Jim Hardie, played by Dale Robertson, is send to search for a boy Tim Schaeffer, played by Dan Barton, who left school to search for gold in the Superstition Mountains. Dan Barton is actually two years older than Dale Robertson.

Goofs
This episode confuses the "Lost Adams Diggings" (LAD) with the "Lost Dutchman Mine" (LDM). The LAD legend states the gold is in New Mexico, not Arizona where the LDM is supposedly located. The LDM is rumored to be in the Superstition Mountains where the episode takes place. Jim Hardie and his party start out from Tucson, implying the Superstition Mountains are near that city. The mountains are, in fact, over 90 miles north of Tucson (at least three days ride by horseback). The Superstitions are only about 30 miles from Phoenix, so it would have made more sense had they left Phoenix for the mountains than Tucson.

Apache Gold

Hardie agrees to join a father searching for his son who is seeking a lost gold mine in Arizona's Superstition Mountains. The men must deal with a lack of water and the fact that the map leads him into lands held sacred by the Apaches. Then one by one, they drop like flies- two by an arrow that isn't Apache arrow but dates back to the time the Spaniards headed into the mountains ...

Good episode with plenty of atmosphere and mystery - the fact that the one letting off the arrows was never seen added to mystique. Nice scenery, plenty of tense moments and characters, such as the father, get gold fever. Suddenly finding his son is his second most important thing. Gold can sure change your focus.
