Anne Hathaway is poking some fun at her former co-star Jeremy Strong.

For the 2025 Golden Globes on Sunday, the actor wore a mint green velvet bucket hat and matching suit from Loro Piana which stirred some online reaction.

One notable reaction however was from Strong’s Armageddon Time co-star Hathaway who took to Instagram to joke about Strong’s look while congratulating him on his nomination. Strong was nominated for his role as the lawyer Roy Cohn in Ali Abbasi’s The Apprentice.

In her post, Hathaway shared a photo of herself as Mia Thermopolis in the 2001 film in a scene where she wears a similar looking bucket hat in order to hide her new hair makeover.

Exclusive: Following the success of the Amazon film The Idea of You, Anne Hathaway and director Michael Showalter have found their next big project to team up on. Hathaway is set to star in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming feature Verity, which Showalter is helming. Based on the No. 1 New York Times bestseller by Colleen Hoover, the current script is written by Nick Antosca. Prior drafts were penned by Hillary Seitz, Angela Lamanna, and Will Honley & April Maguire. Sources say the film will be released in theaters.

James Gray has lined up an A-list cast for his next feature Paper Tiger.

Adam Driver, Jeremy Strong and Anne Hathaway are set to star in the film package that is based on an original script from Gray. Vincent Maraval and Kim Fox’s banner Veterans will oversee international sales rights next week at the American Film Market, with CAA Media Finance representing domestic rights.

Leone Film Group is fully financing the movie that Raffaella Leone is producing alongside Rodrigo Teixeira for Rt Features.

Principal photography is set to begin in early 2025 for the crime film that centers on two brothers who get wrapped up in a scheme that is not quite what it seems. James Gray, the director of “Ad Astra,” has revealed his next film, an original screenplay and crime drama called “Paper Tiger.”

Gray’s latest film, his ninth feature, will star Adam Driver and will reunite him with his stars from 2022’s “Armageddon Time,” Jeremy Strong and Anne Hathaway.

“Paper Tiger” is described as a tense and gritty story about two brothers pursuing the American Dream, only to become entangled in a scheme that turns out to be too good to be true. As they try to navigate their way through an ever-more dangerous world of corruption and violence, they find themselves and their family brutally terrorized by the Russian “Mafiya.”

The film is being launched to buyers at next week’s AFM, with CAA Media Finance handling U.S. rights and Vincent Maraval and Kim Fox’s The Veterans handling international sales. The worldwide rights to the film are available.

While it looked like James Gray was going to follow up Armageddon Time with either a John F. Kennedy biopic or the ghost story Ezekiel Moses, one of America’s great filmmakers will be instead shifting gears to a new project.

Watching “Babygirl” at the Venice Film Festival, I thought, “Isabelle Huppert is going to like this.” Here is a provocative movie, directed by Halina Reijn, starring Nicole Kidman as a corporate CEO engaging in kink and sexually submitting herself to a younger intern (Harris Dickinson). Kidman’s Romy cuts a powerful silhouette in the office by day, but by night, she’s on all fours being dominated in increasingly adventurous sexual encounters.

With Huppert as jury president, it was no surprise when Kidman won Best Actress, as Huppert famously stars in the darkly perverse “The Piano Teacher,” a movie Reijn’s script is surely in deep conversation with. In the 2001 Michael Haneke film, Huppert played a stoic music instructor who becomes sexually overpowered by a younger pupil. I went into “Babygirl” expecting the American version of “The Piano Teacher,” though Reijn’s film is more buoyantly sex-positive than sinisterly Freudian.

The 4:30 Movie writer-director Kevin Smith is well aware that filmmakers are in a self-reflective phase, especially after the wake-up call that was the recent global pandemic. Berlin-based sales agency M-Appeal has boarded elevated genre title “Bury Your Dead,” which world premieres at the Sitges Film Festival in the competition section. The director is Brazilian filmmaker Marco Dutra.

Described as a southeastern-set story in the vein of Stand By Me or Mud, with genre elements, Henry’s Ebb follows Henry (Southwick) as he runs away from an abusive home with his imaginary best friend, Ebb (Repeta). The journey tests their friendship, as well as Henry’s inner “need” for Ebb as Ebb’s control and manipulation over Henry intensifies.

Lucas Ford and Joey LePage are serving as the film’s producers, with Ford Films as the production company. Tracy Kilpatrick (The Peanut Butter Falcon) oversaw casting.

Starz has announced the movie and TV titles that will be available on the service in August. Jessica Chastain has been set to receive the 38th American Cinematheque Award, with Oppenheimer producer Charles Roven to claim The Power of Cinema Award in a tribute to be held at The Beverly Hilton on December 6.

MadRiver Pictures has closed a multi-year equity financing and distribution deal with several major international distribution partners which gives it the ability to fully finance films at a budget of $25M-$75M for the global theatrical marketplace.

