Deadline. In the original Karate Kid film, the character was played by Jun Chong, while later, Don Lee took over the role for Cobra Kai. Master Kim is presumed dead and it’s currently unknown whether the Tang Soo Do pro will appear in the present day timeline or continue appearing in flashbacks.

Citytv has announced the cast and shared a first photo for Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, which is being made in partnership with NBC’s Universal Television and was ordered to series in June.

The Canadian spinoff, comprised of 10 hour-long episodes, will follow a familiar format as an elite squad of detectives investigate “high-profile crime and corruption” in Toronto. Production is now underway with an eye on a Spring 2024 premiere up north.

Former Law & Order spinoff boss Warren Leight gave viewers a new perspective in a Tuesday X post (fka Twitter), stating that it may still be possible for networks to salvage a 13-episode season, but only if the WGA strike’s demands are met soon.

“Today many network dramas would have begun shooting their 4th episode of the fall season,” the former executive producer and showrunner for Svu and Criminal Intent wrote. “If the strike were somehow to end by Labor Day and shooting were to begin in early fall, the networks might be able to salvage a 13 episode season.

Paul Eckstein, co-creator and executive producer of the drama series Godfather of Harlem and an actor who appeared multiple times on Star Trek: Voyager and other shows, has died. He was 59. A spokesperson for MGM+ and ABC Signature told Deadline that he died unexpectedly in his sleep on June 6.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of our brilliant colleague, Paul Eckstein,” MGM+ and ABC Signature said in a statement. “Working on the series was a labor of love for Paul, who based the show in part on his family’s personal history. Paul was passionate, a creative force, known for his kindness, and generosity. He was a mentor and friend to many, and he will be dearly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and his longtime collaborator Chris Brancato.”

Canadian viewers are getting their own version of a Law & Order show. Citytv has ordered a local edition of Law & Order: Criminal Intent, titled Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent. The current iterations of Law & Order, Law & Order: Svu, and Law & Order: Organized Crime have been airing in the country.

The Canadian network has ordered 10 episodes and it is unknown if US viewers will get to see the spin-off. The original Criminal Intent series aired for 10 seasons between runs on NBC and USA Network, and there's been talk recently about reviving the series.

Currently the Law & Order franchise has three programs running: the reboot of the flagship series (that just finished its second season and 22nd overall), Law & Order: Svu (which has been renewed for a 25th season), and Law & Order: Organized Crime (which has been renewed for a fourth season). Still with all that Law & Order in production (and that’s not even to mention the many re-runs on NBCUniversal’s cadre of cable channels), one former star of a Law & Order spinoff thinks there’s room for more.

In New York City’s war on crime, the worst criminal offenders were pursued by the detectives of the Major Case squad — that was, until USA Network pulled the plug on Law & Order: Criminal Intent in 2011.

But now, more than a decade later, original series star Vincent D’Onofrio is lobbying to reprise his role as Detective Robert Goren, alongside Kathryn Erbe’s Detective Alexandra Eames, in a revival of the long-running Law & Order offshoot.

Prince was born in 1958 to singers Mattie Della and John Lewis Nelson. Prince and his sister developed a taste for music at a young age, and their parents encouraged them to pursue the passion.

The star met producer and songwriter Jimmy Jam in 1973 and impressed him with his musical talent and work ethic. Jimmy Jam also loved that Prince could play several musical instruments. In 1975, Prince began his musical career in a band formed by his cousin’s husband.

Though franchise founder Dick Wolf had been angling for Law & Order: Criminal Intent to earn a reprieve by delivering a solid 10th and final season, a resurrection simply won’t be happening, USA Network’s top brass tell TVLine.

Asked if there was any chance for a semi-miraculous save and Season 11 order, given the warm welcome that returning regulars Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe received, USA co-president Jeff Wachtel answered, “No — and this is said with respect for the show, respect for Dick [Wolf], and most significantly with respect to the audience.”