Under the deal, MadRiver will produce and independently finance 2-3 films per year. The focus will be on tentpole, star-driven films in the action, thriller and adventure genres, which have a global appeal in all media.

Vashon Film Institute has set the date for the third annual Vashon Island Film Festival, which is slated to take place Aug. 8-11. The announcement comes with the launch of two new divisions of the Vashon Film Institute and a new donation arm, which accepts restricted funds to be used solely to fund improvements at the Vashon Theatre.

Seven months after Aziz Ansari’s feature directorial debut Good Fortune shut down indefinitely amid the writers strike, the film is back on track. Ansari has added Keke Palmer to cast, which also includes Ansari, Keanu Reeves, and Seth Rogen.

Ansari also wrote Good Fortune, which is being backed by Lionsgate. Anthony Katagas (Armageddon Time, Amsterdam), Alan Yang (Loot, Master of None) and Ansari will produce. Brady Fujikawa and Jon Humphrey will oversee for the studio.

Benoît Delhomme is the latest cinematographer trying their hand at directing. Having acted as the cinematographer for films such as Free State Of Jones, The Theory Of Everything and Lady Chatterley’s Lover as well commercials and music videos, Delhomme’s directorial debut is a taut thriller about grief and motherhood.

Based on Barbara Abel’s novel Mothers’ Instinct: A Novel of Suspense, the film follows best friends and neighbours, Alice and Céline. After a tragic accident leads to the death of Céline’s son and Céline’s life starts to unravel, their friendship is tested.

Sebastian Stan is set to portray a young Donald Trump in a movie from filmmaker Ali Abbasi.

The Apprentice began principal photography this week and features an ensemble cast that includes Jeremy Strong and Maria Bakalova. The film focuses on Trump as he builds his real estate business in New York City in the 1970s and ’80s, according to media reports.

Abbasi (Holy Spider) is directing from a script by Gabriel Sherman. The latter’s biography of Fox News founder Roger Ailes, The Loudest Voice in the Room, was the basis for Showtime’s 2019 miniseries The Loudest Voice that starred Russell Crowe.

The Apprentice is described as a mentor-protégé narrative that documents the start of an American dynasty and tackles themes including power, corruption and deception.

Exclusive: Here’s one you probably didn’t see coming: Sebastian Stan, the Emmy and Golden Globe nominee known for his work in the MCU and the acclaimed Hulu miniseries Pam & Tommy, has been tapped for the role of a young Donald Trump in The Apprentice, a new film from Cannes prize-winning Iranian filmmaker Ali Abbasi (Holy Spider).

Also aboard the film in major roles are Emmy and Golden Globe winner Jeremy Strong (Succession) and Oscar nominee Maria Bakalova (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3). Production commenced this week.

Billed as an exploration of power and ambition, set in a world of corruption and deceit, The Apprentice will examine Trump’s efforts to build his real estate business in New York in the ’70s and ’80s, also digging into his relationship with infamous attorney Roy Cohn. It’s a mentor-protege story that charts the origins of a major American dynasty.

Anne Hathaway is reflecting on how she was told when she was young that she would only be successful until she hit a certain age.

In an interview with Porter Magazine, the actress opened up about her decades-long career and major fashion moments of the last year, at the hand of stylist Erin Walsh.

“When I started out [in this industry] as a child, I was warned that my career would fall off a cliff at the age of 35, which is something I know a lot of women face,” Hathaway told the publication. “The thing that has evolved during [that time] is that more women are having careers deeper into their lives, which I think is fantastic.”

However, she acknowledged there is still progress to be made.

Updated, 11:34 a.m.: Sony Pictures Classics has firmed up release plans for its drama Freud’s Last Session, starring Anthony Hopkins and Matthew Goode, which charts the relationship between psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud and author C.S. Lewis. Based on the stage play by Mark St. Germain, who wrote the script, the film opens in theaters in New York and L.A. December 22, with an expansion to follow in January.

The move positions the pic to open opposite A24’s wrestling drama The Iron Claw, Searchlight’s romantic drama All of Us Strangers, MGM’s buzzy festival title American Fiction, and Uni and Illumination’s original animated pic Migration.

Well, looks like another invite got lost in the mail! Jessica Chastain and Jeremy Strong had a late-night dance party in a video shared to Instagram on Sept. 23. In the clip, which offered a glimpse into their longtime friendship, the two actors wore sunglasses and danced around their hotel room as Madonna's "Hung Up" played in the background. It seems strange that an actor of Anthony Hopkins’ prestige and acclaim would need a comeback so late in his career but for a few years, the Oscar-winner was stuck in a cycle of thankless sequel paycheques and one-word thrillers where the “and” credit was starting to lose its lustre (Collide! Solace! Misconduct! Blackway!). Within the space of a year he was then Oscar nominated for The Two Popes and won for The Father (his first Academy attention since 1998) and while, it didn’t exactly curb his predilection for B-movies completely, it did edge him back toward substance, with a subtle yet scene-devouring turn in James Gray’s Armageddon Time and now, another knockout performance in second world war drama One Life.

Armageddon Time (James Gray)

Armageddon Time is the sort of film usually invoked as a “portrait of the nation” or “state of the union address,” something taking the temperature of a country—most likely the United States—at a particular time in history. But it’s also a work that makes self-consciousness a virtue: its wonderful writer-director, James Gray, is informed up to his eyes about the virtues and pitfalls of films like these, and here makes something so idiosyncratically his own but that audiences and critics might still mislabel with one of those aforementioned ideas. – David K. Exclusive: Two-time Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins has signed with UTA.

Hopkins had spent the 2010s at agency before briefly leaving to try something different but after just a year he is returning to UTA for representation.

Hopkins had a busy winter reuniting with Florian Zeller on The Son which also starred Hugh Jackman and Laura Dern. He also earned strong reviews in the Focus Features drama Armageddon Time starring Anne Hathaway and Jeremy Strong and directed by James Gray. In 2021, he took home his second Oscar for best Actor in Zeller’s The Father.

Hopkins’ expansive body of work spans more than 60 years and includes such films as Silence of the Lambs which won him his first Oscar for playing the iconic Hannibal Lecter, Nixon, Amistad, Remains of the Day, All The King’s Men, Thor and The Two Popes.

He continues to be represented by attorney Mitch Smelkinson. He was previously repped by CAA.

If you’re wondering what’s new on Amazon Prime Video in June, the answer is a lot. The streamer has a solid slate of movies heading into summer 2023. Screen International has revealed its critics for the jury grid that will run throughout the 2023 Cannes Film Festival (May 16-27).

Joining Screen’s reviewing team will be critics from 11 international outlets to give their verdict on the 21 films in Competition this year for the Palme d’Or.

The results will be published in Screen’s Cannes daily magazines and for the first time the grid will also be updated live on screendaily.com.

Well-intentioned films about marginalized people face the pitfall of reducing characters’ lives to their experience of persecution. Black characters in Hollywood’s anti-racist parables tend to stand in for a monolithic Black experience, while gay characters have often been defined solely by their sexuality. Emanuele Crialese’s autobiographical L’Immensita, a drama about a transgender preteen, Adri (Luana Giuliani), in early-’70s Italy, skirts this trap by capturing the textures and tensions of a life that’s not defined solely by anti-trans oppression.

As the film depicts with a certain resigned whimsy, Adri not only copes with routine teenage angst, but is also caught within a web of intersecting inequities, including domestic abuse, sexual harassment, and class prejudice. By turns wry and tragic, but never glib or mawkish, this is a visually rich and evocative drama about navigating the often treacherous path to adulthood.

Succession star Jeremy Strong will lead a planned revival of Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People on Broadway in early 2024.

The 16-week limited engagement will feature a new book by Amy Herzog, who adapted Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, which is currently running on Broadway. Sam Gold, director of Fun Home and A Doll’s House, Part 2, will helm the show.

The Broadway theater and exact dates for the revival have not yet been announced.

Strong, who is an Emmy and Golden Globe winner for his role as Kendall Roy on Succession, began his career off-Broadway and previously appeared on Broadway in the 2008 revival of A Man For All Seasons, starring Frank Langella.

Having explored the darker side of corporate amorality and greed in “Succession,” Jeremy Strong will delve into a more small town version of corruption. The Emmy winner is set to star in a new Broadway production of “An Enemy of the People,” Henrik Ibsen’s classic story of a medical officer whose scientific findings leave him pushing to close the spa that is his community’s main source of economic life. Well, at least that’s the story Ibsen spun. This time Amy Herzog, who recently brought a paired down version of Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House” to Broadway, is adapting the story, so it could be quite different. Sam Gold, who has impressed and alternately alienated critics with his radical re-imaginings of “The Glass Menagerie” and “King Lear,” will direct. The production will premiere on Broadway in early 2024 at a theater to be announced.

Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen have been snatched up to star in the Aziz Ansari feature comedy ‘Good Fortune.’

Ansari will write and direct the feature, in which he will star with Rogen and Reeves. Lionsgate is behind the comedy, which will begin filming next month in Los Angeles, with plot details being kept under wraps.

Aziz Ansari is heading back to the director's chair to make his first feature film ... again! In case you forgot, Ansari was set to make his directorial debut with the film "Being Mortal," which was shut down following sexual harassment allegations lodged against the film's star, Bill Murray. It seemed as if the film-directing career of Ansari, who was also accused of sexual misconduct in 2018, was over before it even began. Then again, this is Hollywood, baby! Of course, Aziz Ansari, a seven-time Emmy nominee and two-time winner, is still getting the opportunity to make a high-profile comedy film with a star-studded cast!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ansari is making his actual feature directorial debut with the film "Good Fortune." Not to be confused with Fortune Feimster's hilarious stand-up special of the same name, not much is known about "Good Fortune" outside of the fact Ansari is starring alongside Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves.
